1. I'd love to get a thin nitro finish on my P-special. Anyone know anyone who does it? paul.
2.
Hello mate Funnily enough I have the TI Jazz flats on one Precision and have just put the above D'addarios on the other. One has a maple board the other r/wood so I'm going to A/B them in both combinations and see how they go. First impressions are howevere that the D'addarios are somewhat brighter, but given that they're new and I've only played them on the rosewood board that might not be conclusive. I'll keep you posted Chris
Thank you ever so muchly Chris! Please, take your time and have them played in for a fair comparison. Thanks again, paul.
3. My friend bought a Wesley acoustic bass from a friend for £30. It's real comfy to play and has a satisfactory tone for playing about the house.
4. Try a Hohner headless (still active). The Walnut stained ones are actually quite attractive. Or a hollowbodied or chambered bass.
5.
MB1. Heather Small????????????
Ahh a clever one, you've repressed the nineties.
6. Very Heather Small (M People) Cheers, I enjoyed that. P.S. I would totally be bold if I were female. There's still time.
7. How did I miss these?! Have you tried TI Jazz flats Chris? Assuming you have, please let me know what you think of the two different sets. I'll be getting a set of chromes or jflats soonish.
8.
In my experience, that's a bit strong - while it doesn't have the resonance of a real DB, I've been gigging for around six months now with the entry level NS WAV4 and the feedback I get is that it sounds like a DB amplified through a pickup when played pizzicato, and like a DB through a mic when played arco. For gigs when a drumkit is involved it does a damn good impression of a real DB, and I've even used it for a couple of classical works, with impressive results. As long as you stay away from the magnetic pickups and use the piezo only in "arco" mode, it shares many of the characteristics of a DB sound. If you use other combinations of pickups and the "pizz" setting, it will tend to sound like a large fretless bass. Using proper DB strings and proper DB technique also helps. I have a "free jazz" clip recorded 2 months or so after I received the NS; since then I've raised the height of the strings and improved my technique, so it sounds more like a DB now than it did when I recorded this clip; http://www.jenniferclarkbass.com/audio/BassSolo.mp3 Jennifer http://www.jenniferclarkbass.com
It sounds a bit restricted but very realistic (to my naive ears anyway). More so when fully accompanied. Much better than I had expected a EUB to sound.
9. Those Gibsons are scrummy. I love a personal collection. Despite them being worth a lot of money, he's done what he wants with them because they're all his. I should be so selfish.
10. Hey and welcome to Basschat. And welcome to the very select Precision Special club. I think there are four of us
11. He sounds like one big fisgusting duck. --- It's definitely time for the Calvin and Hobbes Winter Collection.
12.
OMG x 2 It's bliddy marvellous. I love this thing.. it's so warm'n'punchy'n'cliche-after-cliche. better than I hoped it would be, in fact. I love it. However... The fan is awry. It buzzes like a wasp looking for a kebab and a fight on a saturday night. I'll have to email Eden and find out what the crack is...
Love a (reasonably) happy ending. Congrats!
13. I've had a go on it. Very nice indeed. I wasn't as keyed in at the time, I just remember how nice it was of him to let people have a go on it.

Hello
Hiya paul - thanks fer the reply! Yeh Erik is a big mate of ours he is dead on it! The bas was DI'd fer the myspace recordings, the chaps are trying to convince me to mic up the 10" for our next recording citing the story bout the stranglers guy using a ripped speaker and it being part of their sound, giving it character n that, but I dunno, might sound a bit thin Cheers TTFN. Andrew.
Alright, I'm liking the Mex then. Very Nice. Give the mic up a try, what's the harm.
15. I haven't seen one within 50 miles of me for over a year. The first one has come up recently - it's 1/4 size though. It's silly, I'll never be able to afford one, not without selling all my electric gear. So there's risk there. It's just GAS, that's all it is. I can handle it, I've studied Buddhism
16.
Yeah i'm just really confused now as to whats for sale!! Si
CMI Jazz copy with EMGs and a maple block-inlaid CMI neck. I want it but can't afford it. I can understand the price though after mods and service. The teasing hurts my soul. -- Anyone know what the body wood is?

Hello

Erik Satie is your friend on Myspace! You've just elevated yourself to coolest person on the forum.

Hello

Hello Andrew cool band and cool gear! Bollocks to boutique kit, it sounds pretty good on your Myspace page. woofy. paul.
19.
as Paul, The said...but he slaps, very tastefully though: Juan Nelson:
Mighty Mighty. Although anyone who plays with Ben Harper is immediately cool.
20. Howdy Si, that Marshall sounds a beast.
21. pauls' are 'damage' and modest. --- You Londoners should all think yourselves lucky. The best basses I have available within a 30 mile radius are Mexican Fenders. And never below £400 used. Unless a Dean Edge Hammer is a good bass? Only £690
22.
AFAIK the guy has stopped making guitars and basses as custom orders. He just makes them now as a hobby and sells them when he's done. Luke Ward has one I believe, a Precision Bass, you can spy him on the Bravewood site with it if you look hard enough! I'd love one too myself, but sadly when I got in contact with them I was given the bad news!
He ought to start franchises.
23. I melt whenever I look on that site. His website deserves its own thread whether people are for or against replicas. I'm finding it very difficult not to post millions of pictures from the site.
24. Are you trying to tell us this is for sale?
25.
But one of my favourite fretless parts every is Bakithi Khumalo's line on 'You can call me al' by Paul Simon.
You can play that? The main two part riff is simple enough. Then you listen to what Khumalo plays
