It was one of the reviews I studied when deciding on the 5 string NT last year. It didn't happen then and I'm kind of glad, I like the 5 string I've got now and I think I prefer that the Warlock be a 4 string because I shall keep it tuned half a step down instead of standard as with my 5 string. I find a standard tuned 5 string and a 4 string dropped half a step down, to be the most versatile set-up for me and the stuff I like to play.

[/quote] And one came up today for £250. Not a good time to do it, this being the beginning of a 5 week month, pay wise, but I couldn't not. It said that it's an NJ but I'm fairly sure it's an NT. We'll have to see, when it comes.

To be honest it's tinkering for the sake of tinkering, there's no real reason for me to do it, especially as the current CTS Premium volume pot in there is only a couple of months old. I know I don't want a rotary switch and the push/push pot would be perfect, but they're quite expensive. What I shall probably do is wait and see if I come across a cheap push/push pot, now that I know for sure they exist.
  5. Thanks guys. I'm thinking that a Push/Pull pot may well be the way to go, I get a killswitch but still retain control of the volume. I know how to install them because I used them to tap the coils in my Dean, which is why I can't believe I hadn't thought of them myself. The Push/Push pot does fit my brief better but they're bloomin' expensive.
  6. I can't seem to stop messing about with my Westfield and I've just seen a thread where someone mentioned a Bass with no controls at all. Now, I don't like the idea of no control but I thought about it and I don't use my volume control, so I would like to replace it with a killswitch. I've had a bit of a look but can't see what I'm looking for. I'd like a push switch with a shaft I could fit my current volume control knob to, so, ideally, it would be push-to-make push-to-break. Is there anything like that out there?

[/quote] When I played in bands I was never asked to play in anything other than standard. I don't think I even knew you [i]could [/i]play in alternative tunings for the first 10 years of playing. This caused some trouble when it came to learning stuff from records, especially as it was all metal, I just gave up trying to learn from the record. I had a Guns & Roses Bass Tab book and didn't know they tuned half a step down, so none of it worked when I tried to play along to the songs, very frustrating.

  9. I can recommend the 802. I looked at the 1002 and actually preferred the specs of the 802 because though the 1002 has 2 more inputs, the 802 has more channels with EQ, if that matters to you at all.   13. Nothing wrong with Cradle of Filth! Cruelty and the Beast and Thornography are two of my all time favourite albums. I know they're not Death/Black Metal, but if you like some meat in your music, Sabaton have plenty. And lyrically brilliant and moving, even though it's mostly about war.
  14. I love my V-amp Pro, it's a cracking piece of kit for the money, or even twice the price. I don't know if I should mention it on here but... There's a huge thread on TalkBass about the Bass V-amp Pro. It seems quite popular to team it up with Crown power amps, but I know nothing about them, mine is on my Peavey T-Max effects loop (I bought the V-Amp just as a cheap way to experiment with effects but it has proven useful in many different ways, especially if you use the midi software). http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/behringer-bass-v-amp-pro-part-ii-get-back-jack-do-again-791182/ That's actually the second thread, there was a previous one that got too big and they had to start again. [/quote] One of the problems I have is that I want to play with other people, I want to write original music, but I don't particularly want to play on stage. I don't suppose I'd mind at some point, once comfortable with the people I'm playing with, but I wouldn't want to join a band and have to immediately start working on/learning a live set. I just want to have a bit of fun.
  16. When we moved here, about 4 years ago, I popped into the local Guitar shop. It's not much of a shop, it's more there as a teaching studio, with very little in the way of actual stock, he actually recommended a different shop. Anyhoo, we got talking and he invited me to a jam they have at the shop every Friday night. During the conversation I had mentioned that I was going to have another crack at the Violin (I took to it quite well when I had skinny fingers, but now it's a lost cause) and also mentioned that I tinker with a few other instruments. The only one I have any confidence in at all is the Bass, though, which is what I started on and enjoy the most. But... He said the words :"You're obviously a musician...". I was about to explain myself and the fact that I know no theory and wouldn't call myself a "Musician", when someone came in for his appointed lesson, so I buggered off. The musician accusation rather scared me off and I haven't been back since. However, after reading this thread, I think I might pop back in again and see how things go. You never know.

  18. If you take an acoustic Guitar and play the right notes at once you get a chord, which you recognize as one sound, which is made up from the different vibrations of the different strings. A speaker just takes all of the sounds fed into it, as electric pulses, and creates that one sound, or chord, in a very small instance of time.

[/quote] Yeah, I'm normally like that, but I was lucky enough to already be working in a Guitar shop staffed with brutally honest and very talented musicians. And I was only 14. EDIT: There is an irony to this. The first proper band I joined, when I was 14, everyone else was 18 and 19, and for the next few years I was quite sought-after and never without a band. But then family things got in the way, I skipped town and have never been able to get into a music scene since. I've been living in Wales now for 4 years and don't know a single musician and I don't have the confidence to go looking for any.

[/quote] I too have the same Bass and have just checked, you are absolutely right, the "extra" hole is the original and where the tone pot is now is new. I wonder if, maybe, someone has fitted a pre-amp at some point and then converted it back?
  22. What is the actual, physical difference between a cheap and expensive pick-up, that are the same type and impedance? And how do the various materials effects the sound? I'm curious as I'd quite like to have a crack at making my own one day. Is it impedance they're measured by? Or is it inductance? I can't remember.

Even something as simple as a block of plastic or wood, nothing heavy, thick enough to take up the space between the back of the pots to the inside of the cover, taped or glued to the inside of the cover, would probably make a difference. Though it might be a good idea to use thicker and/or longer screws to fit the cover plate in place. If we can come up with these ideas in an evening, why can't Warwick? Especially as their stuff ain't cheap.
