Expensive Cables - Are They Worth It?
KingBollock replied to flyfisher's topic in General Discussion
I posted this stuff in the Bad Jokes thread earlier. http://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-K2-terminated-speaker-cable/dp/B000J36XR2 (The comments are ace!) -
I play mostly Rock and Metal and love my flats. Give 'em a go I say! Oh, I use Chromes by the way. I've never actually tried any other flats. It took me over 20 years to get around to trying flats and I wish I had done it sooner. Try them and if you don't like them at least you'll know.
Yep! One of these bad boys.
Blimey, that is old fashioned, it puts mine to shame! Mine is like the one in the pic I posted.

I already had a Black Metal setting dialled into my Boss GX-700 I called NastyB*stard. I have now changed it to ValnØt!
My old guitarist had a 4 channel amp, one of which was set to 'Valnut':- maximum treble, maximum gain, bass and mid on zero. I even did him a label for it on my Dymo label maker.
The proper old fashioned punch type? Nice to know I'm not the only one that still uses one! I used it today infact, to put a label on the stereo in the bedroom with the frequency of a new radio station that my wife has found. My Laney Linebacker is labelled with it too after my wife wiped all the printed labels off it with nail polish remover.

Why does he think that only people who play Heavy Metal use Whammy bars? And that to play anything other than Heavy Metal on a Guitar that has one, it has to be disabled?
-
It's easy to think that he's just naive, but he's been doing this for a while, so he's either to lazy to learn what he's doing properly and to correctly identify components and materials, or he's dishonest and taking advantage of people. If it's the former then perhaps he should read this thread and set about learning properly, to better serve his customers.
Eek! Neither am I. Just unfashionable underpants... Maybe we should talk about bass strings, or something...
Good idea! So... what gauge G string do you prefer? -
Corduroy trousers.
I wore Corduroy Jeans up until only a few years ago. I'd still wear them if I could remember where I got them from to replace my knackered ones. They're far more comfortable than normal Jeans and, being black, you couldn't tell they were Corduroy until you got close enough to touch them. -

My mate and I once set fire to a brook using Turps. -
Music to me is a hobby. I have other hobbies and I have to pay to do them and I quite happily pay because they're fun, that's why I do them. My wife loves card making. She pays a fortune in equipment and materials and stuff, then she puts the cards together and gives them away for free, because she enjoys it. There are plenty of people making a fortune out of her doing her hobby, designers, manufacturers and suppliers, it's their job. If my wife worked in a card making factory, as a designer or a printer, she'd expect to be paid because it would be her job. Making money at your hobby is great if you can, don't get me wrong. How would you feel if all bands had to be paid but minimum wage came into it? Would you play, as a professional, for £6 (or whatever minimum wage is) an hour? And don't some bands pay to play? They must feel that they get something out of it, even if it's only fun or experience.

I wonder if his Eric Clapton wood blocks came from left-overs from that sh*tty table he built from left-overs from cladding the bottom of his bathroom wall?

I agree with everyone else, I wouldn't do it to that Bass. However, if I really wanted to do what you want to do on a different Bass, going for versatility, I'd be more tempted to go with some kind of Humbucker that I could coil tap to get a Jazz sound if I wanted it. I feel that would be even more versatile. I have a P/J Bass and I find they mix quite well. I even changed the Volume knob for the Jazz pickup to a Blend knob. Mostly for the sake of fiddling with it, but it works for me.

Best kept in a dark room until it can be burnt!

It says "1st & only made" yet if you look in the last picture there is another one, but in a different shade of puke, called the Waterskipper. Don't look too closely though, there are far worse one in there than the Raptor. Though, having said that, there are some that I quite like: The Goblin DT, the Scorpion and maybe the Medevil too. I did wonder if they were based on the shapes of US States. I would love to know how exactly they are designed. I have a feeling that it'll involve Apes and Etch-a-Sketches. -
I don't understand how it's playable at all. The pickup is effectively laying on the fretboard, as far as I can see, so just fingering any higher than the 3rd fret would bottom out on the pickup surely? He also says it can be bowed, but it's totally flat across the saddle, wouldn't it have to be arched to allow the middle strings to be bowed? I came across this problem recently when I tried a Violin bow, for a bit of fun, on one of my Basses. And the wording of the ad suggests, he calls it a Truss Plate, that that metal plate you can see in pic 2 goes all the way along the neck, that's going to be really uncomfortable isn't it? And, to be frank, his "Professional" Airbrushing is sh*t. I have absolutely nothing against people having a bit of fun experimenting and building things. But I'm not so keen when they try to sell their failures on to unsuspecting people with Bullsh*t. Giving it a high starting price, despite saying there's no reserve, to make it seem exclusive, when it's barely worth the price of a secondhand jack socket and tuners, is just wrong. Edit to add: Also, his negative feedback is interesting, he likes to call people 'DOLT's. And his interpretation of Ebay's rules is rather suspect too.

Is playing rock music good for your hair?
KingBollock replied to Steve G's topic in General Discussion
Technically you still haven't But I don't do hats (coz they don't bloody fit), baseball style ones don't do up, cowboy style ones look wrong on me. I have a sun hat but I kind of feel like the Pope in it Usually wear a buff if the sun gets too much for my bare scalp
I wear a buff when I'm cycling. Prior to the leather hat all I had to keep the sun out of my eyes was one of these: Still wear it when fishing. -
oooooo..... leather Stetson.... nice
It's not actually a Stetson. It looks more Australian in design, but it was the biggest leather hat I could find. Ignore the ugly fat bloke under it. -
Could always go and adopt an empty IRC channel. There are plenty around these days.

KingBollock replied to Steve G's topic in General Discussion
I used to shave my head completely, with a razor. Which was tedious. I talked to a hair dresser once, saying that I wished I would just go bald so I didn't have to keep shaving it, and she said I probably would never go bald, something to do with my kind of hair, apparently. So I stopped shaving it. That was in the middle of 1999, I had it cut for the first time since then a few weeks ago, just a few split ends trimmed off, that's all. I always thought that Bruce Dickinson and James Hetfield suffered from Samson Syndrome, where they cut their hair and their voices turned to crap. I'm sure there are others too. (It's not really true by the way, it just happened to coincide with me going off their bands) And the dude with the size 8 head... bloody hell, I've never met anyone with a bigger noggin than mine! I'm 7 3/4. I finally had to make myself a hat stretcher to get a leather Stetson to fit me. -
That's fantastic! I want an amp with Boom,Grrrr and Sizzz. The best explination I've heard.
Ohhh, there's an idea. My wife once decided to be nice and clean my Laney Linebacker for me. She thought Nail Polish Remover would be a good idea... Once she'd removed about a third of the ink from the front she came to tell me what she'd done. I got her to remove the rest and replaced all the lettering using an old fashioned Dymo labeller. I think it looks ace, but I hadn't thought of changing the wording, until now...
