1. I've known soundmen pointedly refuse to take a DI or lineout from the bass head, and demand to take it before, claiming 'interference'. I'd argue that there are plenty who don't really know what they're doing, at least on the crappy London venue circuit I inhabit.
2. This might sound really weird, but is the soundman taking your bass DI signal before your amp? I've been to loads of places where they do this (for a whole variety of dubious reasons) and it would mean that anything your amp or EQ settings do to remove nasty squealy frequencies wasn't happening in the monitors and out-front. Hence feedback. Maybe.
3. Yes, but as far as I can tell, if you've got an allen key you can take them apart, reverse them and use them in any orientation (4+1, 3+2) you like.
Are the 5 tuners all in-line?
4. More parts to shift... 5 Hipshot Ultralite tuners. Brand new. Only took 2 out of the packet to see if they'd fit the 70s bass I was retrofitting. They don't. They're these ones: http://www.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=...etail&p=105 Schaller style-pegs but cloverleaf keys. They're £19.80 each at Allparts, same at Thomann, so say £50 plus delivery for all 5? A Seymour Duncan Basslines SCPB-1 single coil precision bass pickup just like this one: <a href="http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass...cpb1_vintage_f/" target="_blank">http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass...cpb1_vintage_f/</a> This was in a bass that I bought but looked all wrong. So now it's for sale. In excellent condition. £22 posted in the UK with the cracked original box and instructions?
5. I highly recommend these - I've got a 450b. It's beautiful. Used to have a DMZ4001, but I sold it. Which I regret. I'm a bit of aluminium obsessive, to be honest. Wait until you see the Kramer hybrid that a very talented luthier is working on for me...
6. I always contact everyone beforehand, and always try and arrange it so as much as possible is shared. I'm always happy to let people use my amp (honestly - if someone can damage my amp by playing through it, it means it's a cr*p amp and I need a different one). Having the same gear on-stage helps the soundman and cuts down changeover times, so less of the other bands' mates have left by the time you start. What annoys me is bands who won't get in contact beforehand, and then make demands on the day.
7. Bumped with updates. Deep Impact is on the Bay.
8. One of a number of hugely overpriced Kramers they just can't shift on Denmark St...
9. You're saved in the short-term at least. The site says they aren't taking orders. I'm sure your GAS will have changed target by the time they come back onstream ;-)
10. I love the fact that basschat is so broad there's someone on here using every kind of sound! I tip my cap to you, sir. I've found that I can use my HM-2 as a pure noise pedal (especially for its ability to amplify mains hum!), but I've never got it to function with my bass tone. If it works for you, that's brilliant. Bargain way to get some fun noises! So I guess the take-home message about distortion is: Trust no-one except your own ears. Go try some pedals.
why is that mate? for a full on fuzzy distortion, it is hard to beat. there is absolutely no bass loss, and even boost available!
11. I sometimes think we should have a definitive list of pedals that suck all the bass out of your tone, so that none of us buy them by accident. So many so-called "guitar" distortions work amazingly for bass it's annoying when you find one that doesn't. I've used loads and loads of distortions designed for guitar and bass. My only piece of definitive advice, is don't try a BOSS HM-2!
12. I have to agree. The French Toast is a hell of a sound for not much cash.
13. Bumped with some sold, some added.
14. Indeed it is. Some previous owner has carefully removed the words 'Epiphone' and 'Gibson' from it though. I can't imagine why.
15. Yep - my Epi Flying V bass has a set neck and two pickups. It's also up for sale dead cheap if any of you GASsed up guys fancy getting rid of those feeling for approx. 2% of what a vintage Gibson would cost...
16. I never really liked Mr. Tickle. Arms too long. And Mr. Happy? Well, you have to be suspicious of anyone that blissful. No, my favourite was definitely Mr. BUMP.
17. I've got a Kahler on one of my P-basses (had a fun couple of days routing for it with a dremel). I expected the worst, and the first couple of times i used it I had my tuner on bypass to constantly check the pitch - but in fact it's very stable. It'll go out of tune if you do huge divebombs that slacken the strings, but in normal use it's fine. I just don't worry about it anymore.
18. I've been thinking about these too. DEAD cheap here: http://www.zingsmusic.com/product_info.php?products_id=5176 Not a lot of reviews out there yet, though.
19. Every single time I step foot in a bass shop someone is playing Hysteria. I'm glad it's not any of you guys n gals. Fast becoming the bass 'Stairway to Heaven' I reckon.
20. Yep - great amp but I bet it won't sell at this money.
21. I can't believe it's still here... but it is!
22. Sorry Rorykins. Neither my cup of tea, really.
