1.
"Prevent movement of items in transit"
What does that mean with regards to insurance? If you help me get it back OG, I'll give it to a charity of your choosing. I'll have to declare myself royally screwed over if I'm going to forgive myself though. I used the PF site, not senditnow.
 2. How did I miss this thread? That's a lovely shaped body you've got there OG. This bass doesn't look bad neither. --
The first one? The first one????????????????? Don't think I don't know what's going on here Old Git and Tinman the pair of yous are now officially under increased surveillance
ha ha, you're married to a bassist. oh noes...
 3.
There isn't 'a budget' for the restoration - whatever it costs to get it done right. The only thing I baulked at buying was an original set of stack knobs & pots (the only original part I'm missing) - they went for $2,500 on eBay. That was just too much!!
Sounds like a wise blind eye to me
 4. Do you think "ParcelFarce" would be unprofessional? updated
 5.
Well I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong! It appears that my defense of 'senditnow.com' and their level of insurance cover has been misinformed and mis sold! I rang them several months ago when I was in my Mustaffah Fender phase and I was buying and selling basses to fund my latest folly. They stated that basses/guitars were covered but the case in which they were shipped was not (fair does) and if I took out extra insurance of course the instrument would be insured but not the case as it was considered packaging. I subsequently received/sent at least 3 expensive instruments through them. In the process of my latest 'want' I thought I'd look at this sticky and weigh up options, I rang Sendit just to double check the cover and lo and behold even though the exclusions still just lists the case as not covered I was informed that even if I took out extra insurance I'd not be covered for more than the basic £150! 'Since when?' I asked, 'About the last 6 months', during the period I was using them. The robbing tw*ts have taken the extra premium from me for inflated cover even though I'd not be covered. Nowhere does it say that if you take out extra cover (which is offered n the booking process) will you not be covered for musical instruments. Needless to say I'll be submitting a claim for a refund of the monies paid for cover that wasn't applicable and I'll be submitting a complaint to the appropriate ombudsman. From my experience with the shiftless chiselers I'd recommend steering well clear. -1 (or more) for 'senditnow'/ParcelForce
I lost £45 in insurance money on a bass with Parcel Force. I (wrongfully I guess) assumed that when I paid for full cover I would get full cover. I'm normally a stickler for T&Cs so I deserve it in my opinion. Still, £45 needlessly gone into someone elses pocket. SenditNow will be up with -1 in a jiffy.
 6. I had no idea what a bass was before I started. I remember looking puzzled at the You Can Call Me All video though. first bass - Kay first song - Rock around the clock.
 7.
Keeps me off the streets! You never know, one day therell be the genuine '57 that no one will touch 'cos they all think it's a con! This guy's 10 miles away so if he replies I'm going! Chris
If the guy lived next door and doesn't mind letting me at it with a screw driver set whilst he completes a polygraph test then fair enough.
I think it's a bit further than 10 miles from Canterbury to Ashford, Middlesex.
The ebay distance thing can be dodgy sometimes. Often when it says it's 50 miles away it's actually 75.
But it's taken a huge amount of work & effort & expense to get it restored faithfully! And it's not finished yet.
Are you keeping track of the cost Jim?
 8.

You have to describe to me how that sounds.
 9.
Finally, the bass is on his way to me! I'll show you a photo of it with his red twin (the one in my avatar) as soon as it arrives
Great news alchemy! Looking forward to the pics. Hope you had a great birthday, paul.
 10. He hasn't got any feedback (as mentioned). I'd have trouble giving more than £4 to someone without feedback, regardless of what's being sold. Why do you acknowledge these basses Chris?
 11.
Don't remember seeing him in Lord Of The Rings... ...was he in Arwen's wedding scene? "O no, for he is the frumpy ugly one for whom magical surgery cannot make perfect and lithely thighed like the rest of us. He is usually hidden in the kitchen and we do not talk about him."
What's that Arwen? Nothing to say. Arwen's vacant expression and dilated pupils suggest she has dabbled in one of Herby Elf's tasty pastry treats. Hugo Weaving is not impressed. (Hugo Weaving is never impressed)
 12. Herby Elf says, "Welcome Friend! Wont you try my pastry treats?"
 13. Welcome to Basschat Paul, you needn't be bassist with an introduction like that! Thinking of joining the team?
 14.
EDIT: I've just been in the introductions thread, and i've seen you're in Texas.
Texas eh? I wonder if they ride horses to school there.. -- Sexy thumbs
 15. I really like the headstock design on this. Great stuff!
 16.
I owned the very 55-01 you are talking about, Alan; it's one of those instruments that has really done the rounds on Bassworld/Basschat and everyone has loved it but it doesn't seen to have found a permanent home. For me it got me into 5 strings and totally turned me on to Laklands. And here she is with some of her friends in a room that no longer looks like that, thank goodness.
What's the bass to the left Sean? and sexy yammy acoustic.
 17. Oh and apologies for my playing, complete lack of rhythm and my foot tapping in the second last track.
Paul - have you tried posting on the forum at http://www.vintagekustom.com/ ??? All the best Jim
I had completely forgotten about the forum on there, thanks Jim! The speaker doesn't have an aluminum dust cap so I don't think it's stock. As I presume the CTS and Altec both had the alu' cap - but I could be wrong. The amp was designed to take an 8 ohm driver.
 18. Done - Right, this is done as cheaply as possible, but I'm pleased with the results. It may distort at higher volumes. All files were recorded with my passive Precision Special strung with (roundwound) DR Lo-Riders. The Motown with foam by the bridge. No effects were used, I've just mic'd up the relevant speaker with the EQ on full bass, full middle, half treble. Here we go: These are recorded with foam by the bridge, Precision pup at 100% and Jazz bridge pup at %80 Kustom Stock - Motown Peavey 18 - Motown I prefer the stock speaker for a Jamerson-esque tone. It's warm, soft tone complements the style. Whereas, the Peavey 18 is too punchy and growly. ---- These are a couple of tracks with me just noodling around Dmix' - Precision pup at %80 and the jazz bridge pup at %100: 15 18 - Of these two tracks I prefer the tone of the 18. It's mid-range punch and growl complement the jazz bridge pup.
 19. With APC you'll probably be quoted on Volumetric Weight rather than the bass's actual weight. The Volumetric Weight will be around 12 or 13 (a guess) whereas the bass will weigh far less then that. What's the situation? Because you'll really need the dimensions of the outer box. Once you have that, give them a ring.
 20. Right, I've recorded some tracks. I'll spend the next however long it takes to get these hosted and linked. Tone? = Vintage funk, Jamerson, GPjr, early Bootsy. I play a vintage loaded Precision Special. (p/j) I've been enjoying this recently. Undefined and woofy.
 21. Oh, I think I may prefer the look of that to the regular SUB. How does the neck compare to a Jazz?
 22. I just love it when people make a bass their own. So many bassists leave their bass stock and sterile. This, I love.
 23. That's a very glossy fretboard. Welcome to BC!
