1. But they're made of hard maple, are they not? Often too heavy for me. I've seen the youtube demos and they do sound superb for the tone they aim to achieve.
2.
The love of my life My MIM (yes, MIM) FSR P Bass Special in Matt Black.
I'm so envious. I wish mine was Matt.
3. There ought to be workshops that you can rent out and make instruments in. It looks like a lot of hard work, but not something that's impossible. Just my kind of thing. Great value for money, this. I hope to have a go one day.
4. Is the fretboard Brazilian rosewood? It's very dark (and that's a very good thing). And that bridge is hot. +1 on the bass looking awesome, great job!

Right, done. http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:industry:sound_sample_links I don't know how to put gaps in, though. Like <p> in html.

I've seen pup comparisons sites, this sort of thing. But have yet to see something for Precisions with a wide range of models. Do they just not exist? It's a shame, it makes for great reference and it will help a lot of people out. If I ever play about with pups, I'll definitely record some samples. I'll get that link on the wiki somehow.
7.
70's Fender, anyone? *dons flame suit*
definitely man basses (no good for my girly fingers), but a '70s P I saw on the OGWhistle Test was the most powerful bass tone I've heard as yet. So, yea, I probably agree with you.
8.
I'd agree....
I wasn't talking about the description, only his situation as a new member (in reply to moe). The 'coverage' line was silly and irrelevant as I don't think the misrepresentation of the bass was intentional; it was just an idea for some potential covert marketing - the number of posts on this thread shows this in action. I don't disagree with any of your post. Although, as I said, I'm (personally) happy with new people selling when it's cash on collection items. As I suggested, I think community and introduction etiquette derives from the worry of sending money online. Many people will probably forget that connection, but I think cash on collection should bypass concerns considering it seems he just wants to shift the bass.
9. Not convinced on fretless, yet, myself. I think the umph provided by frets are so important for rhythm and definition. I'd only want that open tone in jazz and ambient music (Eberhard Weber sort of thing); and there, upright is king.
10. It gets a bad rep', but I miss my Hondo II (Ric copy). My first bass, a short-scale Kay EB-0 copy, had a lovely earthy, muddy tone. 'Crap' basses tend to have a lot of character. I've yet to play a Stagg or Encore that didn't make me excruciatingly angry. I think it's immoral to sell such bad beginner basses. Luckily today's Yammahas and Peaveys are making up for it.
11. It is a year older than I, but has aged far more gracefully. Although, I was probably the result of a 10 minute mattress romp rather than the love child of meticulous German craftsmen.

You see, I would just say, "Whatever sounds best for Motown." But I would have thought the vintage Fender pups I've got are a sensible choice as they're basically a reissue of what Jamerson used. Getting the right tone is such a challenge. I think it just takes years of trying many basses and finding out what woods/electronics work right for you. That's unless you're happy with what you've got. Which I think I am. I'm thinking, screw ~£100 on pj pups, some Radial gizmo will probably do a lot more to warm up the tone. A Fender costs enough in the first place. I think it's cool for a Warmoth build/custom bass, but doesn't make a lot of sense elsewhere.
13. Yes, it certainly will. Get yourself a little Roland Cube, you'll definitely be more excited about picking up your bass.
14.
...One or two...
He's given a contact number, price, pictures and requests pick up. I think most people have a problem with new members selling basses because of the perceived security risk. This add seems very safe to me. He wants to shift the bass, I don't think intros etc. need be a concern when you're not dealing in paypal/shipping. Clearly a misrepresenting description and controversial status provide good coverage.
15. Get a jazz, P or MM. Stay away from the porn and market sections. Kick some bassy tush.
16. Congratulations on the getting married, Mark. Sounds like it's going to be a helluva trip!
17.
Whenever I listen to "Chained" by Marvin Gaye, I just laugh out loud. There is no way my sausage fingers will be able to blunder through that without sounding, well.... cr*p.
A lovely tone on that track. Great song too.

Hi all

Welcome Chumba. Yamaha is, indeed, a good place to start. I think you'll enjoy the bassy journey.
20. I had no idea this bass existed. Wish I could give it a play. Bump, though. What are the controls?
21. The beauty of simplicity. Basses needn't be more complicated than that.
22. So that's what pickguards are for.
23. I think they're cool as long as people use them for what they're meant to be used for, and respect the materials that were sacrificed to make the basses. Use a bass like a comfy pair of trainers, not the gym membership.

I'm waiting for someone to compare Wizards with Fralins. At the minute, if I were to have one custom P, I would fork the extra £100 odd for Fralins.
25. Welcome Zak. I'd say your gear is good enough quality .
