  1. Had to learn this number for a dep gig last week
  2. Mr stewblack is spot on with this. Get yourself well and then give it proper consideration.
  3. Anyone playing or going along to spectate? I'm depping and still learning some of the tunes
  4. The Yes Album is the one for me. Still regularly play it and just love listening to it on headphones, just so involving. Fragile second. I also like The Ladder, well, most of it.
  5. There's a chap, who I believe does actually play bass in a Jam tribute act, who played air bass at one of our gigs in Stevenage. Not only air bass but air bass in the style of Mr Foxton.
  6. Welcome RoverT, hope you enjoy the forum
  7. You haven't, we are watching you Mr Blank...........................................
  8. @MaudeIs there a good N.S. scene in Cornwall?
  9. Do hope you extricate your balls without any lasting damage
  10. I've got the Fender's in my gigging P and I love the sound.
  11. We've recently given it a bit of a reworking in a slow, stripped down version. It's made me less bored with playing it
  12. On the basses that I've had with that option, I've not been able to detect any difference. Others will tell you that the sustain/resonance or whatever, is vastly improved by stringing through the body.
  13. To check the nut slot heights, try holding the string down at the 3rd fret, there should be a slight gap then between the underside of the string and the top of the first fret. If there isn't a gap, then the slots are too deep and the strings will buzz when played open. If the gap is excessive then the slots need filing. The correct relief varies dependant on the fret board radius. I don't want to offend you but maybe it would be worth paying to get it set up properly, or do some research But I'm happy to answer questions and help as best I can.
  14. Yes too much relief can cause buzzing towards that end. It's very easy to end up going around in circles with this sort of problem. My advice would be carry out adjustments in this order: First off make sure that the strings are sitting comfortably and at the correct heights at the nut. Next adjust the truss rod to give the correct relief for your particular neck/fret board. Next adjust the string height at the bridge, ideally so that the strings follow the fret board radius.
  15. Try (temporarily) taking the action up a little higher on the A. If the buzzing is still present, use a little straight edge (Credit card or similar) spanning across three frets at a time and check for any rocking. You might find that one or more are a little high. Then report back
  16. Mono Bass Sleeve for me as well. Been using it regularly now for a few years and still as good as new.
  17. I tend to think of it as "Do I want to learn all of that" , rather than need. If you want to, then ultimately, it will almost certainly make you a better player than before.
  18. I'm in Herts. P.m. me if you would like to discuss.
  19. Well done for having the bottle to do it.
  20. I'm in Herts but that's a bit of a trek for you.
  21. My daughter has the same bass and I have to say that it sounds great with the standard pick ups. I was at a battle of the bands type event when she was on bass and it was the only bass that could be heard clearly. It is all stock but I have set it up for her and would happily gig it myself. So, I'm guessing it's likely to be a set up issue with your one. I would advise in the first instance, getting it set up properly and at the same time get those pick up springs sorted out. If it's still not to your liking, then would be the time to consider replacement pick ups.
  22. Going to have to dig out my old vinyl BW albums.
  23. First off, when you say it's one high fret, is it a fret that has visibly lifted slightly i.e. you can see a little gap between it and the fret board? If you can't actually see it with the naked eye, you can check by attempting to slide a thin piece of paper in there. Assuming there is a gap, then a smart tap with a small hammer will probably be all that's needed. If a levelling is required and it is only one fret, then a sharpie pen, sand paper, emery board (nail file), 120, 240, 320 and 400 grit paper, masking tape, should be all you need. Drop me a pm if you want any DIY instructions.
