1. That was quick Nick, No problem. Probably got your details somewhere but can u pm me save me searching All the best
2. Silldx kindly sent me this book and is happy for me to add it to the Bass Chat library. I always enjoyed the bass playing of Bruce Thomas when he was part of the Attractions. This book, much like his bass playing is imaginative, and entertaining. It is also in parts, very humorous. So, add your name below if interested. In Bass Chat tradition, I will sign it and forward it on to the first BC'er on the list. Gary.
3. Is it still under warranty? Not trying to be clever but thought you may not be aware, they come with a three year guarantee. Assuming it's out of warranty may be worth you doing a search on the Talk Bass forum, I believe one of the users on there was involved in the design of the Shuttle 6. He seems very willing to offer advice. Sorry, can't recall his user name.
4. I would still be tempted to fit it up with a decent neck, assuming that I liked the body whether it was Fender or not.
5.
my biggest problem is that I can get the sound I want at home at low volume, but when gigging/rehearsing, I don't seem to cut through the mix as well as I would like..
I can recall the same problem, then I got my first P bass not always the best sound at home but just seemed to sit so nicely in the band mix. The band was blues/rock
6. Unless instruments are particularly valuable/collectable, I see very little point in keeping them if they are not comfortable to play due to weight issues. So, unless you are expecting your ailing back to improve, sell the heavyweights. I can recall in my younger days always striving for "that sound", spending time and dosh on preamps, active basses, different amps etc. It all seems to have come right for me now with passive precisions and the eq on my amp, which is a Genz
7. A couple of years back I had a similar situation with a guitarist. Said guitarist was a good friend as were the other band members. We gelled as mates and musically. But his reliability was just awful. Week in week out we would all be set up at rehearsal and waiting for him to hopefully turn up. Sometimes he did, more often he didn't. Sometimes he would phone, sometimes not. I stuck with it for about a year or so, until I decided enough was enough. I had come to the conclusion that the situation wasn't going to change and that I didnt want to spoil our friendship with a falling out, which there would have been, as I was starting to feel that it was a real insult leaving us all hanging each week. So, the friendship was preserved and I'm now in a couple of bands where everyone seems to be equally committed. My old mates are still at it, although not one gig since I left and only a handful of rehearsals in a year or so.
8.
Next time I see some dude with an old guitar in the pub I might go up and ask them for a sniff.
Probably a sound move if you want to acquire a black eye
9. Yes I remember that and wanted to look it up but failed. I had started to think it was maybe on Talk Bass
10. You have made me want to go and free my Wal from it's case. I've not gigged or even rehearsed it for an age. That will have to change.
11.
Dammit, would've been up for this, but I'm getting married on the 8th of June and I don't think my bride to be would be too impressed if I popped out to do a gig..............
Some women can be a bit touchy about that sort of thing
12. Enjoy, I'm sure it will be a very entertaining gig.
13. I did as Neepheid suggested but as I had just given up fags, used smoking economics. I gave up in July 2010 so have saved approx. £2,000. Allowing me to get a very nice G&L SB1 and a 75 P bass
14. Does that grain look as stunning in the flesh as in the pics Si? Damn that's handsome. Good luck with the sale, I've got a nice P if you want to swap Just kidding, I'm hanging on to it for a while yet.
15.
Then put wood glue on the screws and bolted the neck on. Lovely.
Really? Why? Not looking to be argumentative, just can't see the need.
16. Nice one James. Not good though is it, that it's necessary to do so?
17. As you, I was slightly concerned when I found that the band I was joining downtuned by a semi tone. I have not found any problem or the need for any adjustments to the set up or truss rod. What has been a minor inconvenience is when trying to learn numbers that are recorded at concert pitch.
18. Nice one Daz. Played this with a band a while back and always had fun with it.
19. You can drill out the holes but wouldn't really recommend doing it freehand as it were. Best bet is to use a proper drill bench and clamp down the neck so that there is no movement, ensuring that the holes are accurate and not skewing off at an angle.
20. I shall update with photos as the refurb progresses. Look forward to seeing it restored to it's former glory.
21. I had this one on my watch list, now deleted, what a total dick.
