1.
Well, I'm Canadian, eh? So, right continent, wrong country, but living here now, so I'll crank up the Bentley and drive down to Absolute, where they'll look at me like I'm an alien... they'll probably be having a "Bring or Take" sale... ;-)
2.
Hmm... it's hard to say what would suit. Maybe the best thing is to bring it to your local music shop and see what they can do?
I say old chap, unless we are from the States, we take it to our local music shop
3. Each time I check out these vids, I like it more Thanks for posting Nige. I'm off to take my ma to hospital in a minute, so will revisit this upon my return.
4. if the precision pup is in the same position as on a standard p bass, then I would expect the sound to be the same.
5. 9 o'clock start - midnight finish. Should be a good night, always a lively crowd at the Swan.
6. 1988 SGC Nanyo Bass Collection 401 With hardcase. A very nice, Japanese built 1988, sunburst, active bass. This is a very comfortable instrument to gig with as it weighs in at just 7lbs. I did think that this would become my main gigging instrument but having just purchased another G&L, I need to move this one on. The build quality is of a high standard. Condition is exceptionally good, although not pristine. 2 octave rosewood finger board, with side dot markers Scale length 34” Maple neck Gotoh tuners Fully adjustable bridge Active SGC P & J style pick ups Four Controls for volume, Pick up blend, Treble & Bass (Boost/Cut) When I got the bass the saddle height adjusting screws were all protruding above the bridge, the hand shredding nature of this is a pet hate of mine, so they have been replaced with shorter screws. Also the battery holder for the active circuitry was in a sorry state, with damaged cables twisted together and taped up. This has been replaced with a more substantial one and decent cables. I believe that everything else is original and as it left the factory. The case is decent quality, plush lined and all catches work as they should. In mostly good condition, with just a couple of tears to the covering and some slight wear. I’m offering this up at £270.00 including the hard case. Or £250 without the hard case. This price will only apply if collecting from me. If it is being couriered then it will have to be in the case. I am happy to deliver via courier, within the case, bubble wrapped and then cardboard boxed. This will be an additional £20. I’m in Hertfordshire, happy for any of you to come over to try it out and partake in tea and biccies. For more info check out Happy Jacks very informative thread; http://basschat.co.u...al%20backwaters
7. Bet you will be back out there next week, doing the same and maybe coming away thinking, wow that was an excellent gig, brilliant crowd, really enjoyed myself and to top it all, got a few quid for new strings
8. A bump for this very cheaply priced, excellent bit of kit
9. Does seem like a good price. Will you be firing up the Discreet mobile and heading for Hereford?
10.
Worst gig experience of my life... and to top it all off, the Jack sockets on BOTH of my basses failed on me, despite me taking them into a local well regarded shop to get serviced to make sure they'd be in top shape. I ended up so humiliated and upset that I walked off stage mid set. I pride myself on my reliability, and in my 11 years gigging experience nothing even close to yrhis has never happened to me. Currently feeling like my reputation is in tatters, hoping I don't cause too much sh*t when I storm into the shop tommorrow...
Feel for you mate. That is amazingly bad luck to have both basses fail Let us know how you get on at the shop.
11.
Crazy that this hasn't sold!
Someone will fall in love with it soon Kev. Maybe in 2015 a BC'er celebrating a 40th Birthday will want to treat him/herself.
12. Very fairly priced, does need a new pick guard though. Nice looking bass.
13. A Price drop and a bump. Now only £65
14.
My newly purchased MKIII sixer has had a chance to settle in since it arrived last week, turned up in an apocalypse proof flightcase which weighs approximately four tons... W17195 Shedua facings; Not had a chance to take any proper pictures yet, but I'll do a proper NBD thread when I get the chance. I'm loving the tone, so much so that I'm selling all my other basses... I have a MKIII sixer of my own being completed next year and I can't see me using anything other than a Wal in the future. What are some of you guys favourite settings? I'm enjoying amongst others; Neck pickup - 2 (not pulled up) Bridge Pickup - 10 (not pulled up) Balance - 3 notches from full neck pickup Volume - 10 (pulled up)
Impressively handsome beast
15.
I've never owned a G&L and profess that I've always been put off by the headstock...I didn't know until quite recently that the original headstocks were smooth babies like these. Now I'm getting a bit of GAS. P
Honestly, these old G&L's deserve much more appreciation than they seen to receive. I love the vibe of my old Fender P's. I love my Wal for its Walness. I love my Dingwall for the build quality and components but for me, none of them have the presence or power of the G&L's.
16. Although both of these basses have appeared on the forum previously, I thought that now they reside together, it was time for a couple of new pics. The white one is an '87 that I've gigged with regularly for the last few years. The black one is an '83 that until a week ago lived with Discreet. I've yet to play anything more powerful than either of these
17.
Phwooar! Eh? Eh? Thanks John. Thanks, Gary. I trust you are still enjoying the '83 SB-2? You know you're only looking after it for me, don't you?
Fear not the SB 2 is being well cared for. Lovingly cleaned/polished and even taken out for a change of scene at the weekends.
18. I wouldn't be worried, it can take it, that's what it is there for. Unless you were very heavy handed and over tightened, you won't be causing any damage.
