Made in England (I believe the later models are made offshore now.) 307w at 4ohm, excellent condition, very little use. I used this mostly for rehearsals and maybe 10-15 gigs in my pre-Diablo days, but the Ashdown sound isn't for me and it's sat unused for a while now (apart from a loan to my mates band Dakota to get them through a gig the other week) £125[/s]NOW SOLD [s]Trace Elliot 4x10 cab, 200w, 8ohm, model 1048. 8. This is a great site for all aspects of Ric onwership and maintenance http://www.joeysbassnotes.com/Joeys%20frameset.htm The guy is a mod on the RickResource forum and certainly knows his stuff. Hope this helps, Steve.
9.
This is my preferred method for tangle-free storage. I prefer wireless at a gig anyway, but practice cables are constantly being tidied away like this. I've also heard that its not good for cable life, but none of mine have ever failed. I find it interesting that many people that mention it say that its bad for their health and yet that they've had no problems (I'm still using my first cable that must be 15 years old now) I wonder if its just because its not done in the "approved" way or if there is any proof that this method damages them?
Same here, I'm wireless but my pedal board is hooked up with cables which I tidy this way too. They've done 400+ gigs, at least as many rehearsals and I've had zero problems. I'm careful not to pull them too hard either when tidying away or tying the thumb not, too tight a loop there will likely be stressing the cable and sheathing. Basically, I'm gentle, use decent cables and combined with this tidying method it helps them last years. Edit to add: I think cables suffer far more damage from being trodden on at gigs than any method of folding could inflict...
10. Usually rack gear is designed to work best at line-level, rather than the lower instrument level, and effects loops are usually line-level too so yes, the best match all round will be to put the Rocktron in the effects loop.
11.
I present the first in my series of studies designed for the Pre-Novice. This is called "Étude in E":
Looks like a musical version of Space Invaders to me...and I'm about to get wiped out!
12. I'm not too fussed if what I play doesn't get noticed, as others have said joe public rarely makes the distinction between the instruments, they just get into the song and performance which is as it should be. The only thing that bugs me is if the sound engineer doesn't get the bass tone (mine or bands I'm watching) clear in the mix. I should add I get just as frustrated if the vocals/guitars/drums/key/whathaveyou get mangled, but this being a bass forum I'll take the liberty of single-ing out the bass From personal experience, I used to trust our regular engineer until I started going out front in the soundcheck only to hear something that sounded like 2 thick blankets and a duffel coat had been draped carelessly over the bass sound...harumph! To me, if the sound of all the instruments is as good as it can be the audience will enjoy the performance even more, even if they can't say why afterward. No instrument should be an exception to this and of course it relies on each musician giving tones that work well together in a band context to the engineer, and the engineer to feedback to the band if they're making his job impossible.
13. I'm very jealous! I'm off to lick someone with synthesisia to see if I can catch it!
14. The Behringer rack tuner seems to be getting a bit of a knocking but I've got one and the simple secret to getting it to work reliably on bass is to roll the bass tone/treble knob right off while tuning to give it a strong fundamental to tune off. Tone up=ages to register on the E, Tone down=very little delay, even for the low B on my 5 string. Seems like it doesn't like harmonic overtones, that's all. Now you might say that rolling the highs off shouldn't be necessary to get a tuner to work, and you'd be right in the case of expensive rack tuners...except the Behringer is so cheap that a microsecond spent twisting one knob seems a fair exchange for what is otherwise a very cheap and well featured rack tuner. I've no t owned any other Behringer gear so I can only pass on my honest experience of the tuner, which has been a good experience for the price. I'd say buy one and if even rolling the tone off doesn't work for you you should be able to get a full refund under the sale of goods act if it truly isn't fit for purpose.
15. I think it depends on the terrain you're wheeling it over. Carpeted pub floors and smooth carpark tarmac should be no worse than the jiggling a cab or combo has had in the car or van it's just been transported in to the gig. Not to mention the vibrations the cab/head/combo sget from the speakers when in full flight. Rough ground is asking for trouble though.
16. If there's a long enough lead on the pickup you could try installing it the opposite way round so that the E pole is under the G string. If you then get a weak response on the G string you'll have confirmed that the fault is more than likely a weak magnet on the polepiece. You might be able to remaganetize it, search eBay for rare earth magnets (they're ridiculously powerful) and they are often for sale as small discs. Buy the size appropriate to your polepiece diameter and simply place it on the underside of the polepiece (you'll need to make sure you get the North/South orientation right). Leave it there for a couple of days and it should be fine. Actually you could probably leave it on permanently if it doesn't subsequently sound out of balance with the other 3 polepieces. Hope this helps, Steve.
17. That's the thing with cables, there is no such thing as a cable that will improve your signal/tone, they can only "damage" it - i.e. there will always be some kind of measurable loss or change between what goes into the cable and what comes out the other end. A good cable with well contructed jacks "damages" the signal only a little, a bad one "damages" it a lot.
18. Wins the award for the most agricultural strap "button" ever seen on a bass!
19.
The first of the two vids posted above shows him using a Rick (with a wierd pup arrangement!) on Smoke on the Water...
The angled Jazz pickups were a mod done after the Machine Head album was recorded, his Ric was stock at the time. Lovely sound, different to other prominent Ric users a the time. Not sure what amps/studio magickery was used - anyone know? His Ric is being discussed here at the moment http://www.rickresource.com/phpBB3/viewtop...11&t=392953

21. This is a known issue with older Ibanez pedals, the little microswitch under the footswitch gives up after a while. Mine's the same, I really should do something about it! According to the UK distributor's website support page http://www.headstockdistribution.com/support.php "Where can I get spare parts for my product? Please consult your local dealer who will consult with us where necessary." So pop back to your nearest Ibanez dealer and ask them if they can help.
22.
Well, it's not a forum anymore in that case, for starters!
I wish Alex every success with his business but I have to agree with this, it's not a forum if people can't actively participate. Granted Alex says he'll still take Q's on any subject via PM or direct email to Barefaced but surely that's not in the spirit of Basschat, it's just using Basschat as a means of contact rather than as a forum. There's even a risk that the answers he posts to PM'd questions could be seen as one-sided or even self-promotional, again not in the spirit of the forum especially if there's no option for people to post their own views. Just saying. Maybe his section should now be moved to a subforum in the "Basschat Affiliates" section, or even the "Affiliates market" section which is described as being for "Small companies wishing to promote their wares may do so here free of charge..." As it stands, Alex's forum is the only one on BC which can't be used as a forum... I'm quite surprised the mods weren't informed beforehand too, I presume there's one or two discussions behind the scenes at the mo'.
23.
...On the other hand I have had some bad experiences - e.g., the rack mount tuner that doesn't hear bass frequencies at all
Mine does, but it takes a couple of seconds to register the E and Low B strings. Not ideal but it does hear bass frequencies and to be honest the Korg handheld tuner I had was equally iffy on the low B. Besides, for the price I paid 2nd hand I'm happy...and it has pretty lights
