I have 4 but I only really consider that I have 2, as the other two are cheapos and would actually take a bit of work to get them working properly (because I have used parts from my Westfield, which had been working brilliantly, to repair one of my main two), they aren't even in my music room anymore. Of my main two I have one four string, which is tuned half a step down, and one 5 string tuned to standard. This covers just about everything I wish to play, as long as it doesn't need drop D chugging.

I do think to myself that if I ever get into a band again then I shall practice properly, but until then... I tend to pick my Bass up just to noodle until I play something that sounds familiar. Then I wrack my brains trying to remember what it is, then, if I can remember, I will work the rest of it out. I do learn sets that have sort of grown and changed with my moods. My current one has stuff from Willie Nelson, Simon & Garfunkel to Cream, The White Stripes, the Arctic Monkeys to Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, Obituary and The Vision Bleak. In other words, completely useless. Today was mostly noodling, some really simple Country stuff from a book and some Iron Maiden.

I know it's not a Bass effects unit but I don't know where else to ask. I have a Behringer V-Amp, which I bought for the effects, but I use a Zoom GFX-707 as a tuner, it's the most versatile one I have, the V-Amp doesn't like my low B string at all, and it's not keen on half the others. While messing around with the Zoom I found a couple of effects that really work well with my Bass and set-up, the Flanger is lovely, but the sound I would like to create separately is the vhalen patch. It's the only distortion effect I've ever really been able to get on with on Bass, but I don't know how to make it on its own. And, unfortunately, half the buttons on my Zoom don't work so I can't look up the settings using the edit function. So, on the off chance that anyone owns one of these, and knows what the hell I'm talking about, can anyone tell me what I'd need to make that sound without the Zoom, because, like I say, half the buttons on the Zoom don't work anymore and I think it's on its way out. Unfortunately it doesn't say in the manual. Thanks.

One tip is to make a detailed sketch of what wires go to where. Even take photos if you can. If you have that information then as long as you don't destroy anything, then anything you do should be easily reversible. +1 for the leaded solder. I can't stand the lead free stuff, except for mending jewellery.

It looks like they're saying "We don't actually have any at the moment and it would be extremely inconvenient if you bought one right now. But... If you're prepared to pay a grand for it then I'm sure we can manage something...". The other day Johnston said something about it being cheaper for businesses to increase the price to stop people buying them than to take the listing down and re-list it later, or something.

Dagnamit! If it lasted just 9 days longer I might have been able to convince 'er to let me get some strings (birthday coming up, though, technically, the Warlock was for my birthday) but they're £47. Still, should be able to get the straplocks and picks that I'm after.

Thank you for your very kind offer but I've actually found it now. I saw your post and started re-thinking about what could have happened to it. Then I remembered that I was using a different PC when I last used the CD, and, after rummaging around in the depths of the spare room, I found that old PC, plugged it in long enough to eject the CD tray and lo and behold there it was in all it's circular glory. Thank you, though, I am very grateful for you offer. People like you are the reason so many people love BassChat and call it home. EDIT: Got a bit gushy there because I'd mis-read your post and thought you'd offered to post it to me, but still, I'm chuffed anyway.

I didn't know where to bloomin' well put this and this seemed as good a place as any... I have the Lost Art Of Country Bass book by Keith Rosier and reading about peoples practice routines on here made me think of getting it out again. Unfortunately I appear to have lost the CD for it, which is rather unlike me, but I have a feeling it may have gone missing when we last moved house. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to download the CD for free? I was really enjoying using the book and CD but, like I say, moving house got in the way and I lost track. Thanks

Now I really want to crack my Bodhran out again, but even more, my Tin Whistles. I inherited a new Clark Tin Whistle in C recently, which replaces the one I lost. I got a couple of Recorders too but I never learned to play Recorder, it's tempting now though.

I had a Vox Foundation 2x18 when I was a kid. I wish I still had it. I can't remember what it sounded like, and I'd probably refit it with a 15" and a couple of 10s, or something, but it looked lovely. I don't think mine would be different enough to warrant a second amp, I would merely select a different patch. But then the amp I practice with in my home has a 350w amp (with it's current speaker configuration, it can go up to 500w) and a 4x10 and a 1x15, and an effects unit/amp/speaker modeller. So basically a live rig, even though I don't play live... I have the amp's preamp set the same pretty much all the time and use the effects unit/modeller to change the way it sounds for different styles or situations. It works for me.

I voted for 16khz but then I actually went through them all and realised that after 16khz there's a definite drop but the only one that I can't hear at all is 22khz. Not bad for a 36 year old then.
