1.
See the "sticky/pinned topic" at the top of this forum for info on BadAss bridges
Cheers BOD2. I navigate via 'View New Posts' so I rarely view the stickeys. I assumed there wouldn't be one on badasses. Foolishly so, obviously.
2. I've never played a Warwick. That's right. Ever.
3. Long shot; are there any soundclips on't' net that you know of?
4. Oh, great price. If you threw in a double bass I'd take it in a flash.
5. What I find interesting is valves with speakers. Surely a transistor amp starts clipping before it's using its full wattage - have modern speaker specifications changed to cater for this? Sorry if this is a silly question.
6. You could always keep an eye out for replacement speakers if you're turning the volume up. You see them coming up in pairs sometimes on ebay.
7. The neck on my Samick is a much nicer shape than my jazz neck. Having said that, my hand catches on the nut and the fingerboard is horrible (could just be dirt). I could probably get all these things sorted but I really don't think the guitar is worth it. -- Yes, you could probably buy some decent quality parts cheap and put them together with a nice piece of wood and come away with a professional instrument. But the hassle of visiting luthiers and making mistakes with hardware is a real pain. Plus, if it's your only bass you're modding you could be left for a long time bassless. It would be interesting to see whether anyone has a seriously good instrument that is somewhat custom in terms of playability and feel without the bank balance imploding.
8. It's just like mine but better looking. If you want to save £400 over a hot-roded P, I'd plump for one of these! --- The bass uses vintage Fender pups by the way.
9. Are all your VMJs in the 11lb range?
10. Welcome Jim Bob, lovely to have you here.
11. BDI 21 is awesome in a figurative faux valve kind of way. One of my best buys ever.
12. Well, they've just got that look about them. And an uncluttered past without stereotype. Looks wise, they're one of the only basses I couldn't wiggle out a problem with in a modern setting. They're just very well designed, it'll be interesting to see whether they become dated. Time will tell.
13. I would wait until something as fun as this comes up again.
14. There's a gap in the market there me thinks.
15. Cheers Steve, I'd leave the stock pups in. They're one of the reasons why the bass is so revered. Covers are the difference between me going: "Oh, that's nice!" and: the paul's heartbeat started to pound deep and fast like a metal bassist through an Ampeg rig. His palms became sweaty and he felt a cool rush of blood to his head. Collapsed on the floor, the paul laid motionless and void. That is, except for the enduring and majestic smile that had been emblazoned upon his face. The women's Brazilian football team shower room in use casts a similar spell.
16.
John's happy the way he is..... he's got more than enough demand for his instruments as a 1 man band, there are ofcourse other obvious reasons why he's not looking for mass exposure...... a certain well known USA guitar manufacturer for example ! Those who know..... know...
Why would Carvin have a problem with him making Fender rep's? ...ohhh --- Lovely bass, the stacked knobs are a bit too '50s pick-up for me. You ought to get some soundclips up. What sort of pickups are used?
17. I know this has been mentioned upteen times before (so sorry) but while this thread is active:

what badass (if any) do you have to screw extra holes for?
What are the differences between the different badasses?
How expensive are they used/new?
Will they complement a vintage tone?
Thanks guys and gals! (sorry for temporarily hijacking your thread) paul.
Covers: For me they completely obscure two out the the three best positions for picking so I wouldn't even think about fitting them. I find the fascination with these things (and their vintage 'authenticity') somewhat amusing esspecially since anyone with any nous in the 70s was taking them of to improve the instrument's playability.
It's all about looks and foam. They just add a certain charm that can elevate your bass into a higher class. If it really upsets your tone then I'd leave them off. (If you like to pay over the pickups, as many do, don't consider them).
18. Aww bunny ears. That's beautiful. One of the best I've seen methinks.
19.
So your Dad owns a boat - no reason to be embarassed - hope he enjoys it. I know I would. Good luck with the sale and hope the gearbox does not prove too expensive to repair.
Cheers woolleydick, I just didn't want anyone stereotyping a yacht owner. And he loves it to bits. I've stuck a nice neck on a strat clone and now that plays like a dream (and looks the part ) he's also bought a PRS copy with nice pickups so he's quite happy guitar wise and has saved a lot of dough. Thanks for the comment, unexpected and highly appreciated. paul.
20. Why oh why don't we see more awesome colours like this? Lovely bass Neil.
21. A lot of reviews make out their gear to be pretty mediocre - lots of 6s and 7s. From the clips I've heard, I've never been overly impressed with their guitars. Except for the piccolo bass on Ed Friedland's site. I've heard reliability issues with some of the heads as well. On the plus note, I can't think of many (if any) other manufacturers that make a smart looking cab/combo for reasonable money.
22. I'm surprised at the solo and extreme recom's - play what they want to hear and expect you to play: walking, 2 feel, the different approaches and fluidity over different chord sequences. If you can; show off with a (non-too showy) short, melodic solo that is at least seemingly improvised -- that ought to portray passion, improvisation skills and room for progression. When/If you get the gig, you can start exploring innovation and creativity if the band allows for it. Not everyone has weather report behind them though. And get a really cool hat.
