Not a full gig but a half hour or so set at an open mic night in The Gate pub in North London. Didn't fancy doing this one much and my mood didn't improve when as I walking in, a huge menacing looking blighter told me "you'd better be good mate". Against my expectations it turned out to be a good evening, very well run, decent P.A. , good audience and some decent muscianship. Think we went down well, after a slightly shakey start due to our illustrious leader kicking off with Proud Mary although he told us it was to be Midnight Hour. We finished with Whole Lotta Rosie. As I was leaving, the menacing blighter, told me "I was proper", which I guess I should accept as a compliment

I think the TRB's are brilliant instruments. I've only tried four stringers but the quality was impressive

I've got to nail a set list for a depp in a week or so and was struggling a bit with a couple of numbers, so in an attempt to save myself some time I downloaded the tabs. What a miserable experience, not very accurate and I just found myself losing the will and getting very bored with it. Gone back to relying on ears and some improvising. I know TAB is a useful resource but I really can't get on with it. Right off to learn Shine by Take That and Read my Mind/Killers.

The knobs should just pull off, although some assistance might be needed with a screw driver or blade to lever them up. Obviously use a towel or piece of card or something to protect the paintwork

That's just so, like awesum man. OOh can't wait to get to rehearsal tonight, to try out all this new stuff I've learnt.

When I bought a squier affinity p bass a few months back, I thought the first job would be to change the neck but I quickly realised there was no need. The neck was good as was the fretwork. I didn't like the diddly little tuners though, so they were changed for proper Fender ones. The electrics were the weak point and I therefore replaced the lot.

It's also worth not just considering the weight but also body shape etc. Off set body shapes are a no no for me as are any basses with neck dive.

Sorry having just revisited this post I realise that my earlier reply may have come across in a sarcastic fashion.. That wasn't my intention. I should have taken the time to explain in a proper fashion, as Out7hined did

I guess you have the nitromors option or maybe a hair dryer would soften it up enough to then scrape off. Miserable tedious job however you do it but should be worth it, if it gives you the result that you want.

I would just search on the bay and get some Fender or Squier replacements in the correct size, rather than fiddling about with bits of cardboard. I had one for a while and liked it very much. Usual good Yamaha quality. I liked the pre amp which was surprisingly versatile. If you like semi acoustics and the price is good then go for it,

Nice one Pete, that really grooves. Slap and pop when done that tastefully and in that context just sounds so right, doesn't it? Unlike the nonsense we get treated to at the shows or in music shops.

Nicely recounted Nick, I really enjoyed reading that. I'm just sitting here chilling and you've got me thinking about grand parents and parents. My wife and I have lost all of ours in recent times. My mum being the only survivor now and even though we speak everyday and get together frequently, I know she feels lonely and very aware of her own mortality. Sorry going on a bit there. It's a good thing I don't drink or smoke these days, think I would be at risk of getting a bit maudlin Love the bass by the way
