  1. Thanks to you all for the info and pointers. All the best, Gary.
  2. Hi. I'm working my way through learning a new set for some upcoming depps. One of the numbers is Starlight by Muse, which has been quite an enjoyable challenge, mostly due to the unusual chord progessions. Anyway just wondering about making my sound a bit more authentic, so it would be appreciated if someone could shed some light on how the bass sound is achieved on the record. Just curious really, as not sure that I can justify the expense of an effects unit for one number. All the best Gary.
  3. Amazing the difference some decent pics make, I'm tempted
  4. Good luck to you sir, well done. Hope you enjoy
  5. I just hate the set up these days. Played an open air gig on saturday, just a town centre fun day. The set up went on for about two hours, this was accompanied for the duration by one particular guitarist showing off his many riffs and solos and just generally annoying the hell out of punters and band members alike. Guess I wouldn't mind the long set up too much if it made for a good sound, but the sound from fold back speakers was just terrible, which caused major problems for the drummer and myself once the singer ditched the set list and launched in to numbers that we hadn't even rehearsed. Then for the last set a drunken trout from the audience was invited up to provide backing vocals. Of course we could hear her perfectly, the problem being, that although she thought she was a star, she actually made a noise like a cat having it's tail nailed to a tree. Oh joy.
  6. Nice, nothing wrong with the natural look. Got a few myself.
  7. Guess I would feel the same as you, sounds v suspect. Like you say it is a shame and it does look so good. Maybe he will change his mind if he gets no joy with his current stipulations. Cheers, Gary.
  8. Thanks for the heads up. I've been keen to get one of these for a long time. Why do you feel it's suspect? (pm me if you feel its more appropriate). All the best Gary.
  9. Damn you OTPJ, I was convinced that I was all gassed out, now look what what you've done. planning my campaign now, what I can sell and what to tell the good wife.
  10. First gig in six months last night. A school fund raiser bingo night. Not an appreciative audience, but it was good to play again, rather than just rehearse. We were pretty tight all things considered. Aint it a joyous thing when the bass and drums just lock in And we got fed and watered.
  11. Good news, pleased for you. Enjoy
  12. Yes, mine had the duncans in originally. Honestly, it is money well spent. I'm sure you will not regret it. The wizard chaps are very helpful. I bugged them with a few phone calls before actually ordering, they always patiently answered my questions.
  13. Hey Mr T. I put a set in mine last year, it transformed a decent sounding bass into a real belter. Plenty of output and fullness. Don't know where you are based, but you are welcome to come and try mine as a comparison. All the best Gary.
  14. loving all three of them. Very, very nice.
  15. Might be a fender, but it still has that instantly recognisable Chris Squire sound.
  16. No never encountered that. I suspect that Leo probably tried it all those years back though, before settling on the configuration that we all know
  17. I have just T cutted my black pickguard as recommended by Mrcrow. It has come up a treat, not completely removed all scratches, but think I ran out of elbow grease. It looked so good I was enthused enough to polish the remainder of the body, neck and fret board (not with T cut). Took off the strings and boiled em up. Oven dried them and re fitted. Adjusted string height intonation etc. and generally fiddled about all day. Looking and sounding great.
  18. Still loving Argus, but still not managed to nail all of his bass lines. Great news, hope you enjoy.
  19. I got the Squier modded jazz about a year ago as a back up bass, I've ended up using it for most rehearsals and all but one gig over the last year. Play it most days. Can't fault it, apart from lack of decent screening. Planning to sort it out soon. The pickups were ok, but have upgraded to wizards, mostly cos I wanted to, not because it was essential.
  20. I've always found Denmark St. to be high end prices for middle of the road kit.
  21. Yes it's a cracking place, reminded me of the Bass Centre in it's heyday. I went in to kill a bit of time while my good wife was shopping. Three cups of coffee later and I ended up with a shuttle 6 and mark bass cab. Want to go back, but just can't risk it at the moment. Top blokes.
  22. Not sure if this is what you want, but I've got operating instruction manual for gp12smx and gp7sm (applies to all sm and smx series models apparently). Can't recal what year I purchased my trace but think it was early nineties. If you want it pm me your details and I'll post it on to you.
  23. That just looks so nice. Strange really a few years back the last thing I wanted was a fender of any sort and was always gassing for an exotic active model, the more knobs, switches and lights the better. Gone completely the other way now: loving passive basses, minimum hardware and conservative looking. Think its the same with my playing. Nothing fancy and hopefully just what the songs need, no slapping, tapping and all the other stuff I used to try to fit in. Certainly get so many more compliments these days from other band members. A couple more years and it will be root notes only with the occasional visit to a 5th Do you park it on the stairs, prior to taking it up to bed Help is available
  24. I've always meant to look into the possibility of installing a switching option to allow passive use on mine. What do you reckon, is it feasible?
