Here is a almost new very Geddy Lee like (ok its a black Jazz with a maple neck and block inlays). 5 strings, Wilkinson hardware. and P'ups. I bought this a short time ago driving a fair distance to pickup as a 'sold as seen' with supposedly a broken truss rod. I had a spare neck and thought i'd swap it out, but closer inspection I found it just needed a long Allen key to adjust. restriung it and It all works just fine. There a few little push dents in the paint on the front but I didn't manage to get a representative pic to show they are that difficult to see. Scratchplate and control plate still have the protective film on. So basically a brand new VJ75 for half the cash of new. I am only selling it because I have been hankering big time for a Yamaha 425x and blow me if one didn't turn up this week. So bargain, comes with a gig bag, new strings and set up to fender specs, no buzzes or rattles. Nice weight Alder body Neck:Hard Maple bolt on neck Frets:20 Medium profile frets Nut:39mm white graphite stays friction-free Scale Length:864mm/34" Bridge:Adjustable.Machine heads:Wilkinson WJBL175 Pickups:Two Wilkinson WOJB5F (N), WOJB5R (B) single coil pickups Passive. Weight : 10lbs All marks on pics are reflections or dust.. Can post, at buyers expense.

PRICEDROP: the market is dead at the moment and I would like to see this re-homed. So a basically as new SUB5 with over £100 of mods. £300 TRADES CONSIDERED Here is my Sterling by Musicman SUB5. I have modified it up to a higher spec than a stock one. But I have bought another 5 string and have decided to let this go Mods are: New bridge (more like the ray35 style) Korean Made, very solid. New three band pre amp (Musicman clone circuit, very, very close to the original), worth £80 in itself. Side mounted Jack socket Carbon fibre effect pickguard. Kent armstrong Musicman style pickup (poleless) ... The 3 band pre-amp is better balanced than the original and mates well with the KA pickup and has a good strong low end response that the original circuit didn't have. Four controls on the scratchplate meant I had to add a side mounted jack. Its a direct clone of the Mman circuit (even down to the board config) Really well made. Much more consistent than the sub5 original. Body unmarked, Neck has a few spot of play wear nothing major. I made the scratchplate (as SUB5 plates are all but impossible to find) its based on the slightly bigger sr5 plate, carbon fibre effect. Only downside really is that two screws left of from the original bridge are visible. Stickers easily removable. Bill the cat sticker covers to uneeded screw holes from the original bridge I can (at no extra cost) wire it for series/parallel switching. All in all a very nice bass, not a super wide neck so easy to play, sounds like a musicman. For £40 I will throw in an extra KA pickup (I had plans to go the double buck route.)

Downsize bargain. This is a Harley Benton MB5. Started out as a passive classic Musicman like bass, nicely built, even had good tuners which can be sketchy on basses at this price point. I have Modded this to a real bad boy of a bass: Neater bridge (much better than the big plate bridges they come with as stock) See before and after pics. Can supply old bridge if required. 2 band EQ from a Sterling by Musicman SUB 5. Is a better mate to this pickup than the sterling i feel not harsh but still has the Musicman punch. I can throw in a used Brubaker brute Mman pickup for an extra £30. (poleless so murder out would be complete!) Series/parallel/single switching, opens the sound up wonderfully. One slight downside, some neck oil got onto the finish on the back. Not easy to remove from the matt finish, but it will come off in time is suppose, (see pic) not visible from the front, otherwise the bass is perfect. This is basically an inexpensive 'classic' like bass, with some serious punch, really nice action, good fret finish. un gigged bit like me for the last year or so.. Nut width is 45mm string spacing 18 mm Weight 4.1 Kg I can wrap the scratchplate in car wrap vinyl (black textured for the full blackout F.O.C) example pic of finish available on request. (before and after shots...)

Not often seen around these parts. I had one of these the neck is slightly wide than the standard precision and jazz offering and the truss adjustment at the pickguard end is very similar to one of Leo's later products....ahem. Great basses ! and as you say, underrated. Definately when Fender decided to step away from the P bass and J bass norm. GLWTS!

Its a good point, I have owned 4 sires both 5 and 4 strings. That said i have also bought and sold others in that time as well. Sire do a great job of a well turned out product. But like Ibanez they don't seem to have the savage loyalty of Rickenbacker or Fender, which in some respects isn't fully deserved. And being relatively cheap they are easy to pickup and are very popular. A review I saw from 'lowendlobster' on youtube, the complexity of the pre amp whilst enabling the bass to punch well above its price point, has 7 control and requires extra effort to drive and understand. I had an ACG with the dual filter pre amp and eventually sold it becuase i just couldn't drive it in gig situations. It will be interesting to see how many of the passive sires (V5?) pop up for re-sale in the coming months. If the latter don't turn over as much, then maybe four knob pre amp from sire would work. In fact lowendlobster strapped a sadowsky to a sire and was happier.

Mid 2020 I bought this as a new Squier CV series Jazz bass., and set about my own little personal tribute Geddy Lee bass. Firstly the CV series are really rather good and ha a vintage tint on the neck, 70's pickup positioning to start with, but I set about some choice changes: Badass II bridge - as per the Geddy Lee original Tom Brantley Pickups - The fella who supplied pickups for Geddy's number 1 bass, no better pedigree. (can be swapped over to Dimarzio dp122 if you like) CTS pots, cloth wiring, Fender Jazz knobs, Fender 'F' neckplate. Pearloid scratchplate and Alchemy sticker (appeared on the clockwork angels tour) Bass weighs in at 9 and a half lbs, by my bathroom scales, All in all I have about £500 into this so I think £395 is a good price to sell. Body has a couple of little scuffs on, nothing through to the wood or anything serious. Happy to ship using UPS insured at buyers cost.

so working on past experience of 'handling fees' What would have cost £1000 is now £1210 (assuming a 10 handling fee) worth noting bearing in mind there are french/spanish and sometime Italian sellers on the forum. Good chat thanks.
-
So the status seems to be, no import duty for non business transactions, but VAT will be charged locally, probably paid by the courier who will add a handling charge based upon the value of the item, if its more expensive than £135.
-
from the go interesting section from this reads.. The changes will not apply to consignments of goods containing excise goods or to non- commercial transactions between private individuals. Existing rules will continue to apply for these transactions. does that mean no import tax?
-
Just trying to see where the additional costs land, and getting a feel for what to say should a EU based buyer might expect, or alternatively what I might expect on top of a EU based purchase.
-
Interesting, So effectively Uk VAT and import duty may now be a separate component, and possibly incur courier handling fees and I am guessing the same the applies for the EU countries. I guess we'll properly know when someone completes a transaction.
-
ok calm down, its not a right /wrongs about BREXIt post.. So, have seen folks on the EU side of things selling stuff, what exactly has changed? Seen a bunch of comments and cost of shipping a bass to say..France were: Cost of shipping + insurance. Now Cost of shipping + (20% VAT on shipping cost) + insurance plus buyer pays import on it? And in reverse before: Cost of shipping +insurance no surcharges Now Cost of shipping +20% +import duties?? Is that correct?? does anyone have any real facts on it (as opposed to general opinions) If that is correct a £500 bass turn into probably about £100 or so more with additional vat and import duties?
