1.
I've just left my regular band due to musical differences. But now joined up with a couple of new guys, but only at the jamming stage at the moment. So it will probably be a little while yet before I get gigging again. Maybe I will have to try a open mic session, just to see what the basses are like in a live situation.
I've just been asked to stand in for a departed bass player, wonder if its the same band? Yet another set list for me to learn. There is a well run open mic night at the white swan in hoddesdon, not sure when the next one is but I can find out, if you are interested.
2. They both look lovely Brig, really impressive. Maybe I'll get to hear them at some point as we are both in the same county Let me know where/when you are gigging
3. The link doesn't work for me
4. Looking forward to seeing the finished job. Love Candy Apple Red, what about pickguard, staying as is or being changed?
5. Not a full gig but a half hour or so set at an open mic night in The Gate pub in North London. Didn't fancy doing this one much and my mood didn't improve when as I walking in, a huge menacing looking blighter told me "you'd better be good mate". Against my expectations it turned out to be a good evening, very well run, decent P.A. , good audience and some decent muscianship. Think we went down well, after a slightly shakey start due to our illustrious leader kicking off with Proud Mary although he told us it was to be Midnight Hour. We finished with Whole Lotta Rosie. As I was leaving, the menacing blighter, told me "I was proper", which I guess I should accept as a compliment
Most tab is not accurate, but if your in a rush it can speed things up but you still have to listen to fill in the blanks and make judgements on what is wrong I find when I'm time pushed that chord charts are more useful for speeding up the process, you still have to learn the line by ear but at least you have a reference for roots and structure
Yes that's what I tend to do, chord charts that is.
7. Thanks Jakester but thing I've got it now. Much appreciated though.
8.
I`ve I had lots of P basses over theyears, US ones, Jap ones but have always got shot of them because I get bored with them quickly. But I am of the opnion that everyone should have one in their collection and so, I put this together to satisfy the P bass craving when it appears. Squire body, Jap 57 reissue neck, Wilkinson tuners, Kent Armstrong Hot pickup, wiring upgrade kit and Halfords Montego red paint job. It`s sound pretty good through my Sansamp and is nice and light. 9. I think the TRB's are brilliant instruments. I've only tried four stringers but the quality was impressive
10. I've got to nail a set list for a depp in a week or so and was struggling a bit with a couple of numbers, so in an attempt to save myself some time I downloaded the tabs. What a miserable experience, not very accurate and I just found myself losing the will and getting very bored with it. Gone back to relying on ears and some improvising. I know TAB is a useful resource but I really can't get on with it. Right off to learn Shine by Take That and Read my Mind/Killers.
11. The knobs should just pull off, although some assistance might be needed with a screw driver or blade to lever them up. Obviously use a towel or piece of card or something to protect the paintwork
12. That's just so, like awesum man. OOh can't wait to get to rehearsal tonight, to try out all this new stuff I've learnt.
13.
The chap i got this from said that it had CTS pots and wiring. I tried to hide my ignorance and said "ah excellent" but he may as well have been speaking in Swahili. Is this a good thing?
Yes it's the kit that a lot of people use for an upgrade.
14. When I bought a squier affinity p bass a few months back, I thought the first job would be to change the neck but I quickly realised there was no need. The neck was good as was the fretwork. I didn't like the diddly little tuners though, so they were changed for proper Fender ones. The electrics were the weak point and I therefore replaced the lot.
15. It's also worth not just considering the weight but also body shape etc. Off set body shapes are a no no for me as are any basses with neck dive.
16. Sorry having just revisited this post I realise that my earlier reply may have come across in a sarcastic fashion.. That wasn't my intention. I should have taken the time to explain in a proper fashion, as Out7hined did
17.
Just loosened the truss rod on my Ibanez by a quarter turn to give the neck a bit of relief (ooh er, missus) How long will it be before I can tell if its worked?
As long as it takes you to remeasure the gap at the point you previously measured
18. I missed this thread first time round, so I'm a bit late but wish you luck with it Rob. Hope it sells many copies.
19. I guess you have the nitromors option or maybe a hair dryer would soften it up enough to then scrape off. Miserable tedious job however you do it but should be worth it, if it gives you the result that you want.
20. I would just search on the bay and get some Fender or Squier replacements in the correct size, rather than fiddling about with bits of cardboard. This site in the states is good, can work out expensive with shipping etc. but I have had some bargains with some of their auction items http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-STRATosphere/...1581&_pgn=2
21. I had one for a while and liked it very much. Usual good Yamaha quality. I liked the pre amp which was surprisingly versatile. If you like semi acoustics and the price is good then go for it,
22. Nice one Pete, that really grooves. Slap and pop when done that tastefully and in that context just sounds so right, doesn't it? Unlike the nonsense we get treated to at the shows or in music shops.
23. Thanks Nick. I woke up this morning and had a small groan when I recalled my night time posting.
