So, just how many basses do you own ????
BaggyMan replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
I have owned over 200 basses since 1980, some stay a long time others no so much. Current stable Zemaitis fretless (1989) Ibanez sr1405 Sterling by Musicman Ray 34 Sterling Sub 4 Warwick Thumb 4 string (2010) P bass bitsa J bass Bitsa Wow thats the least number I have had in ages. (and two are up for sale as well.). Getting old I guess. -
Hi NOW £700 save 100s on list price... Here is a 'brand new' limited edition transparent black Ibanez SR 1405 in the limited edition transparent black finish. Spec is: · premium tonewoods · Atlas-5 wenge/bubinga neck · Mahogany body topped with flame maple · Mono-rail bridge, grover machines · Nordstrand Big Single pickups · Custom 3-band EQ Its was new Nov, 2018 but hasn't been gigged, comes with case and case candy, unmarked. Literally as new. I have changed the strings to Warwick reds, and using Warwick finishing wax on the back of the neck improving the already excellent playability. Its perfect, absolutely nothing wrong with it other than I have lost the love for five strings, and its too good to sit around. List on these is £1145, best price is £999 that I can find, for grab yourself a brand new shiny, for less money.

Having been a rather enthusiastic proponent of the art of G.A.S (something like 200 guitars in 30 something years..) I have sometimes wondered why some models of bass just fade away or worse replaced by something uglier/cheaper/nastier. Main transgressor in my book is Yamaha. The BB series soldiers on but in my eyes at least, the 424x, 1024x, 20214x (and the five stringers) were blooming lovely, designed down to the nicest detail. The replacements? meh. And more strangely the Attitude bass range. The Billy Sheehan is the only one left but with a huge price tag. I am sure a modern version of the attitude would sell. Any models you feel makers have consigned to history should get a second chance??

wow I even pointed the mis-spell out around page 2 or 3

welcome to page 4

club exotica (spelled correctly now..) where the seediest of bass players can ply their dark trade using implements of pornographic intensity...is that a gaylord I see?..yes it is sonny, yes it is.

do I get the prize for the most random thread yet?

In my ongoing quest to get the stable down to a reasonable level, and my move away from 5 stringers (I bet I will be back ...), I present ladies and gents this lovely Warwick Corvette 5 string German build. Ash bodied, Wenge neck, two band EQ with pickup sweep and volume control, total gig monster, good tone at any setting. Its a Warwick, so expect quality! All brightwork in good condition, no wear, few signs of use really. Small bodied, light and comfy. No fret wear (bell brass frets) just been cleaned , re-waxed, re-strung. Will come with the correct Warwick strap locks. Collection from Rochester or hand over in London (canary wharf through to anything on the circle line within reason). Or can post at buyers expense.

Its getting hard to get the whitworth standard af truss rods these days...a dying breed.

Today I have learned many things. The good folk of said bass chat are satisfyingly deranged, opinionated and probably nice people to drink beer and break stuff with I also have a fairly well fleshed out business plan (apart from funding, premises, design, talent..) to establish a guitar company who first product willl be the aforementioned mythical beast that is the shitenbacker banana boat gaylord. We should have a competition, and design it by committee, what could go wrong eh? Oh yeah and something to do with p basses and that.
-
Haha the p bass format I went for was with a jazz neck, and I also have built a Jazz, and have a Lakland jazz. As for the Shitenbacker the Mk1 are quite collectable these days
-
ill put you name into the free draw for the Shitenbacker Bananaboat Gaylord IV

oh i wasn't going for the hate/love p bass thread, far from it, i was musing over the ever changing market when one day the massively complicated exotique wooded through neck style is king then the collective morph over to simplicity (and then I guess creep back again. ) Don't get me wrong I have owned pretty much every type of bass 'cept gibson (just dont like 'em, trendy or not) or any of the the uber expensive makes.

Seen this comment come up on a number of bass themed youtube videos. The P bass is the bass is now the bass of choice. Seems that conventional wisdom is now that after 'all these years' that good ol' Leo hit the nail firmly on the noggin. The p bass sits sonically at the best place in the mix cutting through where other basses fail. Now I have owned many, many .....many basses and they all have their character, good n bad points and most recently started building bits basses up out of choice parts. What model ? first one was a Jazz next three..p basses. A few years ago seemed that the active bass was king, ever more elaborate tone shaping designs to define the nuance of the very soul of your sound. But is it me or is the elaborate, complex, bass becoming niche? So, what has changed?? why is the p bass, possible only through electrification more complicated than a stick, suddenly in the zeitgeist?

dumbass delivery award this week? Parcelforce
BaggyMan replied to BaggyMan's topic in General Discussion
I have used Parcelfarce through Interparcel who are chasing them...lets see who blinks first.. -
They appeared to have attempted delivery and the recipient wasn't there, signed for it themselves (isnt that some kind of fraudulent activity..) and marked it as delivered. The recipient returned home to find a note saying that the parcel (which is of course a cardboard box at least 4 feet long) was left behind the dustbins. Where in any delivery agreement does it state that packages will be self signed and abandoned?. This was obviously visible as it has now completely disappeared. Parcelforce have a lot to answer to here. Its could be that they never left it at all and its back in a depot someplace. Whatever their reasons none excuse these actions. Frankly I am shocked by the situation as it stands. I can only hope it 'turns up' with a search at their depot. Anyone sees a Vester clipper, with some light mods out there flag it please..its nicked.

Lakland skyline J type bass £675 Rochester, Medway Perfect in every way, just had a restring, fret polish and oiled neck. New these are just over a grand so under £700 for one that's perfect is a deal. I have the original scratchplate which was a bit non so took it off to reveal the best of the sunburst imho. Cant say enough good things about it and cant think of anything bad..10/10 Can ship at buyers expense or pick up either in Rochester Kent (or try out here also) or handover in London (where I work). Will consider part px or price appropriate swaps if that helps. p.s I am a private seller and having a major clearout of basses i case you were wondering..

5 string bass from Maruszczyk. In excellent condition. Its a 'super Jazz' brilliantly lightweight, massive tonal pallette.
