i've played a couple of open air gigs on large stages with the same amp as you and I two Markbass 2 x 10"'s. Didn't go through the P.A. Infact it was all pretty much our standard gig set up, ( can't recall what the P.A. was) Anyway volume wasn't a problem. The problem I encountered was with my amp cutting out. It was a momentary thing but happened a number of times during the gig. I thought at first that the amp was playing up but realised after a while that it was something to do with the generator. The amp has never missed a beat on any other occassion, indoors or out, just that one gig with the generator. Sorry can't tell you why it happened, although I suspect the supply was just not consistent enough. I suppose the advice would be look for a high spec generator, if there is such a beast.

A spray up with some proper switch cleaner can work wonders. Worth trying before going for replacement of the pot.

Thanks to Elaine from the customer service office of D'Addario Strings, I have ended up with a surplus set of strings. Instead of sending me a long scale set these were sent in error. I didn't notice they were medium scale length until I had started to wind the G onto my P bass. One of those DOH moments. Anyway, Instead of making me feel like a right plonker, she kindly sent me a long scale set. All of my basses are long scale so these won't get used. I have spoken to Elaine today about sending them back but as I've opened them, she didn't want them back. So I asked if she would be happy for me to sell them on Bass Chat and to donate the proceeds to a charity of my choice. She is happy with this arrangement, so here they are. ECB81M Chromes, Regular Light Gauge .045/.065/.080/.100 [u]MEDIUM SCALE LENGTH[/u] I looked on the strings direct site today and they are priced at £32.95. So I think a fair price would be [s]£22.00[/s] £20.00 inc p&p. Would rather not incur pay pal fees, so bank transfer would be ideal. CHARITY OF CHOICE: A good friend of mine died a few years back after a horrendous time with Pancreatic cancer. His daughter is running the London Marathon this year to raise funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Charity. So if these strings sell I will add the money to what we have already donated.

Got to agree with all of the above. Sometimes though you have to steel yourself and just jump in at the deep end. It's easy to fall in to the trap of thinking you are not good enough, every other player is better etc. and to just keep on practicing on your own. One of the problems then is, unless your practicing is very structured, you will tend to play what you already know over and over. If you know your way around the instrument and you want to play in a band, go for it. Good luck with it
