1.
Nice one Gary. I've found that there are plenty of great 70s Fenders out there that buck the cliched view on them.
Cheers Tim. As you say there are plenty of great ones. I was playing my old 75 P bass earlier and that is another really, really good one. Light weight, resonant, punchy pups and all very nicely put together.
2. Thanks gents. It does play really well, the pick ups are sweet. The keyboard warriors who constantly tell us how awful the Fender output was in the seventies, would have to eat their words if they were to have a play on this one. I will give it a proper set up and a new set of D'Addarios in the next day or two and then just enjoy.
3. I've been playing a bit more guitar lately, so treated myself to this all original '78.
4. If wanted a non Fender precision, it would have to be G&L, either an SB1 or LB100 Enjoy your spend.
5. Maybe the master volume pot, a lot of the earlier models suffered with a dodgy pot. My one had it, mostly a severe crackle but the volume did drop on one occasion, I had the pot on my one replaced, under warranty and all was good for evermore.
6.
I've got plenty of packing stuff to make it secure. I've never had any problems. I'll be happy to drop by tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks for the offer Rich, much appreciated but I have enough at the moment.
7.
Where are you located?
I'm in Hertdordshire, bit of a trek from your neck of the woods. I'm happy to engulf it in bubble wrap and a sturdy box for posting.
8. Chris was a gent to deal with and I'm very happy to add him to my list of Bass Chat good guys.
9.
hrmm , Yup 1.99 inc postage for Vintage Cream .... done deal , Consider this thread closed .
Great. Their delivery is usually very quick.
10. Black dog music on EBay sell them for nuppence
11. Very handsome. I gigged one of these for a while, it had a Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickup and the sound was very pleasing
12.
Phil at Guitarbuild made the body for me. Early 50s repro with the oversized neck pocket lip and the router hump in the lower cutaway.
Thanks Kevin. That paint job does look really good, I keep on revisiting your pics
13. I've have aged some hardware fairly successfully in the past. Not heavy relic though, more of a subtle rounding off of edges and a few little dinks. Let me know where the body was from, if you don't mind.
14. That looks great Kevin, love it. I've been contemplating a tele build for a while now, you might have just given me the inspiration to get cracking. Are you planning on ageing the hardware?
15. Welcome Bob from another Herts bass chap. Enjoy the site and get yourself along to the Herts bass bash later in the year.
