I've owned DD-20, DL-4, Echo Park etc. And I've settled on the new ElectroHarmonix for now. Has all the modes, presets, etc. True Bypass, Tap Tempo, no hum etc. Solid as. I'm sure I'll change again in a couple of years when the next generation hits, but for now this ticks all the boxes (but I also have a dirty little analogue delay stashed away for special occasions). How long do you need this delay to be? I had a play with the new Behringer Vintage Delay - that's true analogue and sounds sweet. A friend with good taste also rates the new MXR designed by Mr. Way Huge (the Carbon Copy).

Right arm Plectrum Strings Pre-amp (the tronographic rusty box) Bass in that order. -

And if you want a book, I believe 'Electronics Projects for Musicians' by Craig Anderton is as good a place to start as any.

Which bits would help? I can already tell you that I changed the pickups, and I have a spare Rick bridge around here somewhere that might go onto it next time I feel like working on it... Single truss rod btw. Refin is a good theory, as it has flaked off in a few places, including around the neck joint (where I am led to understand these things always 'move' a touch). And here's a pic from the previous owner with the original TRC and Schallers.

Not for sale but... This is my fake no 1 (no 2 is having some work done before it can appear here). This bass was originally badged 'CMI', but the previous owner scratched the TRC clear. I got our lovely friend the italian faker to make me a new one. This is a thru-neck fake, and presumably suffered from the 'cat can climb under the action' problem, so at some point someone has routed a hole to get the bridge lower, and then had to cut into the rear pickup surround so the atrings can run true. Lovely action now. It also came with a set of 4-a-side vintage Schaller tuners on (two mounted backwards!) so I've replaced them with better-looking things. This colour gets many, many comments.

I have my TU-2 at the end of the chain, so I don't need to worry about all the true-bypass fuzzes in front of it. It's also useful because it can kill a 'wall-of-noise' distortion dead at the end of a gig.

I got so sick of the way other bands and promoters mess about (especially in London!) that me and a mate have become promoters. We make people stick to time, we enforce kit-share, sometimes weeks in advance, to minimise changeovers. If you mess other bands about, we cut your set short. Then we give all profits to the bands. I think it's time that bands took back more of the power like this. What is the point of a full-time promoter anyway?

I used the cheapo ones from bitsbox. They wear out eventually, but then I do use them to chop EVERYTHING.

[font="Arial"]I basically cut the switch out in the end - get some nice sharp snips under it and chop! Then I desoldered and removed the remaining pins. Then, looking down at the board, component-side up, there are 6 holes where the switch used to be. Connect them like this [font="Courier New"] O---O O O---O O[/font] Then it works![/font]

I fixed one of these recently. It gets easier if you take the switch apart. Cut it off if you have to. It's screwed anyway, right? I've never known anyone turn one of these off, so I just bypassed the switch into always on. I can dig it out and tell you what point to solder to what, if you want.

I've always put this down to lazy soundmen, tbh. I use a heavily effected signal through the amp - quite brutal EQing and clipping (it's a GK and I love that old school 800RB tone). It would be totally inappropriate to take the DI before the pre-amp, because it wouldn't sound at all right for the tunes. Which is why, in the end, I put a preamp in my pedalboard. I can do all the monkeying there, and only offer the soundman the sound I want.

Someone must have a child who needs a new bed! I'll give this a couple more days before I strip the hardware off and smash the box up.
