1. It surprises me just how many audience members delight in the sound of a cow bell. Quite often at DefunkT gigs, there is much wooping and cheering when the cowbell is unleashed during Gaga's Bad Romance. the tin whistle causes a similar reaction in Groove is in the Heart.
2. What Stinson said. Bass Doc has been my first port of call on a fair few occasions, always got me sorted.
3. My deluxe that you can see in the avatar has the MM pup at the bridge. It does add some flexibility and I use it when playing at home but whenever I use it for gigs/rehearsals I always seem to end up just using the Precision pup. I suppose because I like the P bass sound All things considered I don't think it's a mod I would bother with, unless of course, you don't want it to sound all P like.
4. Paul, I've fitted quarter pounders in a couple of my P basses and been very pleased with the results. Lozz described the sound very well. Bit of a trek for you but if you wanted a trip down to my gaff you could have a play on my quarter pound equiped p bass.
5. Bumping again, maybe I should keep it and enjoy for a while longer
6. Happy New Year Bass chatters. First bump of 2014.
7. Those pups aren't usually quiet are they. Think I would try another set of pups in the first instance or at least get the barts checked out. Have you tested them with a meter?
8. Welcome to the forum, good to have you on board. Could you put the location of Quebec, in to the heading of your post please. Good man
9.
Here's a picture of my new Fender Nate Mendel Signature Precision. I'd been admiring the one in my local music shop for months and the better half got it for me for Christmas. It's wonderful and the neck profile is great for a jazz bass fan like me! The Seymour Duncan quarter pounders are thunderous but im thinking of switching them out for some Aguilar AG4P-60 pickups, just to see if a more vintage vibe would be better. I'm absolutely in love with it though. Best. Present. Ever!
That is some Christmas pressie and some better half.
10. Mel, just play what is comfortable, or at least less painful for you. If it's a shorter scale model so be it. A fair few players have to adapt, due to age related issues or injuries. I know there are a number of us on here for example, who aren't comfortable with Jazz necks but find P necks great and vice versa. It's not the type or style of instrument that makes you a bass player
11.
Not quite one song in particular that I've been working on but I've decided to use Christmas time and an empty flat (bring out the tiny violins) to work on my soloing over changes. Just recorded light backing tracks for most of my standards repertoire and going through them a couple of days a time. Fun! Must be other people shedding this Winter with this awful weather, right?
No shedding here, haven't touched a bass since the end of our gig on Saturday. Busy with chrimbo stuff and housework today. Have a good one.
12. That's better......................a happy thread. Good on you for posting here and of course to Paul up in Scotland. Right, back to the housework, after I've finished my rather lovely cup of tea.
13. Last bump before Christmas. ...........and Grangur, I'm sure Mrs. G would love it.
14. Assuming that Yamaha amps are of the same sort of quality as their instruments, I can't imagine it would be worth the bother. I should add though that I've never played through a Yamaha amp.
15. If you haven't actually had any real problems yet and only one guy being a pest out of all these gigs, don't think I would be too bothered. It would still be quite a large outlay, funding a reliable gig worthy set up. If you need to justify a GAS attack, then I concur and think it's a damned fine idea
