Thanks for letting us know Rich, so very sorry. He seemed like one thoroughly decent chap. Don't know whatelse to say. Gary
3. Insuffecient funds at present, but do like your bass. Best of luck with the sale. Dannybouy, thanks for the info on price.
4. I've tried out a couple of mexican roadworn precisions in recent weeks and got to say I've been really impressed. Up until now I've always thought the relicing thing a bit naff, but have to admit to coming around to liking it now. Also like the thought of not having to worry about collecting scars and dings when gigging. Not sure how I feel about paying £870 for a mexican instrument, but maybe that's me being a bit snobby. After all the build quality seemed very good and it wasn't heavy. Sounded pleasing both unplugged and plugged. But I've also tried a couple of American Standard Precisions and Jazzes, which I loved. So, I don't know, some contemplation and saving required. Meanwhile opinions from owners would be appreciated. All the best, Gary.
5. Won't be able to get there, but good luck. Saw Ian maclagen and his gap band there last year, cracking little venue.
6. Glad you finally got your case Tim. My daughter is after a case for her jazz, I was going to suggest this company to her, but given your experience will suggest she tries elsewhere. All the best, Gary
7. Yes, i was in the Stevenage branch a few weeks back and tried out a couple of American Standards.
8. You don't say where you are, so we don't know what is local to you. Try the Bass Merchant, Bass Direct, The Gallery. Or you could check out the Fender website, I think they list their authorised dealers. all the best, Gary
9. I have string through option on my american deluxe. I can't hear any difference at all. Maybe the constant tinnittus doesn't help though
10. I suppose in the first instance I would make sure it was actually a good one. So apart from drooling over it and getting too excited, I would closely examine every bit of it and then play it, both unplugged and through an amp. If all was to my satisfaction and it really was the one that I had always wanted, then I would be happy to sell/exchange other instruments to fund the purchase. Finally, it's highly unlikely that you will never want another bass, although that is a good line to use when discussing these sort of purchases with partners/wifes/girlfriends etc. Good luck and enjoy the decision making process.
11. Hugely impressed. It just looks so good. I've been considering this sort of project and was going to ask on the forum if anyone had done this sort of thing and whether it was worth the effort. There are so many necks and bodies on ebay and I can't afford a genuine vintage fender, so maybe I will give it a go. Thanks for the inspirtation. Gary
12.
I still miss Bassist
Same here. But I still have every issue
13. I had to do this last year for a depping situation. My initial thought was to say no, because there would only be one rehearsal a month before the gig and there were only one or two numbers that I knew out of the whole set. But I decided to do it and have to say it was ok. A good exercise in getting focused and added thirty or so songs to my repertoire. They actually did do most of the numbers as recorded and in the original key, which did make the whole process easier. I'm so glad that I did it and really enjoyed the gigs.
14. I had to learn this for an audition a few months back. Struggled a bit, but once nailed it was great fun. The tabs I found for it at the time were far from accurate though, so I just kept on listening to it over and over. I think one of the tab sites was bass masta or something like that.
15. Looking good. My bro used to own one of those vinyl machines, so we were always doing that sort of stuff, good fun
16.
Waste of time, yet again. Not impressed with the band scene so far up here. Basically, they can't make a decision but want to leave it for 8 weeks or so. It's times like these you have to ask yourself is it all worth it? Eg the effort and practice in making yourself stand out from the usual dull root root ex rhythm guitarist bass players. Not impressed.
Feel for you mate. Stick with it though, somewhere out there is the right band for you. Hopefully you will find them sooner rather than later.
17.
Oh dear,i have GAS for one with a burgundy finish now...it looks like a very nice quilt maple body?..which i dont have
There's a four stringer on ebay at the moment, well there was this morning when i did a search.
18. Is there another venue you could try, perhaps one devoid of dick heads. Sorry to hear that you had that sort of experience.
19. Check out the Squier website. I've got the vmj and it's a damn fine bass for the dosh.
20. Can't imagine it will make any noticable difference to the balance issue, but like you said it is a worthwhile upgrade anyway.
21.
7 nation army by the White stripes hopefully tomorrow night at the young age of 38!!! Playing in my local pub -the Gibraltar castle in Harpenden Fingers crossed it goes well... I'm a tad nervous already.
Good luck, sure you will love it.
22. 1973 or 74 at Waltham Abbey town hall, a sort of battle of the bands thing. Sporting a Roger Glover stylee hat and crushed velvet loon pants. First number was Deep Purples Space Truckin'. Epiphone semi acoustic bass. Selmer Goliath 4 x 10" cab. 50 Top amp
23. I do like it. Has a certain charm. Well done looks like a good job.
