    Bought a few months ago from eBay. I don't know what I was thinking. This sounds great but I'm never going to get to play it live. It just wouldn't look right with the stuff I'm doing at the moment. I bought it to travel with, but guess what? I almost never travel... 30" scale. Fast, low action. Big sound from the bridge humbucker. The neck is aluminium with wooden inserts, painted black. Schaller tuners at the "wrong" end. SOLD.

    You and the other 20 people. I put the ad on Soundonsound.com. I have been drowning in replies since I sold it. It feels weird to me - SM7bs are great, but in no way rare. The M380 is hugely sought-after (by those who know) and rarely can you get hold of one.

    Two more mics that I need to get rid of (so that I can afford a second AKG C414). Shure SM7B SOLD Beyer M380 TG. This is a real rarity - a figure-8 dynamic mic. Long out of production. This is the rarer black finish, that differs from the commoner gold model only in the colour of the paint. A killer kick drum and bass cab mic, that can also thicken a double bass sound beautifully. Makes even a thin bass sound into a tempest.     I have given in to www.addisonlee.com whenever I have to move a cab. High quality service, loads of amps space (I've carried a whole band's gear) and not as expensive as a real cab. Other than that, my mate Jim once brought his Mesa 400+, bass and Schroder 1212 to a gig on the tube.

    Last time I recorded a DB I used a Beyer M201 (hypercardioid dynamic) shoved up the bridge wrapped in foam, pointing at the fingerboard, and an AKG C414 B-ULS positioned about a foot away from the front of the bass. The M201 captured all the detail of the technique, and the 414 added a big, round, deep double bass feel. That was in a biggish rehearsal studio and came out sounding pretty good. The 414 was in cardioid mode to avoid picking up the baritone sax being recorded at the same time. I've also used an RE-20 positioned just in front of the F-hole. It gets a good sound provided that the DB player doesn't move their instrument!

    I gave into my almost-annual T-40 GAS and bought this lovely example six months ago. Now it's time for my annual realisation that I'll never get around to playing it more than a tiny amount. There are a couple of discoloured spots on the neck and a biggish scratch on the back. Some crazy previous owner added a thumbrest. You might even like that. The chrome on the tuners is a bit pitted, and that on the bridge saddles a bit crazed. The pickup selector switch is noisy when you change between pickups. Enough bad news. The finish looks great on-stage and it sounds like heaven. The electrics work great (other than that danged noisy pickup switch). It also comes with the original fitted Peavey case.     Is this the stuff with conductive glue so that you can just overlap it to create conductivity? Or the kind that you need to solder between individual strips?

    I have one of these. It's OK, but it's not a patch on a lot of other ribbons.
