1. Might see you there then. Are Steve and band going to be there?
2.
BTW Gary - if it needs a new socket give me a shout I've got a spare here. Cheerz, John
I think it does John, can's see anything obviously wrong, the solder is good as is the cable. So that would be great. Pm how much you want for it and we will get it sorted.
3.
Well done Gary - that looks lovely - good score & now you've made lurve with flats there's no going back Cheerz, John
Strange thing though John, although I love the smoothness and feel, they actually make my fingers a bit sore. Intend to stick with them though and just man up
4.
They seem a bit hit and miss as far as build quality goes. But I have noticed that you can buy the complete guitar for not much more than a neck on Ebay. I could break the remains and flog it off. I will maybe wait until after xmas when there will be a load of affinity basses on Ebay! lol How do you check over an old or used neck? Clean it up and check for straightness. Check for level and undamaged frets. Check the nut. Check the tuners are smooth and tight. What else?
That's about it, other than ensuring that the truss rod is functioning.
5. What a fine birthday pressie. Come on get the pics up. And have a good day
6.
Nice one Gary and a hugely deserved treat for yourself given what you've been through. I hope it's the start of a whole heap of better things to come
Very kind Nick, thanks
7.
I wouldn't mind so much the lack of pictures, it's just that you advertised that you've got "lovely big pics" on the thread title.
Fixed hopefully
8. I recently purchased an affinity to pimp. I thought that the neck would be the first thing to change but I was surprised to find that it was rather good. The frets were all level with no sharp ends. I set it up with a decent low action without much in the way of fret buzz. I did discard the tuners, there was nothing wrong with them but I prefer full size ones. this did involve drilling out the holes. I removed the existing decals and varnish/laquer. Put on a decal of my own design and relaquered with a satin finish. All in all it was a good job and well worth the effort
9. Thanks to MrH and icastle I have been able to insert the pics.
10.
Looks like the photo permission is set to 'Private'. Change to 'Public' then we can paaaarty!
Will that mean that I can upload some nice big pics or you lot can just visit on flickr?

So after plenty of research, some advice, help and pointers from Beedster, Rick and Howard, I took the plunge. Simon made it all happen and found this bass for me in the States. It's a lovely instrument and in remarkable condition. It came with the original case and a 70's strap. The case is much more road worn than the bass and comes complete with a lovely vintage aroma. It came to me strung with flats, I've only ever played rounds but I must say that I love the smooth feel of them. They sound so right as well, although I've not yet played it at gig volume. I do intend to gig it although not in the Harlow pubs that we've recently been playing in. The neck and fret board are a joy and thankfully there are no dead spots. The frets are very good and not showing any signs of wear. I need to sort out an intermitent problem with the input socket and then take it out for a gig. I don't want it to be a housebound instrument for the duration of my ownership.
13. Lovely lookers GW. Excellent sales blurb and pics.
14. I can usually recover quite rapidly but during Sweet child of Mine last weekend it all went horribly wrong, the singer missed a bit, which threw me and it was probably two or three bars before I caught on to how bad it sounded. This was followed by one of those hideous total brain blank moments which resulted in me forgetting that I could play a bass guitar. Other than that got through the gig with hardly a duff note.
15. my daughter used one at a recent open mic night and it sounded quite fine. Seen them for sale at Gig Gear in Harlow
16. Thanks John, that looks rather splendid.
17. A pleasure to see you back here again and well said. Always enjoy your posts though.
18. Looking good John but let us see the rest of it.
19. The Chequers, Old Harlow, Essex. Packed up following last nights gig, feeling really deflated and miserable . Not that we played badly, mostly it was pretty good, but on the whole a very uninterested audience.
20. I've been enjoying some of his playing lately, have had to learn Jail Break, Rosalie and Don't Believe a Word for the band that I've recently joined.
21. Bet that it will be lovely, will look forward to seeing some pics. And lovely that everytime you look at it you can think of your ma.
22. Nice one Dave, it looks very rock n roll
23. So glad to hear it Dave, that is excellent. Glad to hear your recovery is still improving.
