1. I had this problem. I think a lot of it is about fretboard/scale knowledge and having a learnt left hand. As in: you've practiced so much it just knows where to go. Practicing walking bass lines and looking at jazz theory helped me.
2. My local has an awesomely huge soul book. I used to also get piano music to help with notation. So not really 'active', but a useful resource.
3. Congrats! It is very 'aww'. What an interesting bass. It's like if I went into a car showroom that had modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis and then in the corner there's a little Standard Pennant or old Fiat 500; I wouldn't spend two seconds near the supercars. That was badly put but you get the point. Cool bass!
4. Has anyone ever done one of these with three pups - another at the neck? MAD. If I had a wife I'd let her deny me three basses, any more and I'd have to reconsider which is worth having.
5. If I haven't mentioned this already - find out the weight if it might be a concern. I reckon their signature basses are the best around.
6.
Right now, this: I'm in love.
- The original bass package! It's gone down hill ever since.
7.
You mark my words. The sellers market will soon turn to a buyers one. Give it some time...
I've been watching this car for some time. It has been relisted for months trying to achieve £3,500.
8. Are you in America/outside UK? MMs and Corvettes are quality and versatile basses. Watch out for the weight on the Corvette, though. When it comes to active basses you've got loads of choice. Just pick a price range, new or used and I'm sure a healthy list of basses to try will emerge. Of course a nice jazz is a good place to start as well. Active is not my forte but MM, Warwick, G&L, jazz deluxe... seem to be the regularly heard names. Best of luck! Will pop back to see how it goes.
9.
a question: Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the skinnier Precision necks that feel like Jazz ones are 'A' style? My CIJ P neck feels very close to the skinniness (is that even a word? lol) of my Fender Jazz neck. It is described as an 'A' neck profile.
I haven't got a clue when it comes to neck shapes. The '62 RI P I had a wide nut width and a flattened back (of the neck). I recently played a standard modern Mexican P and the neck was almost as thin as jazz neck. If I hadn't seen it hanging on the wall to visually compare it to jazzes I would have thought it was a jazz neck. Baffles me, frustratingly so. It's so important.
10. Thanks for the quick and detailed responses. There's no way I can afford or need one of these right now so you don't have to worry about me being sheepish . Just a thought for something to look out for second hand in half-a-dozen years or so. I think it's topped the American p/j Bob Glaub by a smidgen. I do like a neck a little chunkier than a jazz but not as wide nutted as an old Precision (the Sandberg looks great!). And I don't mind a little substance in my hands (does that sound gay? ) Anyway, a very cool bass. n1, NJW. Any chance of sound clips?
11. This thread is turning out to be unexpectedly amusing 'UNKNOWN SOLDIER' Thought I'd try again: Did any of the Japanese makes do a nice looking and sounding (long-scale) EB-3 copy in mahogany?
12.
Corvette. My $$ took a while to get used to.I had to move the rear strap button up to get it to hang comfortably.
I do like a Corvette when double bucked. Joint second in that case when in a dark reddy wood.
13. I've yet to play a bass without fret markers. Has it ever caused anyone any fuss? Oh, and how much do these weigh? sorry for all the questions
14.
I think these are about £1k A few pictures here - http://www.station-music.de/bass/sandberg.html Hamster
Not a bad price considering there's the option of a an active MM and passive precision pup. New goal for paul, perhaps. -Cheers for the link Hamster!
15. paul, the

Funk clip

These are awesome!
16. I think that would be cool if it's not too much trouble. I'd have a go at a couple, personally.
17.
I'm confused about APC's charges. I can't find anywhere where I can find a quote. Would I be better to phone the nearest depot to find out how much it'll cost? It's Peavey combo that weighs roughly 40kg.
Sorry for the late response. I'm sure you've got this sorted by now but with APC you just give them a ring. Make sure you have the details ready:- ie weight and volumetric weight. Link to work it out: http://www.apc-overnight.com/information.php Let us now how it goes/how it went.
18. Those are some stunning photos! And 50 bids Best of luck with the auction.
19.
it deals in depth with the relationships between different scales and chords, including substitutions and other kinds of reharmonization.
Sounds brilliant. There is a recommended books thread somewhere isn't there?
20. How much does a cheap, acceptable bow cost?
21. I love the "A Day In The Life" tone. A beautiful thud. As for Jamerson. That's the ultimate goal. The tone I have dreams about, the tone takes me on mystical journeys of bassy goodness.
