  1. Thanks I love it. Although it needs regular oiling, because a previous owner allowed it to get sunburnt (I'm guessing that's the cause) and it starts to look a little bleached out, particularly on the lower horn. A quick rub over with a little lemon oil and it looks great for a few weeks. All part of the charm of an old instrument and it sounds awesome. People don't believe its a passive bass. Cheers Gary.
  2. Plenty of viewings, but no offers. So a price reduction bump. £100.00
  3. This afternoon I've been learning the Small Faces Itchycoo Park, Bob Sieger Still the Same and some tracks by Bedouin Soundclash. All very different.
  4. Hi Stu. My daughters partner (drummer) has been researching this and was telling me of a web site that goes into great detail, with specs and prices etc. I can find out about said site and forward it on, let me know. All the best Gary.
  5. What a glum day, thought I would cheer myself up with some happy tunes. Dug out one of those freebie cd's of summer tunes. Lovely Day by Bill Withers came on, so I picked up my bass to play along and finding it a bit of a challenge. Not so much the notes, but the timing. Anyway, enjoying it and its cheered me up. Who was the bassist? How about the tunes you lot choose to help raise the spirits on a glum day. Another one for me is Roam, by the B52'. All the best Gary. P.S. maybe this should be in off topic forum, apologies if so.

  8. [attachment=12985:ebay07_009.jpg][attachment=12984:ebay07_008.jpg] Decided to sell some of my old kit to fund another bout of GAS. This unit was purchased new for a now abandoned studio project. The results from it were excellent. This is in perfect condition and working order. I am not able to detail all the technical spec, but sure it's available on line. I am happy for any potential purchaser to visit for a test run, so long as they know how to use it, as I don't. Have decided on £75.00 as a very fair price. Will now accept £60.00

  10. I really want one. My Trace combo and extension cab are starting to give my knackered back some real grief. Let us know how you get on with it.
  11. Nice one, enjoy. And put up a pic ^_^
  12. I'm using a trace 1 x 15" combo and find that it really does vary from venue to venue. But I usually start off with the graphic set in what I suppose roughly resembles the letter m, plus a bit of compression. I think the biggest impact as far as punchiness is concerned has been the recent addition of a trace 2 x 10". I have always been pleased with the combo, but the extra cab has really made a difference. Not enjoying the weight though, most of the past week was spent in mucho pain from loading the car after last weeks gig. Think I will be selling it all in the next few weeks to add to funds for some mark bass kit. All the best, Gary.
  13. Welcome. You're probably on the way to having less money! Warning,DO NOT visit the for sale sections
  14. Wizard for me too. Andy is a very helpful chap. I ordered a set for my jazz and they were delivered the next day.
  15. Played a garden party yesterday. EIGHT of our six string friends! Just the one bassist, me. There was always one or more of the guitarists playing the wrong chord and all trying to out volume each other. Feeling very frazzled today
  16. sorry, can't help with tab, but great choice of song though.
  17. I'm totally exhausted this morning. Played at a classic car show during the day, about three hours. Home for a bite and then a party bash in the evening for two hours or so. I won't be touching my bass today. Think a fishing trip is called for tonight.
  18. It's finally sorted. Purchased a replacement volume pot for the neck pup. Used the bass last night at rehearsal and it sounded great, so chuffed. Thanks again for all the tips and advice.
  19. Burpster, thanks for the reply, I have had a look at the wiring diagram. The only difference I can see on my bass is that the black leads from the pups are both soldered on to the control for the neck volume. That is how it was originally, so I've just done the same. Yes, I have just soldered the white lead to the centre tab. When I now test with a metre there is no reading to that centre tab, so I guess I must have damaged it during the soldering process. Dont know whether to get a replacement control, but given that will entail additional soldering and the risk of damaging the new one, maybe I should get someone else to do it for me. Thanks again, as always on this forum the level of help and advice has been great. All the best Gary.
  20. Ignore that last post. I've just had another look at the pic of the strat pot and realise that I had lost the plot when first viewing it.
  21. Thanks escholl. Yes I do want to stick with it and hopefully it will be rewarding. It looks like the lugs on the strat pots are facing downwards as opposed to mine which are facing upwards, if you know what I mean. Is it just a case of bending them up? Guess this is part of the learning curve that you mention, making myself look like a total dipstick.
  22. Don't you just hate it, when what you think will be a simple job turns out to be such a pain. Trouble with camera now, so can't put up a photo Earlier this morning I recalled that my father in law had given me a meter, so after a bit of frenzied searching I found it. I don't really know how to interpret the readings. But, there is no signal to the centre lug on the pot for the neck pup. There is a reading on all the other lugs and the case of the pot. and also on the bridge pot. So, I am assuming that somehow I've damaged the pot during the soldering process. I guess the next question is: best place to get a new neck pot or whole new control panel? The bass is a Squier Modified Jazz and I promise not to do any more mods. Thanks again for all the help so far, must say I feel a total numpty.
  23. I can only play my ozric stuff when everyone else is out, my wife hates it Really like the bass playing, didn't know he was no longer with us.
  24. thanks for all the replies chaps. Guess I should buy a meter before trying anything else, or maybe just get a grown up to fix it for me. I was really hoping to carry out this work myself for the satisfaction, but I'm finding it a struggle. Its hard to hold the soldering iron, the solder, the wire and the all important magnifying glass! At risk of making myself look even more of a doughnut brain, could it be the wrong type of solder? The one I'm using is 5 core solder. Thanks again.
  25. Hope someone can help a stressed out bass chatter. I've just taken delivery of a pair of Wizard pickups for my Jazz and decided I fancied the challenge of installing them myself. So, yesterday I purchased a soldering iron and this morning started the procedure. I am starting to wish I hadn't now. Finally got it all soldered up and put back together, but the neck pickup is not functioning. Checked it all out again and the problem seems to be with the white cable that I've soldered to the middle lug of the neck pot. Just can't seem to get it right. If I attach the white cable to the lug with the red cables (That feed off to the bridge pot) it works but with no control to the volume. Hope I have explained myself clearly, any help would be hugely appreciated. Cheers, all the best Gary.
