1. Just a suggestion if you don't mind it being more that 1u..I'm about to take the plunge on making a preamp separately by getting a rack eq and limiter, using a DI to get a balanced sound and using the eq as gain essentially. You go from the DI into the eq, then into the limiter and from there into the power amp..it also doubles up as a guitar rig too if you have a guitar cab handy I've been looking at pre-amps for a long time and never found one that has the right balance of price/quality that was on the market at the time. Good luck in your search!
2. Check out some of the mooer pedals. I have one of their pitch shifting pedals and its amazing for the price. I'm not sure how their distortions sound on bass but definitely worth checking out. Around £60 brand new and I'm sure you could find second hand models no prob
3. I'm very tempted by these amps at the minute too. Great deals on GAK and bassdirect.co.uk (£600 ) I just have to get rid of what I've got and prey that xmas doesn't rinse my bank account too bad. From what I have seen they look really versatile and I like that it has two separate power amps to save dicking around worrying about the impedance of your speakers
4. Great choice of bass. I've only ever played one bongo, it was a 5 string and I can't remember what the pups and electronics were but I do remember how comfortable and easy it was to play. The chap I knew didn't seem to get on with it and he traded it which was a shame, I've been wanting one ever since...
5. A nice chain I have always gone with no matter on the company is: Pitch shifting (octaves and other pitch shifters) --> Modulation --> Dirt/Fuzz -- Filters --> Reverb/Delay I find this is a good start point...but you can play forever with different setups.
6. Very very tempted by the oxide! Tomorrow is bill paying day so if I have funds left I will most likely be splashing out!
7. No worries mate, I will check the funds once the bills are paid
8. Very tempted by the swolen pickle! I will have to check the funds and let you know. Unless you are interested in a trade for MXR M80 DI+ and some cash?
9. Hi mate, wondering if you would consider a trade for the flying tomato for my mxr m-80 DI? Its about the same price i would sell for and im after a fuzz.
10. Good call on the moog! You won't regret it. As for other effects you might want some drive or fuzz of some kind..other than that you cant go wrong with some kind of pitch shifter and don't forget modulation..chorus..flange..phase.. There is a lot to choose from but don't be put off, experiment and have fun
11. Sweeet! Thanks for that. I shall have to get on it when the money comes rolling in...whenever that may be
12.
Exactly what I thought about the pedal on which this one is obviously based... Having built a mastotron clone I can tell you there's not much to these pedals. Nice variation on a theme with this one though!
How did the mastotron clone turn out? I had a look for DIY mastotron kits but i couldn't find anything.
13. ARGHHHH!! Money should grow on trees
14. I have the moog low pass filter. Started using it for big sweeps and wobbley bass lines. But now have it on most of the time, it provides a really nice analogue tone to it and really warms up your overall sound. I would highly recommend it. Well worth the money. Make sure to get an expression pedal or two though to get the most out of it.
