1. I've only got cheapo Guitars. I shan't bother with pics of my Encore Acoustic or my old Spanish Guitar. My first Guitar was a Cort, Headless Flying V. It started off Trans Red with a really nice wood grain, but I didn't like the colour. It's been Green, Purple and Silver since I've had it. It is now Signal (Banana) Yellow... My other isn't technically mine. QueenBollock decided she wanted to learn to play Guitar. I was soooo close to convincing her to get a hardtail BC Rich Warlock, but, at the very last minute, she changed her mind and went for this....thing... Dean Cadillac I HATE blue, but, after the mess I made of the other one, and the fact that I bought this new, not second-hand, I've not dared touch it. Except to change the knobs and add push/pull pots to split the coils. It plays and sounds lovely though, just wish it wasn't so ugly. She's only ever picked it up twice, we've had it for over 10 years.
2. I take it you're using the normal Stubby and not the Big Stubby. I use those, they're great. www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/8894-jim_dunlop_big_stubby_guitar_picks_1mm
3. I think I may have already mentioned (read: gushed about endlessly...) on these forums about my undying love for my old Westone Raider I. Losing that thing has been like losing a body part.
4.
Uncut blocks of "Fancy Soaps"
Yup, it really is soap... http://www.soap-makers.com/1-5kg-soap-loaves.html Buy it in "loaves", slice it up, wrap it up and flog it for ridiculous amounts of money.
5.
By my calculation, that's about 150 bars of Pears..! You must be very clean folks.
It was a box of uncut blocks of fancy soaps. They have all sorts of weird things in 'em. The idea is to slice them up and sell them. My wife used to have a stall at various craft fairs, which is where she sold them. The good thing was that the company she bought them from immediately sent out a new batch, no problems at all.
6.
Have you checked they've not dumped it in your front garden somewhere? Or maybe with a neighbour? It's also possible that they're tracking system is a bit optimistic. Some bright spark at a courier company thought it would be a good idea to put a parcel in a wheely bin so it wouldn't get wet..... lucky it wasn't bin day. Hope you can get it sorted out
Something similar happened to a parcel my wife ordered. They didn't put it in the bin, just hid it behind it. When we found it, several very wet days later, the £300 worth of soap in the box was just one huge lump.
7. My biggest Not Buying regret was last year. I have wanted a BC Rich Warlock for over 20 years, earlier this year I decided I was going to go for it. I saw the perfect one in GAK, the 5 string NT. Of course, they'd stopped making them by then and by the time my birthday rolled around (which I was using as an excuse to buy it) they had sold their last one. Next year I have to decide between a 2nd had Cort Curbow or trying to find a 2nd hand Warlock NT. But as I settled on a Cort T-35 5 String this year I shall be after a 4 string next year. Unless someone else decides to buy them all up and burn them. I never have any luck with these things, I've known whole businesses go bust and cities get wiped out just because I wanted something they sold or I wanted to visit. I'm cursed, or I am a curse.
8. I got my Peavey T-Max 500 from a CashConverters for the same price. I know which I'd prefer. I'm not a Behringer hater, I have some of their kit that I have had no problems with and enjoy using.
9. My first Bass, Christmas 1987, a Westone Raider I. I loved that thing and had it for many happy years. Unfortunately, and through no fault of my own (which is the really sickening part), we found ourselves in crippling debt and I had to sell it. I still miss it and it breaks my heart everytime I think about it. If only I'd been able to hang on to it for a few more months we actually had some luck and I wouldn't have needed to sell it. I am still yet to find another Bass that is "The One". The only photo I have of it I'm naked in the picture (Yeah, I loved it THAT much!), so you ain't seeing it! I wish I had the photos of my 18th birthday cake as it was modelled on that Bass, it was very cool.

I have the Bass V-Amp Pro. I bought it as a cheap way to experiment a bit with some effects, though the effects are almost an afterthought, after it's pre-amp and amp modelling. It's been good though, it's very versatile and adds a lot to my rig. I am very pleased with it. If the tuner worked better with a low B string I would probably love it. Mind you, to really get full use out of it when setting up sounds, you really need to hook it up to a PC as there are things you can't get at otherwise.
11.
Wouldn't risk Acetone... It might well degrease the finish right the way down to bare wood, & that would be bad. Assuming there's some overspray in the control compartment and pickup routs, you could do worse than to experiment with various solvents on the end of a cotton bud - if there's transfer, you know not to use that one (and get a clue as to what finish will be safe to use for the re-spray).
Good point about the acetone. What about alcohol? I had thought of the cavities but I shielded them all not long ago. Not to worry for now anyway, I shall do some proper research when/if I actually get around to it. I'm rubbish with paint of any kind and I think such a finish would require skills I don't possess. But, it is only a cheapo Bass (Aria Pro II, MAB 20/5, Magna Series) and if I were to just go for it and experiment, it's the one to do it on. We'll see.
12. The Bass doesn't have a pick guard. I shall try somewhere on the back. Assuming I ever actually get around to it. I do use lighter fluid for cleaning stuff* but I would have thought acetone would have been more appropriate for this, or am I very wrong? *Sometimes, when I've had to take a lot of my painkillers... I get obsessed with cleaning things, especially metal things. So I have a lot of cleaning fluids and equipment. One of the best cleaning fluids I've got is made up of the dregs left over from soak baths using various noxious substances. Just walking past the shelf where the jar of it sits makes my eyes water!
13.
Why? Fender never used to: http://www.curtisnov...age/JazzBass59/ If the existing finish is sound, all it needs is a light sand to key the surface, a thorough degrease & then go straight over with the new colour. Black will obliterate any underlying colour very quickly - possibly in one pass. Pete.
Cool, that answers a question I've been meaning to get around to asking. I've got a Bass that's a pearlescent white and I was thinking of refinishing it to Piano white. I was hoping I would be able to get away with not having to take it all the way back to wood.
14. My only worry would be that if it's away for a long time while being refinished, out of anticipation you'll develop a nostalgic and distorted view of the way it sounds. So when it comes back, even though it sounds the same as when it left, your memory of it will be different. If you see what I mean.
15. I got a phone call one day, I was 16 at the time, from a band that had heard about me and wanted me to audition for them. I didn't know any of the members, hadn't even heard of them, I still don't know how they knew about me. The singer picked me up to take me to the audition, only, when we got there the venue had been double booked with an old folks Tea Dance! So we go to the lead guitarists tiny house. Me and the rhythm guitarist set up in the livingroom, the drummer in the kitchen, the lead in the hallway and the singer sitting on the stairs! About 20 minutes after starting some bloke from up the street starts banging on the door shouting that we'd woken his kid up. So we pack up. Suddenly everyone disappears into the bathroom, they emerge a few minutes later and ask if I'd like to join. Apparently those 20 minutes, my reputation as a player, my personality, enthusiasm and ability to put up with a daft situation and still have a laugh, got me the spot (that's what they told me). I have to say, they were a great bunch of guys and I had by far the best experience playing in a band with them. I still miss that band.
16. I think you're after an in-line socket. http://www.maplin.co.uk/plastic-1-4-mono-linesocket-1266 http://www.maplin.co.uk/metal-1-4-mono-line-socket-1267 (same but in metal)
17. I quite often get a Gateway Timeout at silly o'clock in the night.
18. I never drink wine, I can't stand the stuff, but even I can tell the difference between red and white. The smell of red makes me feel really sick.
19. I've just come across someone talking about the Tanglewood Rebel 4K. I looked it up and it looks like the Westfield that I have is a cheap copy (of an already cheap bass...). Unless anyone knows if the Tanglewood is a copy of something else? The body wood is different and the neck finish is different, so I don't think it's the same bass under a different name. I wonder if they're made in the same factory perhaps?

I likes Peavey stuff, I does; had a 115BW cab, a 410TX, 2x10 of some variety (no badge) and a T-Max during my proper gigging days, heavy as f*** but not an issue with a van and people to help you get it up stairs...sounded great and practically indestructable! Currently got a Classic 4x10" guitar cab as well as the Milestone III bass and Microbass practise amp (which I'm currently trying to move on to finish my P-project, incidentally ), nice kit.
I got it off Ebay and my wife picked it up from Pembroke. I don't know how long he'd had it, or if it was you and you've moved? I'm going to make it look even cheesier by painting a Mudflap Girl on it in silver...
21. I adore my Peavey rig. It consists of a T-Max 500 and a 410TX. The only reason the TX doesn't have it's badge is because its previous owner painted flames up the front of it. It is incredibly versatile and very loud. I suffer with a bad spine but that means that any gear is really too heavy for me, so, if I have to have someone help shift it anyway it doesn't really matter how much it weighs, if you see what I mean. I did buy a new Peavey Guitar combo about 8 years ago and that was pretty nasty. I ended up sticking with my Laney Linebacker until I got my Boss GX-700.
22. No. I found a couple of old pictures of it. It desperately needed cleaning though, sorry about that... I had to alter the first photo so you could see it as it was in shadow, so everything looks washed out. It's got a plywood body.
23. I have a Westfield that I'm rather fond of. I can't remember how long I've had it for, must be about 10 years. It was relatively expensive at £200, which was the price that several local shops were selling it at at the time. I think it's called a Small Body, but it's nothing like the current Small Bodies, I can't find any good information on it. I recently gave it a make over, new electrics (though I've kept the original pick-ups in it as they sound nice), some flatwounds (never used them before) and a bloomin' good set up. The action is still a bit higher than I'd like, I have shimmed the neck but it needs a bit more, the bridge saddles for the E and G are set at rock bottom. But I do love it, it sounds lovely, plays well and looks nice too.
24. No matter how intriguing the title or plot, don't be tempted to give that new Syfy Channel movie a go.
25.
Top tip - Get braces & play punk or mod.
Like I say, I'm a great big fatty. Pogoing wouldn't be pretty!
