It sounds like the tone from 'Pyramides' (sic) by Incognito - which is something I go for with my funk band often. The Passion nails it of course ;0) pedster
http://sondebasse.c.la/
  2.
I can play some. It's a very demanding style and I took lessons in it for a few months, but I just don't have the time for it any more. Check out this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbqkO7kp-KQ
Most awesome. It's all about the rhythm for me, I love that strumming. Have you seen these videos? I think there's three of them. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QD0dtjEVSPI gj makes me type faster!
  3.
Will do Dave - I think it'll be on the floor tonight. The place we're playing has a stone floor and walls and it's a long narrow room that's just wide enough for guitar, bass and drums. A bit of a challenging debut methinks. Anyway, I played it quite loudly at home yesterday afternoon and I couldn't get over the fact that for the first time, my Stingray actually sounded like a Stingray. Looking forward to tonight.
Have you played through an Epifani t-212? (sorry to be off topic).
  4.
Aye matey, I was lucky to have sold both my Bacchus basses without lsing mush on them, so I put a deposit down on this and with a little help from loved ones (even more so now!) I snapped it up before she disappeared. Straight and narrow now though mate, nothing else does it for me any more ;0) (Just keep repeating that ped) Cheers! ped And yes Tom Mr. Shuker owes you big time!
Fair doos. That's a few Vigiers. Nothing like a Frech orgy. Great tone.
  5.
The thing is - even with sound clips it still wont sound the same when its on your bass played through your rig using your fingers.
You're right, of course not. But it's a start. Of course the best thing would be a comprehensive archive of pickup samples with standard equipment variables but it's a lot to ask. Basstasters is great but there isn't a lot on there. I definitely think pickup/cab/preamp makers should lend their creations out to them if they are confident in their products. Sales would soar as the site gains popularity also.
  6. I thin it's the pickup companys' responsibility to supply sound clip. I spent so long raving about Fralins. I recently listened to the Bob Glaub on basstasters expecting a stunning a Jamerson tone. Was left disappointed. Where am I left; too scared to ever spend the money.
  7.
You can rib him for bein musically crap or whatever but does get the crowd goin you gotta admit.. although I spose so do McFly
That was brilliant.
  8.
Big Fat funky Bootsy sound - any recommendations for the best pedal for that funk thing? Thanks!
Bootsy has been through at least 4 stages of tone. You'll have to be more specific. The Houseguests tone was my favourite of course.

    hello
Hello there, been playing bass for 30 yrs current equipment LH Musicman Stingray, Tobias pro-lefty4 and GK MB150 small rig.... not in a band at the moment ... having a sabbatical
That sounds like some very efficient gear. I bet you've got the leash on GAS. BC will soon change that 'elcome.
  10. I thought you were in abject poverty or has this been explained somewhere?
  11.
Pete, Swapping pups is normally about getting a particular sound... (Thats why I do it anyhoo!) I have an idea how I want it to sound and get pups accordingly...... Funnily enough, I cannot pick any fault at all with the std PRS setup. They are just awesome with a HUGE variety of tone..... Maybe I'm trying to get lesser basses to sound like them? I have one spare SD 1/4lber that you can drop in if you want...? Just a thought why not just play the new Jazz for a while and see if its deficient in tone anywhere, and then target that with new pups?
This is wonderfully ideal but I have no idea how a certain pickup will sound. And certainly cannot afford to chop and change. You sometimes get descriptions but it's hardly the same.
  12. Sounds bo-lakes to me. Japanese* (had to).
  13. I get TAS = Tone Acquisition Syndrome. I've never bought an instrument just because I've liked the look of it or the idea of it. I lust for a nice tone and will happily buy a bass if it looks rubbish but sounds great. If my taste in tone was eclectic (which it isn't) then I would just stick to one all rounder bass in passive or active according to preference like a Jazz or Stingray for example. Amp/cab wise I have no emotional connection with them. Unless they've a tuck'n'roll Kustom, shiny Ampeg or an 18" speaker with a silver dust-cap. Besides that, I know an Epifani NYC 212 cab is going to sound lovely, but realistically, it's unfordable. As is a big TE valve head or pre.
  14. Mine are about the same length as yours and with a stretch I can play the first four frets of each string chromatically. I think I have improved with practice though as I used to 'jump around' a lot.
  15.
I'm a sax player by trade, currently playing in a Bristol based 14 piece funk, soul, blues band (www.bringdownthehouse.org)
I'll certainly be checking that out next time visit my brother. Welcome.
  16.
I also keep my bass angled diagonally upwards. It means I can play with less strain in the right and left hand. Still not got my technique "right" though to be honest.
It looks cool but I find this uncomfortable. Like my arm is supporting the bass rather than my shoulders. And I'm trying to play, not support a neck.
  17. It's 90f in here. I'll need a belt tomorrow.
  18. I have a P-special. No hum, plays fine. Funnily enough, the best place to go for a p/j isn't Fender. Perhaps you'll get some recommendations on here. Aerodyne?
  19. Original Although a good r'n'b/blues-rock cover band is something to marvel.
  20.
I'm 13, been playing bass for 6 months I have an ampeg 8x10 and an SVT 1000 I don't play in a band, I play in my basement. Mark Hoppus is like the gr8est bassist EVA omg rofl lol Victor who?
