I tried to buy a set from Stringbusters. The website said the item was in stock, four days later stringbusters said they didn't have any and that they would send a set in 7-8 weeks. I bought the strings on Ebay from the US and got them in two weeks at a cheaper price.
It is too much - you're right about that! I mean, that really awful looking Jazz, 3rd from left, with the block inlays and everything....It's just tooo much. We should just take it away now as an act of kindness....
You know me too well! Although a Jamerson Precision would fit in nicely.
Good man! Thought was just me who didn't get the vintage thing. I can see the eye candy appeal but the playability of old instruments is a bit of a battle. Each to his/her own though. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.
I don't like the look of new shiny basses, they lack soul and personality. Although, rather than buying a vintage bass, (appearance wise) I'd rather buy a relatively modern bass and muff it up personally over time, to show my dedication to the instrument. It's nice to know that it is your sweat stains running down to the bridge and your lamp shade that has put all those dings in the headstock. To be honest though, I don't really like the modern tone so I think taste in bass will be inadvertently highly swayed by your taste in music and your bass idols. - If you like Zender you probably have a Warwick and like a modern tone. If you like Jamerson, you probably have a Precision and like a vintage tone (and more likely to enjoy vintage instruments). Apart from the personality, character, mojo'd factor of a genuine vintage ruffed up bass, the bass tells a story of its life and what kind of person its player is.
'..it was completely un-slappable' OH NO! THE HUMANITY! Seriously, though - a 1977 Precision is not a yardstick to which all Fenders should be compared. As was mentioned above, though... pre-'74... now you're talking. You're welcome to prise these out of my cold, dead fingers:
Stop it... that picture...too much... can't breath. "OH NO! THE HUMANITY! "

A thumbs up for Bernie Goodfellow and EBS

Glad to hear it. There's someone who cares, it ought to be industry standard. -
You could try emailing the University.

I can't find it anywhere else online. You'll have to rely on someone recognising the book.
-
I want one too. If I'm realistic, I know I can't have one. I have expensive vintage taste. Yummy.
-
They come up every now and then. That should sell.

Age: 18 Passive Precision Special 4 string player. Motown/Soul. Would love to learn to walk on an upright and be able to play along to vintage jazz.
thought i'd throw in .. George Porter Junior from The Meters - some of those lines defined what we call funk playing these days.
Excellent taste.
Seriously, though, I'm on the look out for a medium scale (32") Aria, Cardinal series, right handed. If you come accross one, would be grateful if you let me know. Cheers, Frank
I'll be able to do that if no one else does. I'm not after one, but they'll turn up in my searches.

No Fender Precisions for sale anymore........
Hi Paul I was pretty excited myself . Pics tonight I hope. I'm gonna A-B the strings on this bass, which has a rosewood board. As far as I can tell so far the Daddario's have a uch fuller low end, but I'll get something more accurate later Chris
Ta, I have a rosewood fb also, so perfect. -- As mentioned in the other thread.. beaut'ful. -
Oh woof. That's gorgeous. Are you pleased with the tone?
How do you guys afford all this? For the first 9 years, I just had one $300 4-string MIM Fender Jazz Standard.
Some teens can come away with well over a grand after the summer hols these days. Then you hear about boutique instruments for Christmas and Birthdays Having said that, if I had kids; I would definitely fork out for a decent upright. That is to say I would invest in something very musically demanding.
Picked up the new bass this evening. '73 Precision in sunburst with JPUP added at the bridge (and added a very long time ago judging by the thumb wear in the finish just above it). To my eyes the sexiest bass I've seen in years and the best possible combination of vintage mojo with the right PUP combination. Haven't played it much so can't reort so far, but looking forward to setting it up with some nice flats tomorrow. Pics soon folks Pink PBass above still for sale. Offers? Chris
Oh woof! You've got me all excited now! When can we see some piccies? And can you still do the string comparison, or have you sold them all off with basses? maple neck? paul. -
Here's a warm welcome from a youngen'. Many happy postings.

New Luthiers wanting feedback on their first bass!
paul, the replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
+1 on the originality. If you're going to create an instrument, it may as well be your own design. +1 on the jazz horn looking silly. Although if it was more symmetrical, it might look too much like a Danelectro. -
Love that track! Did they ever do an LP?? Is it available on CD??
'Did they ever do an LP??' How many kidneys you gots? You can hear the full track on Funk Drops Vol.1 One of the best buys ever for me. It also has "Soul Machine" by The Meters, one of my top 5 Funk tracks. Glad you gave it a listen - more should do so if they know what's good for them! That's it, forced funk people.
BF's hot on the trail on this one Nik! If it works out I may have something quite impressive - in fact the bass I've been after for years - at the SE Bash next week. Certainly I'm gonna have to sell pretty much everything else I own bass-wise (and possibly the GF) to pay for it, but I think it'll be worth it. It'll be sad to lose Kylie, she's a great bass and a really versatile gigger, but, perhaps it's a bit like the Stiffler's Mum scenario in American Pie, the young 'uns might look sweet but the old 'uns have that something special Cheers Chris
This is intriguing. You're a Precision man, but once you've tasted the p/j....
