Jim, I want so badly your Wal Mk I.
I've had the Wal from new (bought by me in 1987 after saving up wages from a crap job for a long time!) my first good bass - so it has a lot of memories...so I doubt if I could ever bring myself to sell it.

As far as I know that's not a 1958 Senator - the dagger logo on the headstock wasn't introduced until 1964 & in fact I don't think they even started making Senator basses until 1963. There are other far more knowledgeable Hofner geeks (paging 'Happy Jack') on here who will hopefully add some more info... It looks like it has had all the finish stripped off the neck & body, it's got an extra button added that's not original, and is missing the Hofner badge. They are great old basses - but even when all original & in good condition they never fetch more than £300-400 - so this one maybe £200-ish?
Hi there, have you tried any of Pete's pedals?
No I haven't... I very rarely use FX pedals. But I do know that his pedals have an incredible reputation - expensive, but you'd be getting the best money can buy.
-
Yes - I've got some. They are awesome.
Hi everyone, just got a couple of Pete Cornish guitar/bass instrument cables. OMFG! the sound quality and volume compared to my old cables was unbelieveable. Volume and clarity were so prononced that i thought i had knocked a couple of dials on the ABM. Pete has offered to make bass versions of his pedals.... does anyone use any of them? Kind regards Marc
AVALON U5 DI/Pre-Amp with rack ears £350 SOLD
99ster replied to drewie's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
There's a reason why you'll very often see an Avalon U5 sat on top of, or next to the bass rig of numerous famous/big name bass players, and on stage with the best high-end PA systems (e.g. Glastonbury) - it's because they are the mutt's nuts. The U5 is the 'Industry Standard' if you want the best DI bass sound live or in the studio. -
A demonstration if one were needed of how hard it is to sell guitars of questionable provenance for ten times the amount they're actually worth. Hope Leeds is next.
+1000. The Leeds shop is on a par with Denmark Street. Never went to the Manchester shop but I would be frankly astonished if it was any better - being part of the same evil empire.
I spent the second half of last year looking for a really nice vintage jazz. I reckon that's a good price, so long as you're sure that (i) it's a 1963 and (ii) it really is all original. eBay dealer Bambibau often gets over £2500 for nice early-70's re-fins.
+1 That's a good price for a '63 with a body refin - as long as every other part is 100% original.

Steed basses- 1960 blonde stack knob J style bass
99ster replied to wesfinn's topic in Build Diaries
Wow, that is in rediculous condition isn't it! Worth a bum-load! Si
Oh yeah - that's virtually 'as new'. If you zoom in you can even see the original receipt together with all the un-touched 'case candy'. Amazing. Worth quite a few bum-loads I would think! And a perfect example of how the burst finishes are very distinctive on these earl Jazz basses - with loads of black in them. I would think it must have been the same guy that shot them in that particular way for the first couple of years... PS - and apparently that's the Fender amp that the original owner bought at the same time in 1960... -

Anyone tried a AcePro ADB-100CE Natural Acoustic Bass?
99ster replied to 99ster's topic in Bass Guitars
I bought my dad an Acepro guitar the Christmas before the one just gone. I think it cost me £130 and I wasn't really expecting much, but the quality is fantastic for the money and it sounds pretty good too. It's a thin bodied semi, with a piezo pickup - a rip off of a Chet Atkins Gibson basically - so it doesn't get played unplugged very often, but sounds good plugged in. The acoustic instruments may be a different story.
Many thanks for the mini-review of the guitar - that's promising & the pictures of it do actually look quite good. But even at £109 I'm very hesitant without being able to play it... -
Anyone got one of these or tried one - AcePro ADB-100CE Natural Acoustic Bass? Are they worth a punt for £109? Or more useful as firewood?

I've tried LaBella's & found the string tension to be too high for me...& the Thomastiks are too skinny for me (use 110 rounds on P Basses). Interested in trying Pyramid Gold flats - are they lower tension compared to the LaBella's??? Thanks!

what tune/band that got you into bass ?
99ster replied to phil.i.stein's topic in General Discussion
London Calling by The Clash - with the bass played by the coolest dude on the planet: Paul Simonon. How could you not want to be a bass player after hearing that?
