Using the behringer always put me off recording, because it was direct from the bass and the tone was terrible. It may sound a little better from an amps D.I, but I found it hard to use to record. Almost soul destroying. Having read the blurb and viewed some youtube videos I'm excited to get cracking with the One, looks like a good product.
Excellent. You won't regret buying it. They hold their secondhand value as well. If you paid about £100 it will be worth that for a few years yet, so once you move on you won't make a loss.
Cheers for all the help guys. I ended up going for the Apogee One for Mac, which I brought from a fellow BC member. Wanted an audio interface, but with the additional mic I can record acoustically and with the whole band together for rough demos/writing ideas. It wasn't until I started looking at the suggestions did I realise what I needed/wanted. I'll see how Garageband goes, but I may convert to Logic Pro, now that I've upgraded my mac. Thanks guys!
Good choice. Great mic on the a1. You should see a massive difference compared to the behringer. Gband is cool as long as its for home learning etc.
Just finished... phew. I've been collaborating with Rob (RockfordStone) this month on an alt-rock/nu metal track. Rob's music normally has a really great 'stadium' feel to it, so I wanted to draw on that and aim for something akin to the Deftones in terms of heaviness. Well, sort of. The idea was to capture the darker side of a big city like New York; the territorial conflicts that take place. Especially in a place like NYC, which has been fought over by different gangs throughout history (yeah, I've seen The Warriors! ). Hence the title, 'Empire City'. Have a listen and let us know what you think: https://soundcloud.com/skollob/empire-city It's mixed on headphones (as always with me), so feedback on the production itself is gratefully received. And cheers to everyone who's taken part this month. We've had a good turnout of old hands and new faces, which is great. I'm looking forward to listening through them all!
It really works. Well done. It sounds awesome.

Wow man. This is a great idea but a lot of work. It's like 12 mini tracks. Ill give it a go bit I don't think I'll get it finished.
Ok heres mine , it is not as I had hoped at all , but it is worth sharing , I had to do the vocal , and the daughter lost interest at the singing point , she helped with the ideas though. There are lots of bits I like about it and have learned loads doing it , and as it was all done with this thread in mind it seems daft not to put it in . I think I will really struggle to get anything in for next month as I am away for 2 and half weeks of it and have some preparation to do beforehand. So, warts and all I give you my July entry
That's fairly mega, it has split my decision so far. Well done mate.

All The Queens Ravens live videos from album launch (8 July)
To quote Monty Python, "I'm not dead yet!" Cheers for comments Jigster, 'Hearts for Judas' is free on Spotify but is also downloadable at itunes, Amazon and the CD (with gatefold sleeve, cover art etc) is available on our website
Aahh..... It's your band. I'm really sorry. I thought you were posting it because the singing was so mental. The thought occurred to me while listening to the clips that it would be mad to be married to the pair of them. I imagined a comical (to me obviously) scene where we were having a domestic and they were singing at me and I hadn't a clue what they were saying. My choice of words has let me down and I apologise unreservedly as clearly what I said is very offensive, considering you are a band member. I actually liked it. -
erm, right. We have BassChat's first polygamous psychiatrist. No comment on the music or performance then?
Lol..... I take it you're a fan. -
If I owned the bass of doom and Jaco Pastorious's nipper came round looking for it and I was having my tea, I'd say 'Oi! Pastorius's nipper! NO! You wait till I've had my tea. And no sitting in my front room. Outside! Now! Sit in your car!" and if he said to me he didn't have a car I'd tell him to wait at the end of our drive by the hedge. .
Is that Michael Hedge, or is it "the hedge" from U2.

You are paying for the rarity. I've a few builds on the go at the moment so I'm fixed for gas at the moment. My favourite is one I'm doing for someone else and I'm In love with it. Always the way though.

If I owned the bass of doom and Jacos lad came knocking on my door looking for the bass back, I'd invite him in. I'd get the measure of him and if I thought he deserved it, I'd give it to him. If I thought he was tryin it on or maybe lookin to get it back so he could make a few quid, I would tell him he can have it for what I paid for it. I'm a fair guy, maybe not as fair as the devil but I'm fairer than most. That's how I'd play it and I reckon that's how it's being played right now. Finders keepers.
Hi No I just uploaded it straight to YouTube. The ipad has a great mic, just have to position it not to near your speaker and it records great!
+1, all the recent apple products I purchased have excellent mics. The key is getting the distance right. A while back my mate asked me to come up with some ideas (guitar riffs) for a few songs he'd written. He sent me the songs I listened to them on my headphones and recorded some licks I thought might work into garageband using the mic on my iMac. I sent him my ideas and he used the recordings I'd made for his demo. No re-takes etc, they quality was spot on.
Definitely out then, my PC can barely cope with playing video without trying to record music at the same time. Also my studio is in pieces in it's new shed home. It will take me most of the month to put it back together. Pick either excuse, whichever works for you, also it's too hot to hide indoors writing music, I'm playing banjo in the summer house instead.
" You're gonna do some prayin' for me, boy.
Well , the thing is that Jaco and the other artists you mention were radical departures within their given discipline , and changed their medium forever . It is possible for all kinds of fancy Dan bass players to come along with amazing chops and technique , but so far most have struggled to make the impact that Jaco did . I wouldn't put Jaco in the same bracket as Mozart or Shakespear for various reasons ( I could explain why , if you like ) , but in his own modest way he was a genius of sorts , but not because of his technique . His gift was that he thought about and interpreted music differently to other people , and happened to do so via the medium of the bass guitar . Like just about every genius you can think of , Jaco was unconventional , a radical , and unlike anything that had come before him on the bass guitar . He wasn't alone in that by any means - there were other fantastically gifted players of that era - but at his best he was brilliant in his own right . He was versatile too , despite having such a distinctive signature style . He was a World- class jazz bassist and accomplished soloist , but his work as an accompanist in various genres is equally accomplished and shows great maturity and sensitivity to the overall musical picture rather than just his own role in it . Regardless of your own personal taste ( which you are fully entitled to , I hasten to add) Jaco was the real deal , the complete package . I am not one of Jaco's slavish followers by any means , and I couldn't even say he was the player I myself have enjoyed or or directly tried to emulate the most , but his stature on the instrument is undeniable .
Right on m*****f***er...... Nobody can argue with that. If they try they must be stupid.
