1. Can't believe this is still here bump Good bit of kit at a very cheap price.
Yes, it's a Jan 1966 Jazz. Refin and two replaced screws, otherwise original. My fav bass of all time.
Lovely, Jan 66 was a good month. Here's my one from the same month and year, my fave Jazz so far
5. I won five sets in the last survey/comp that I completed on here. I've spectacularly failed to win anything over the years and thought it was a wind up when I received the email notification So although it seems a bit selfish to enter again, why not. Have you tried Elixir strings before? My first experience with them was after winning last time. What other brands are you familiar with? Over the last few years I had been using DR Highbeams and D'addario Pro Steels What bass(es) will you try the new strings on? My two main gigging basses, G&L SB1's and probably on my 66 Jazz. What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing) Gigging and practicing mostly. Possibly some studio time. Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings? I play most days at home and also regularly gig with a covers/function band, covering rock, pop, dance, disco and funk. Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting) https://www.facebook...?type=1 The G&L has had a set of Elixir's on since February. I've done plenty of sweaty pub gigs since putting them on and they still feel and sound great. For most of our set I play with a pick, so the strings get a good bashing and to date are showing no signs of deterioration. So far I'm very impressed.
6.
Holy Thread Resurrection Batman! I had entirely forgot about this until a recent spate of 'Likes' appeared on my bands pages which made me think I should pop back and have a look. I am now up to date. Thanks All
Thanks for liking DefunkT
7. I know you are not keen on black but to me, that looks just great. Lovely combo with the maple. Surprised at the weight, it looks like it should be a heavyweight Very nice and sounds great too, well worth the wait.
8. I don't like it at all when they tilt. It makes me very uneasy until I can get them nice and level again
9. I'm fine with Billie Jean (will probably mess it up at the next gig now ) I find some disco lines a challenge, not so much because of any complexity but more the tempo and the octavingness Hot Stuff/Donna Summer springs to mind.
10.
Oof! Well... this was a very dangerous thread to look at...
Yes back away now, you know it makes sense. You really don't need to throw in Wal GAS on top of all your other ones
11.
I have aan original model G&L ASAT guitar with microtilt and it works like a dream. Leo got it right the second time it would seem.
I think Leo probably got it right the first time, the workforce managed to get it wrong.
12. A good one for DefunkT last night, not a huge crowd but much enthusiastic dancing for most of the evening. Plenty of compliments from other musicians and they weren't even very drunk Got invited back for four more dates next year.
13. No worries, I really enjoyed it. Bumping this back to the top.
14. When selling, I tend not to base the price on what I paid for it but for what I think it is worth at the time. I see little point in doing it any other way. If I get it right, happy days. If I have got it wrong, it doesn't sell and then I drop the price hopefully to a level that is right.
15. Well I fit the bill, in that I'm sick but unfortunately too old. Good luck, hope you find the right player.
16. As Grangur said, I play there. It''s one of our regular gigs. On the plus side: the crowd enjoy their music and are always up for a dance. The owners and staff are great. The load in isn't too bad, pull up outside. Plenty of parking in the surrounding back streets. Downside: Is the bloody limiter It is a distraction and it's all to easy to spend the night watching it. we have found that it is particularly sensitive to the G spot . Something I have found that seems to help, is when playing on the G, not letting the note swell works well. I tend to play in a much more syncopated fashion in the Haig. Last time we were there, the limiter did its thing just as we hit the chorus on Plug in Baby. I tend to roll the bass and mids off and keep the volume down. Another thing to be aware of is, that the ladies have to walk through the band playing area to get to the loos. You need to stay aware of your surroundings, otherwise there is the real risk of headstock/ladies face encounters.
Take an extension reel, find another socket and override the damn thing. I've seen the chatter of an audience and clinking glasses set linters off. Edinburgh PO Club and Cumbernauld Town Hall are two of the worst.
You will not be able to do that at this venue. The limiter is there because of noise complaints and they are monitored by the council, or whoever. The limiters are a pain but it's just another one of the challenges of the pub/club scene. Hope it goes well.
17. I'm happy to be starting a Feedback thread for Andy. Had the pleasure of meeting him at the weekend, when he came over to take a look at my 73 Jazz. Deal in confidence ladies and gents, he is a fine chap, good communication, turned up on time and no messing when it came to paying.
18. I love the feel of flats. I love the sound of flats at home, playing along to Northern Soul and Motown. But for gigging, certainly with the current band, it has to be rounds.
19.
Is this anywhere near Oxfordshire?
Nearish, I'm in Hertfordshire.
