1.
Just loosened the truss rod on my Ibanez by a quarter turn to give the neck a bit of relief (ooh er, missus) How long will it be before I can tell if its worked?
As long as it takes you to remeasure the gap at the point you previously measured
2. I missed this thread first time round, so I'm a bit late but wish you luck with it Rob. Hope it sells many copies.
3. I guess you have the nitromors option or maybe a hair dryer would soften it up enough to then scrape off. Miserable tedious job however you do it but should be worth it, if it gives you the result that you want.
4. I would just search on the bay and get some Fender or Squier replacements in the correct size, rather than fiddling about with bits of cardboard. This site in the states is good, can work out expensive with shipping etc. but I have had some bargains with some of their auction items http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-STRATosphere/...1581&_pgn=2
5. I had one for a while and liked it very much. Usual good Yamaha quality. I liked the pre amp which was surprisingly versatile. If you like semi acoustics and the price is good then go for it,
6. Nice one Pete, that really grooves. Slap and pop when done that tastefully and in that context just sounds so right, doesn't it? Unlike the nonsense we get treated to at the shows or in music shops.
7. Thanks Nick. I woke up this morning and had a small groan when I recalled my night time posting.
8. Nicely recounted Nick, I really enjoyed reading that. I'm just sitting here chilling and you've got me thinking about grand parents and parents. My wife and I have lost all of ours in recent times. My mum being the only survivor now and even though we speak everyday and get together frequently, I know she feels lonely and very aware of her own mortality. Sorry going on a bit there. It's a good thing I don't drink or smoke these days, think I would be at risk of getting a bit maudlin Love the bass by the way
9.
Probably the Fender Road Worn Precision that I tried out in Gig-Gear, Harlow. Only tried it cos wanted to see what all the fuss was about re the RWs, and really loved it. Didn`t however, have the money - curses
If that's the same one I played in there, know exactly what you mean. I loved the playability of it but I just can't bring myself to pay for the whole relicing thing. The sound was convincing but not the look.
10. Glad it was a good 'un and you turned a profit. How did it go being my substitute?
11.
Wasn't it Fender pickups that produced the classic, er, Fender sound?
Indeed it was. 62 ri sound exactly right to me.
12.
Did you make yours or bought?
That's how it left the Fender factory as far as I'm aware. Got it new from the Bass Centre in Wapping
13. Hope it goes well, enjoy.
14.
Wow both of those came up really good...so what's the pros and cons of nitro vs acrylic then?!
I've only used nitro. Think it's probably tougher but on the downside it stinks. Sure there will be one of the many more knowledgable BC'ers along soon.
15.
did you use nitro or acrylic?
I used satin nitro. You can see some pics of the finished article here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=136621
16. This site might have some useful info for you http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fender2.html
This place might be a useful source for you...
I had lacquer and a decal off of them. Got to say they are very good.
18. Looking lush
19.
Sound check's 7.30. See you there.
Sorry North Street, looks like you will be playing in both bands. I'm having yet another sofa and hot water bottle day. Typical really, I've not had a gig for what seems like ages, then two come up this weekend and I can't do them.
20. Pm'd you, thanks Rick. Gary
21. My daughter has a GSR200 (Ithink thats the model) that she found on ebay for about £100 with a decent hardcase. Got to say it's impressive especially after I gave it a decent set up. I went to see her play at an all dayer a few weeks back. There were a whole load of bands on playing a few numbers each. Nearly every other bass player was using a P bass and the sound was muddy and horrible. Her Ibanez cut through and each note could be heard and sat very nicely in the mix. It was an eye opener for me and I love P basses.
22. How about something from Yes? Most of Chris Squire's lines are an interesting challenge. Long Distance Runaround springs to mind. Something a bit heavier? Easy Livin' by Uriah Heep. Save a Prayer by Duran Duran for something interesting but more mellow.
23.
Sound check's 7.30. See you there.
Steve was due to phone me today but hasn't. Don't know if I'll be up for it, I injured my back on monday and have been stuck on the settee ever since. I had some physio last night which has helped but unless it improves a fair bit overnight it's not likely. Certainly won't be able to lift my rig, is there likely to be a rig there that I could use? I have a di pedal so could go via p.a if that;s feasable.
