  1. Hi slightly off message. what did you do with the old pickups..and would they be for sale if available??
  2. Not that I can afford it...but how much is it going for, I have no idea how much these go for 2nd hand
  3. Just found this tech spiel it is a bass designed by Brian Bromberg and made by Peavey for a few years. I believe the B Quads (they also made a 4 string) are the finest and most expensive basses Peavey has ever made. The neck is graphite and made for Peavey by Modulus. It has two VFL pickups (neck and bridge) plus piezo pickups in the bridge saddles. The bass features optional stereo output. The switch controls Mono vs Stereo output. And it has 2 output jacks, for when you want to use Stereo. The 2 magnetic pickups (the VFLs) output equally to both L and R in Stereo, but each Piezo pickup has an individual Pan pot (and Gain trim pot) that can be accessed through the control cavity cover on the backup. Those Pan pots let you adjust each string to be panned however much you want to whichever side you want. I never use it this way, myself. I just set the Pan pots to all centered, so the bass sounds the same whether it's in Mono or Stereo mode. The controls include a Master volume, individual volume controls (stacked) for each VFL pickup, and a separate volume control for the Piezo pickups. There's a 2-band boost/cut EQ (stacked, bass/treble) for the VFLs. And there's a Passive Tone control for the Piezos. The sound is just flat-out incredible. Peavey VFL pickups (as are used in the Cirrus line) are known to be fantastic. But then the piezos add another dimension - some warmth, to my ear - that just takes the Cirrus sound up a level. The neck is the Modulus graphite neck. You can get action that is so low.
  4. they weren't around for long as far as i know. Intriguing bit of kit..
  5. For years i have seen the odd photo of the carbon fibre necked b quad bass. Looks fabulous, anyone tried one? opinions?? i am intrigued because they are rarer than a rare thing, and i have tried many a fabulous bass but never even physically seen one of these, let alone tried one out.
  6. if i see anything about i'll flag it up. Cheers

  11. No, it was a straight fit, all you have to do is make sure you have the correct version of scratchplate, 11 hole, 15 hole whatever.

  13. Will entertain offers on swaps perhaps......

  15. The MM has a very good defined sound courtesy of the pre-amp. all single coil Jazzes suffer to a greater or lesser extent from the old 60hz noise. And sire are no exception The nordstrand are hum canceling and are great in their own right, tonally richer (as they should be at the price) and very quiet. Overall they don't change the character of the bass, just improves what it does well already.
  16. No leading edge musician does 100% brilliant. They define technique, place it in songs and at points amaze and at others bore/annoy. Victor Wooten for example..re-tuning mid play...really? Jaco was a pioneer of the fretless technique.. I have 'the album' and have even tried learning portrait of tracy but in the end, only to learn the technique. A lot of the album is very dated and actually not that well engineered. All techniques have a place (please note anyone who thinks slap, or hammer on or....is the be all and end all..) but in the end its the context and song that people listen to. Technique in the end is a tool, feel, groove and context etc is where its at.
  17. In series of ‘murder your darlings’ sweep of my bass collection I am cutting down the number of wonderful basses I have. Some of them relatively recent acquisitions… my main objective is ..downsizing my storage, so need the space… All my basses are well set up and play great, no issues and in most cases are near perfect or only have age related dings. So here is #3: Tobacco S/B VM squire Jazz bass. (Indonesian build 2012) I only bought this a short time ago, had to drive a decent distance to get it. Have serviced it ( polish, fretboard clean and fret polish, new strings.) New fender tortoishell scratchplate ( I had a new one kicking around and its was a better tort imho). Have also added CTS pots. Lovely bass, nice slim neck, Duncan designed pickups. The VM range is quite a step up from the affinity series (which is actually very good at the price point it has to be said). Virtually Unmarked, basically as new (couple of usage marks on the bell plate) Priced to sell (and recover my outlays..) and you'll save about £100 on new.

Some of them relatively recent acquisitions… my main objective is ..downsizing my storage, so need the space… All my basses are well set up and play great, no issues and in most cases are near perfect or only have age related dings. It's in perfect condition and has the added huzzah of Nordstrand pickups, so no 60hz noisiness. I bought this quite recently, but haven't gigged it so perfect. Added: Its Ash bodied, with a maple neck (white tort block markers) Just weighed it again and the bathroom scales say 11lb Buyer pays shipping, I use UPS insured, so expect about £30 - £35 approx...depends where you are etc. May consider part trades with cash either way. Warwick corvette 5, darkglass amps (500 or 900), G&L JB-5.. a non reliced P bass...c'mon lets talk..

So Here is my USA build S.U.B (stingray) bass. A sought after version of the S.U.B bass range. The Grandaddy of them all and easily the best, US build, US hardware and electronics, the rugged petrol blue paintjob peculiar to this range, black painted neck, in very good condition for its age (I think its a 2003 build year.) Slab cut body., replacement scratchplate and as cool as it gets. The necks can be quite a battering on these, this one is nigh on perfect which is rare indeed. A couple of body dings, but nothing serious. Its a slab bodied USA stingray by any other name and for this price..a bargain.
  20. I owned a TRB Mk1 (the one with the slap scoop) had it as my main ride for over a decade, changed amp and it all sounded rubbish ...blamed the 'old bass' and stupidly sold it. The amp was the problem d'oh Damnit One of the best basses i have ever owned (and that's in excess of 150..) still look out for one, they are very rare.
  21. Quality 5 stringer at less than Squier money...whats not to like?
