I know that I would deffo struggle if handed a five stringer, as I've never played one. At my ripe old age think I'm just going to stick with four strings.

A couple of days back I took delivery of a MXR M80, second hand off ebay. Very impressed so far, although I guess the acid test will be gigging it. Build quality seems very good and experimenting with the pre amp at bedroom rocker levels produces some very pleasing results.
Yep, very nice. Did you have to drill new holes for the pickguard or did you get a custom one made?
The holes almost lined up but not quite, I think one of them lined up. The remainder were plugged with wood/glue and then redrilled. It's not a custom bridge, I bought it off a Bass Chatter. Think it was from a Fender.

Got this Squier Affinity a couple of months back. It came to me in a pretty sorry state and in need of some care and attention. Stripped it down and sold most of the bits on Ebay. Sourced all replacement bits and pieces on here and ebay. Screened out the cavities. One thing I really didn't like about the Squier in its original state was the silly little tuners. So I drilled out the holes to allow me to fit some proper sized ones. Fitted replacement high mass bridge. New pups, wiring, knobs and controls. New three ply pick guard to replace the really horrible single ply white one. I thought long and hard about what decal to fit, I quite fancied putting a Fender decal on but was a bit concerned about the rights and wrongs of it, as my plan was to sell the bass. Anyway if you look at the pics you can see that I'm not trying to fool anyone, well not close up anyway. So the decal went on, followed by a few coats of satin lacquer. After a few days to dry I gave it a buff and polish and then put back on to the bass, along with a new neck plate. At this stage I was really pleased with the look and just hoping that it would sound good. So on with a set of strings, the truss rod needed some adjusting. After that I adjusted the bridge for action and intonation and set the pick up height. I'm glad to say the whole project was worthwhile, to me it not only looks a whole lot better but also plays well and sounds very good. My thanks to the bass chatters who supplied some of the parts and to Out7hined for the advice/help. Looks like I'm not going to be able to sell it as my daughter has fallen for it, so I'm donating it to her.

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Never thought I would be selling this one as not only is it such a good example but also it was a gift from my wife, however, with the recent onset of arthritis to my fingers I find the slim neck difficult and uncomfortable. This bass was purchased new in March 2008 and as can be seen from the photos, it is in very good condition. I have gigged and rehearsed with it but it has been well looked after. Everything is in good working order and I’ve presently got it set up with quite a low action. Some of these VMJ’s are extremely heavy fortunately this one isn’t, weighing in at a very reasonable 9lb 6oz. ********************************* PIMPING DETAILS: I have carried out the following upgrades: Removed the original standard bridge unit and installed a Badass 11 Bridge. Removed the original Seymour Duncan designed pickups and installed a set of Wizard 64’s. Removed the original strap buttons and installed Schaller strap locks. I felt all of the above upgrades were worthwhile and have made a good instrument sound, look and feel even better. I have therefore left them on for this sale, but I am equally happy to remove them and reinstall the original components. So, I’m setting two prices for this bass. In it’s pimped/upgraded mode £310.00 In it’s original non-pimped mode £ 180.00 I haven’t at this stage factored in any shipping costs and would prefer pick up from my home. If shipping is required we can discuss arrangements.

It started life as a Squier Affinity and came to me in a sad neglected state. Now sporting new pups, neck plate, pickguard, bridge and proper size tuners.
Is that a reissue 70's bass or a very well kept 70's bass with upgraded bridge? Very nice whichever
I think it's Davids Roger Waters build and very nice it looks too. Nice one Sam. Hope you get some relief from the RA, good luck at the hospital.

Kitting out my garage as a rehearsal space

I used methods 1 and 2 from your list when I converted my garage. Worked very well with the advantage of making the whole environment feel warmer and less like a garage. -
Time to stop using Rotosounds. Need some advice!
gary mac replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Accessories and Misc
You manage to get a week of zinginess out of Rotos? I stopped using them a few years back and have since tried a whole load of different strings. Have now settled on DR Highbeams, plenty of oomph and they seem to stay nice and bright for a good long time. Not cheap initially but they last and last. Can be found cheapish on ebay from various U.S. sellers (although there has been talk of same fakes of late). If you are on a tight budget it might be worth considering the seller on Ebay who does three packs of Hartke strings for about £12. I've had them in the past and been quite happy with them.
