Just been on the receiving end of some excellent customer care
gary mac replied to gary mac's topic in General Discussion
So on the third attempt and after much help, patience and support from Elaine at D'Addarioin, I have finally succeeded in fitting the strings, thankfully it was worth persevering. They not only do they sound damn fine, they feel so silky smooth to the touch. I know that a lot of players beliieve that flats are only good for thud and thump but that is certainly not the case with these, there is brilliant definition, plenty of oomph and enough brightness to make me very happy (not a very technical appraisal, sorry) . Looking forward to gigging them in the not too distant. -

The replacement set for the replacement set arrived this morning. It was about 3.30 yesterday afternoon when I emailed Elaine about the problem. How's that for service? -
That's yet another example of great service! Seems to be a lot of it about recently What a massive pain about the replacement set being Medium gauge! I'd feel so awkward informing them of the mistake!
Yes I was a bit . But instead of making me feel like a prize pillock, Elaine at D'addario apologised for the mistake and has sent me out another set. -

Same for me Higgie, I've been using DR strings for the last couple of years. This is my first purchase of flats, although one of my P basses came with flats on. Update Still haven't got the new flats on< I didnt notice until I had trimmed the G and started winding it on that I hsve been sent a medium scale set. -
Think I enjoyed it but had more than enough of widdlywiddlysiddly guitar solos by the time I went to bed. Could have been worse though at least no drum solos

A pleasant and hassle free transaction with Ian. Excellent comms and true to his word with payment. Trade with confidence fellow BC'ers.

Last week I mentioned in someone elses thread about a problem I had experienced when fitting a set of D'Addario flatwounds. All was going well until attempting to tune the G. It just wouldn't tune up, kept slipping and eventually after a few atttempst the last 20 mm or so snappped. I was feeling quite glum about it, because my girls had got them for me as a birthday pressie and at £30, not cheap. Another BC'er suggested that I contact D'Addario, which I did via e mail. Anyway Elaine Smith from sales/marketing replied in double quick time, informing me that they couldnt supply me with a single string but would I be happy with a replacement set and a T shirt for my inconvenience. The Bass world does seemed to be blessed with some very good companies, who seem to excell at customer care. If there is a Bass Chat list of companies that have shown great customer care, then I nominate D'Addario to be added.

I think if I were you and given the lack of a decent shop/luthier, I would be determined to go down the DIY route. There are plenty of resources available to you, along with a lot of knowledgable, helpful people on this site. It's well worth learning a few basics. Being able to carry out running repairs and set ups can be very satisfying and save a whole load of dosh. Maybe it would be worth considering buying a cheapo instrument to act as your guinea pig, rather than risking your p bass project. You never know you might become the luthier that your neck of the woods is lacking

The one that gets me all riled up is "It's a simple repair, only take five mins and a 50p part" also "it could do with a polish".

.Good news indeed, let's hope it is all ok

Wouldn't you think that local guitar shops would be offering a better level of service? what with the internet competion and so on. I do like the idea of supporting the local high street establishments but have to draw the line when they are staffed/owned by total knobs who dish out that kind of advice. Very short sighted to lie to your potential customers. Or did he think you might be a danger to yourself wielding a soldering iron

Cracking gig last night at The George in Hoddesdon, Herts. Not a huge crowd but friendly and they enjoyed our set. Good guvernor, bought us a drink as soon as we arrived, happily paid us at the end and invited us back.

Got to agree with Discreet. On the plus side though, he at least had the decency to give you the dosh for the re listing but that doesn't make it right.

I've also used the seller recommended above. The first one worked out fine and fitted perfectly. The second one didn't. Strange as they were both for Squier Affinity P basses. I was able to send the second one back for a full refund, no problem. So it's worth a punt. If it's wrong it can go back (just don't remove the protective film), all it will cost you is the return postage which I think was about £2.00

Auditions - why are some musicians so damned rude to others?
gary mac replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
It amazes me what total knobs some people can be. After a couple of similar experiences last year it got to the point where I felt that I really didnt want to gig anymore. I had one audition and for the following couple of days had numerous e mails from the other band members, telling how I had "totally nailed it" and how my sound fitted right in with them, I had got the gig etc etc. Then it all went quiet, so I mailed the band leader. He replied with an apology that they hadn't been able to get together for a week but it would all be on for the following week. That was a year ago . I'm convinced that there are certain people who just like to bullshit, brag and generally bugger others about. What really gets me riled up though, is that in this age that we live in, it has never been easier, quicker or cheaper to contact each other. Right I'm off to load the car and off to gig only about a mile from home, with a group of people that I really enjoy playing with and who all communicate with each other and don't behave like total knobs -
Probably still worth contacting Howard. There is not much he doesn't know about Fender/Squiers
-
If in doubt, contact our very own Howard, the Bass Doc. You can send him a template or the existing one, he will make a very nice one in next to no time and you won't get stripped up..
She barely feels it, that's what I find amazing. We had a six hour rehearsal today, then she does a 90 minute classical gig at 7am tomorrow in Devon, and then we do the 90 minute full band show in the evening. She's a legend. Amazing musician and a wonderful person.
and lovely too -
I've been considering getting a trolley or barrow. Sure someone on here recommended B&Q., although the reviews I've read weren't too good really. There are whole load of different options on Ebay at the mo. I might take a chance and hit the Buy it Now. If I do I'll let you know.
