How to tell if this is a fake fender?
99ster replied to jdougan's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It's a definite 'no'. Decal, truss access, pickguard... all wrong. Might be a fine bass, mind you... just not a Fender.
+100 All wrong. Run away! -
Fender 62 Precision Original. Loadsamoney! did the maple board precision disappear completely til 67/68? Was it only the early 'telecaster' style Precision that had a maple board? BB
Yep - that's the real thing for sure. Looks like it needs a bit of TLC and a good clean...! Will be interesting to see what that finally goes for... Maple board precision? Fender stopped making them as a production item in around 1960. Not really seen again until the famous (& incredibly rare) 1966 UK 'slab' precisions. I've heard tales/rumours of one-off custom order maple neck precisions in the 1960's - but never seen pictures of any (that's not to say some weren't made though). Then the 1968 Telecaster Bass had a maple board & in 1969 the maple neck returned as a standard option (as WOT says - with the TV logo on the headstock)...

I think this one has been the subject of an extensive discussion on the FDP - as it's been up for sale before on eBay.... And there's a post here in the eBay section. General conclusion is that it's dodgy.

TO GO: Huge quantity of Creative Arts design magazines...
99ster replied to 99ster's topic in Completed Items
would you consider posting it?
Yes I would - but I fear it would cost a lot. There are loads of them! It would take 4 or 5 BIG /heavy boxes. Best thing would be to come & collect... -
Its a beautiful bass but does refinishing not seriously devalue a vintage instrument rather than push the price up? Anyone know about this.
Yes. Unfortunately - refinishing a vintage guitar/bass halves its market value. That's the law of the vintage guitar jungle. No matter how good the re-finish (& wow - that is a lovely looking re-finish!) that's what happens to its market value. That may not seem to make any sense - but that's the way it is. :|
"Creative Arts Magazines"? Is that what you call them? Surely you should hand them down to you son in time honoured tradition? Or has the missus rumbled them?
Oh no - I've been rumbled! -
Huge quantity of (expensive) Creative Arts / Creative Arts Project / Create online - design magazines... complete with the CD's, etc. Many still unopened in their postal packaging (yep - too many magazine subscriptions!) - many years worth... FREE to a good home - maybe you have a design student in your house??? You just need to come & get them!

Opcode Vision DSP v4.1 Sequencer For Mac More info here Not sure how much the postage will be (boxed with all the discs, manuals, etc) - I'd guess £3 or £4. But I'm not bothered about that if someone really wants it. As this is 10 year old software - I doubt if it's of any use to anyone here (only works on OS7/8)... So anyone interested before I skip it (having a big house tidy before moving house - so have to be ruthless)?
OK, before I start, I don't really know what I am talking about and just using words that our singer has said We have some recordings done on our singers home studio which is basically a PC, small desk and something he calls Logic. The mixes are very rough and we would like to take the recordings to a studio and get a really good mix. Now he mentioned something about Protools being compatiable with Logic. So, can anyone recommend any good Protools studio around the south, thats fairly cheap that we can use to do some mixing as our singer is struggling to get a decent mix out of his setup and admits to not knowing enough about it. Sorry, if everything I just mentioned makes no sense but I know nothing about Protools, Logic etc either.
ProTools & Logic aren't compatible in the sense that you can't open a Logic project with ProTools - or a ProTools project with Logic. You can use audio/midi recorded on Logic in ProTools - but it involves exporting each separate audio track as an individual audio file then importing them into ProTools (midi can be exported as a single file from Logic & imported into ProTools). But there's no way to transfer any plugin or instrument info between the 2 programs (that I know of)... But many studios have both Logic & ProTools - you'd might be better off looking for a studio with Logic...this could save you time & hassle...
£1700 BIN! That is an bargain given how much they've been selling for lately.
Certainly was a bargain price - & it got snapped up in no time at all! And that Stained Sycamore is a gorgeous finish. Mmmmm....
I just watched Jonathan Ross on demand while scoffing me tea and they sounded like they were really enjoying themselves. I thought it would be a bit cringe-worthy but I was impressed.
+1 To my surprise I actually really enjoyed it. And the Wal sounded great - will have to get mine out for a blast now! And how good were the brass section? Top class.
I have seen a few Ampegs Classic heads and 8x10 cabs on ebay go dirt cheap (different bids, but like 800 quid if you won em both!)
The Ampeg 8x10 cabs have always been difficult to sell - but only because they are so big/heavy - I'd love one but like most folks just haven't got the space to store one (I can just imagine what the Mrs would say if she came home & found an Ampeg 'fridge' in the kitchen!) - or the transport/logistics/road crew to move it!!! Similar thing with the big Ampeg valve heads - lovely but they are huge & very heavy - & that's before you put it in a flight case!
While i love listening to music and playing it, i have to say that i would never dream of having a band practice in my house and am amazed at some of the comments coming from people about how the neighbour should have approached you before going to the council and how they're some sort of anti-noise extremists with no lives because they want some peace and quiet when they're in their home...why should the complainer have to approach the noise maker? It should be bloody obvious to the poster that someone was gonna get pissed off eventually...i mean a whole band in an unsoundproofed living room? c'mon! no wonder they didn't bother approaching you, did you bother approaching any of them before you decided to have practice sessions in your house? Everyone should be entitled to live in peace and quiet in their own home without some selfish person making their life hell...
I've got to say.... +1 to this post I'm incredulous that you would think it was OK to have a full band rehearsing in your living room.
Good advice - I had previously scanned the for sale section but somehow managed to totally miss the many 70's basses that are in there We have agreed a price and all is well
Good news - you can't beat a nice early 70' Precision...

Kept any eye on this '66 Jazz - very tempted to snipe it at the end...but got too many Jazz basses already. Even though it wasn't 100% original - £2.9K is a very good price for a '66 Jazz. I hope someone here got it!!???

Crikey! Looks like you need to be talking to Mr Pete Cornish about getting that all wired up & under control!
In the 'modified' state, less than you'd expect, unless the mods are reversible. Others would know better than me, but, depending on mods, quality of re-finish, maybe £500-1000. Well, that's what I might pay.
+1 ...that sort of price range. A re-finish (no matter how well done) will reduce the value of a vintage guitar by half. That's the law of the vintage guitar jungle. And every further mod (or non-original part) will reduce the value further unless they are easily reversible & leave no permanent marks/damage.

Anyone dealt with Warpdrive Music in the US?
99ster replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Hi mate No, I was looking at the Lakland USA DD. Very speculative at present for sure, and having calculated the courier fee and the import duty it's simply too expensice any way. Guys, many thanks for the posts above, doubt I'll be buying this time (unless they accept a pretty low Best Offer), but I guess the above will be usueful to someone in the future Chris
Yep - since the exchange rate has gone very much against us here in the UK the good old days days of buying stuff effectively for half price from the US are well & truly over... As you say Chris - once you add on import duty & shipping it's just not worth the hassle anymore. -

Are you looking at buying the '69 Precision they're selling on eBay?
