I've heard many basslines that have single-handedly attenuated the integrity of a track, but I tend to repress them immediately.

Do you have a second instrument? If you do, try focusing on that for a bit. - Writing chord sequences on guitar or whatever. The bass will be extra extra special that way as well.

Necks are the biggest problem as I have small hands. I'm happy with a jazz neck, but would prefer something a little chunkier whilst still being rounded at the back.
