If you don't go down the DIY route, you certainly can't go wrong with one of Kiogons kits. I've had a few over the years. Quality components, quality workmanship and nice and easy to install. Plus he is a fine fellow to deal with

Mike is a delight to deal with. Paid when he said he would and good comms throughout. Another one of the Bass Chat good guys.

Good idea Mick. It should be interesting, so many variables, string choice, set up, pups etc.

I thought I was GAS free these days, slight hankerings but nothing too serious and then..................Grand Wazoo visited me at the weekend and brought along his Dingwall collection. What has made it worse, is he has lent me one and I can't put the thing down. Now I keep visiting the Dingwall site and forum, keep checking Ebay and Bass Direct. I even started thinking about selling my Wal and a Fender or two.

Will have to dig out my copy, haven't played it for a long time. Enjoy your trip.

Welcome Fred. Enjoy your time here. There are some cracking amps/cabs and great prices in the For Sale forum. I went down the lightweight route sometime back and haven't regretted it. Genz Benz head 600 watts into two Mark Bass 2 x 10" cabs. Lovely, in yer face, up front, clear sound.

[/quote] Something I've encountered a couple of times is this. A couple of basses have developed a serious buzz, which disappears when touching the bridge or strings. I've removed pickguard checked wiring/earthing etc. all good. With the pickguard still pulled away from the body, I've pushed in the jack plug and no buzzing . Then put p/g back in place buzzing returns. Problem resolved by loosening off the input socket and rotating it slightly, so that the metal work is not in contact with or near to the side of the cavity.

Good for you mate. I was with a band for a while that sucked the fun right out of it. It took me a while to realise just how miserable they were making me. What a relief when I finally walked away and got with a band that made it fun again.
