That's not a safety feature, it's a design fault. The cable lengths should be trimmed so that if the cable is pulled there is equal strain on all of the cables. However most people don't bother, which means it is the earth which will take the strain. Failure to wire plugs properly is the reason why new equipment is now fitted with plugs as standard.
It was designed as a safety feature. A few weeks ago I was wondering why UK plugs are the design they are and looked it up, that's how I know.
Internal wiring. Owing to the channel design (not shown), there is more slack in the neutral wire than the line, ensuring that if the lead is forcibly removed, the line wire will disconnect first.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BS_1363#Design The strain should be taken up by the cable grip where the cable enters the plug, not the wires.

Sticking something into the Earth socket of a UK socket isn't going to do any harm. And the Live and Neutral have little covers in them that prevent access unless something is plugged into the Earth socket which has a little doobry that uncovers the them. The whole UK plug and socket system is designed around safety. Like the minimum distance between the edge of the plug and the pins so that you don't accidentally touch the pins while plugging/unplugging it. And how some of the length of the Live and Neutral pins is wrapped in plastic for the same reason. Even the placement of the pins in the plug, the Live wire is the shortest so that if the cable is pulled out of the plug while it's plugged in the Live is the first to be disconnected and the Earth, being the longest, is the last.

I've only ever tried teaching once, for free as a favour for a friend. I don't know if it was him or his daughter that wanted the daughter to learn to play Guitar. My aim was just to get her started with the basics. Every week she would turn up at the right time, but she wouldn't listen, spent the whole time yawning and coughing (without putting her hand over her mouth so I got constantly covered in saliva). And every week I would send her away with a sheet of exercises that she would completely ignore. She just couldn't be bothered and I tried everything I could to get her into it. In the end I just told her parents that I wasn't cut out for teaching. They took her to a proper Guitar teacher, but that didn't last long either. I haven't tried teaching since.

Did he get hit by a lorry or did he hit a lorry?
Chew your tongue ??? Sounds horribly painful! I'm just trying to imagine a line up of gurning bassists
Yup. I don't know why I do it but I've been doing it at least since I was about 6. The holding my breath thing is not so much about concentration but when I do physical things. The tattooist that did my chest remarked at how long I can hold my breath for, especially as I'm such an unfit fatty.
-
I have the terrible habit of holding my breath when I'm concentrating. I didn't even realise until bandmates pointed it out. Though it's fairly obvious when your head has gone purple after a long technical piece. Sometimes I chew my tongue too, which used to get me into trouble at school where chewing gum was banned.

Go all out and add a motor like those electric Golf trolleys!

Isn't part of the difference in weight down to the 5" driver in the 4.5? I imagine it weighs quite a bit it's self. If you did decide to go for a more dispersal friendly configuration, you could have a wooden frame and cloth grille made, that would be significantly lighter than the current metal grill. Are there any plywoods that are made up of half low density wood and half high density wood? So that you could have the cab made with the high density on the inside. I don't know if that would help any. Also, what would happen if you were to treat the inside of the cab with something like Plasticote, or some other thick and hard paint? Or even a sheet of plastic or thin sheet of aluminium? I know aluminium wouldn't help with the weight, but I'm curious.

We used to have a Cairn Terrier, called Lady, who would sit with her head in the woofer of my stereo whenever I listened to music. We had another Dog (half Yorkie, half Jack, looked like an Australian Terrier, called Bronson) who would "sing-a-long" when I played the Penny Whistle.
Heaven forbid he ever gets his hands on a Status.
Do I say it's Mahogany or Maple? Mahogany or Maple...Mahogany or Maple...Mahogany or Maple...head 'splodes!

Nice one. I'd love to get my hands on one of those. When I've had to take too many of my pain meds I get the urge to polish metal things and can sit for hours just rubbing away... I've not tried T-Cut. I would have used Silvo on that.

The door looks good as it is. To even it out you'd have to add a further 2 holes. At least as it is both windows are functional.

I'd be tempted to suggest the jack socket. It can cause alsorts of problems if it's not contacting enough or contacting in the wrong place. It also gets physically moved, which could explain the way it deteriorates. I had a similar problem with a pedal when the tip of the jack socket was making an absolutely minute amount of contact on the wrong part of the jack plug. I know I shouldn't really be making these kinds of statements without at least seeing a photo, but it is something really simple to check for yourself, so can't hurt.

I think people are finally getting over the "You're not a proper Bass player if you play with a pick!" thing, mainly because it's a moronic point of view and demonstrably wrong.
-
Oh goody, if they do this then I might be able to get one of the old ones a bit cheaper! I love the look of the old/current one and I don't have to worry about floor space.

'Coz it's funny. Well, it is to start with, but then it gets a bit frustrating, and then it gets funny again.

Just remembered something from a few months ago. I'd gone into a Guitar shop with my wife and had a look around. I mentioned to my wife that there was only one Bass in the whole shop, and, being quiet because there was only my wife, the shopkeeper and me in there, the shopkeeper overheard me and said "I thought so, you look like a Bassist. When you walked in I thought "Bassist".". I was actually quite pleased, though I suppose it could be taken another way.
-
The first time I felt like a proper Bassist was one weekend when I'd gone along to the local Youth Club, which was closed but had bands practising there, I'd gone along to smear my snotty nose against the window watching the bands play. One of the bands I had seen play a sold out club a few weeks before. This day they were Bassistless and I got talking to them and they asked me to go and get my gear, so I did and got myself a place in my first proper band! All of a sudden I was on the other side of the glass and it was ace.

Dammit! Alternate tunings are a pain in my butt.
Its funny to me how some are talking about hate for altered tunings. Its just a tuning. It's not like they've pissed in your face or slept with your girlfriend.
That's what you know! If that open G tuning shows it's face around here again it'll be leaving on a stretcher! -
Seen this one done. Possibly because I used to work on trucks think it's excellent
That would certainly appeal to me. I have a bit of a collection of stuff with that design on it, including a tattoo.

When I was a kid I was given a pair of 1x12s, each in it's own ported cab, and each one was huge being about 36x18x18 inches. Anyway, I installed a 12v bulb into each of them so that the ports glowed when playing Bass through them. It didn't make any difference to the sound and nothing died. I didn't really know what I was doing, I just liked pretty lights and messing about with electronics.

I have two main Basses. One is a 4 string tuned half a step down and the second is a 5 string tuned to standard. This set-up currently covers most of what I need and is fairly versatile. I think if it were to be something I would use a lot I could fit a detuner to the 5 string on the E string for drop D tunings and maybe one on the B string to drop to C. I'd get masses of versatility out of just the two Basses then. -
If you tip a 4x10 45 degrees the speakers will be even further apart horizontally
I was imagining that the two that would be beside each other would be further away from each other, as you say, so would that mean you get slightly more dispersion before they start to interfere with each other, and would it be enough of a difference to be noticed? But, more importantly, how much more freedom do the top and bottom speakers get, from interference, now that they aren't directly next to another speaker? I have no idea about any of this kind of stuff and I don't pretend to. It was just a thought that popped into my head that I thought would be fun to explore. If it turns out to be a crap idea then so be it.

I wish I was in a position to try the diamond configuration idea. Unfortunately there's a wall about 7 feet infront of my speakers, so I don't think it's going to matter much to me, I don't get to take them out of the house. Someone should try it and let us know, it could be a cheap way to make a slight improvement.
