1. Bass is my thing really, certainly the only instrument I'm confident/good enough to play in public. At home though I like to play acoustic guitar and mandolin.
2. I’ve decided to sell my rather lovely, all original old Jazz. It’s an extremely good example complete with its original hard case and although the logo is missing, it is otherwise in great condition. When I purchased the bass it was advertised as a 66 but to be totally accurate, I’m going to list it as an early 67. Neck and electrics etc are dated 66, though the pups are January 67. The nitro finish has aged well, there are the expected signs of wear, some dings, scrapes and an area of buckle rash. Frets, truss rod and hardware are great and everything works as it should. The tone control knob does have a little damage with a missing section of plastic, this can be seen in the relevant photograph. I did consider replacing it but given that it still functions perfectly well, decided that keeping it all original was preferable. Solder is perfect and unbroken, the electrics work perfectly. Although I removed them as soon as I got the bass home, it has obviously always worn the ash trays. The bridge therefore, has remained very clean and easily adjustable, with none of the corrosion and gunge often found on basses of this vintage. I’ve got it set up with just the slightest of relief to the neck, a lowish action and fitted with D’addario Nickels. In the photo showing the rear of the head stock, a couple of screw holes can be seen, evidence of where, a previous owner installed a set of tuners, with a smaller footprint and maybe lighter in weight. Seems a strange sort of mod, given that the bass is light and balances well as it is, they must have come to the same conclusion, having reinstalled the lovely originals. Here is the spec: Sunburst over Alder. Maple neck. Rosewood Fretboard, radius 7.25”. Block and Bound. Width at Nut 38 mm. Lollypop tuners. Weight 8lb 8oz. £4,395 Cash or Bank Transfer. Collected from my place in Herts. Although I would much prefer the bass to be viewed and collected, please contact me to discuss postage and insurance. 3.
Pah! You can't fool me with that cheap shot ... that ain't no '78 - I can tell.
Good to see that you're on the ball today Jack
4. How an Alder bodied P bass looks with the finish removed.
5.
Jammed it last night at rehearsal and I played disco style octaves which actually suited it. Of course non of the musical ludites noticed my musical brilliance :-)
That's exactly what I did when playing this with a Classic Rock band a while back. It cheered me up
6.
A lot is said on forums but you won't truly know until you try it yourself.
Have to agree with the Burrito
7. I'm impressed with these strings, been on my P bass for a couple of months now and still sound and feel great.
8.
I commented on wateroftynes post that the insides seemed well thought out or better than many others. Also non cluttered, proper through hole components. Should be more reliable and easier to work on. I'm not an expert but with common sense and some knowledge you can still see which amps have a good design and the ones which have design faults or traits likely to cause difficult service. These amps seemed to be good. Many amps are let down be very cramped surface mounted boards designed to be made as quick as possible and throw in maybe one or two silly design traits. Mainly all due to cost cutting and sometimes lack of forethought. And with the bigger companies it really is sometimes about the margins. Not saying all surface mounted, complex and often cluttered pcb gear is bad.
Yes but more importantly, they come in some lovely colours and finishes
9.
One feature of this amp that I don't think has been commented on yet is the absence of surface mounted components. From WOT's thread photos the PCBs all appear to be hand soldered through hole construction which are a whole lot easier to service and repair than high density SMT. If I didn't already own a shed full of heads I would have one on order as they are in a different class to the easy to produce, almost impossible to repair units that now prevail. HB have certainly put a great deal of effort into the aesthetics of their amps which I really like and it will be interesting to see if they continue to offer the variety of cosmetic and casing options once they become more established.
They are very well established in their home country though, so I suspect that those options will continue to be offered.
10. If they are still crap after three years, then that's unlikely to improve. That would be fine, if you were happy with it and just purely enjoying having a practice/jam with them but obviously you're not. Time to contact the other band I reckon
11. You'll soon get the knack with the cover. Very chuffed with my one, that I got a few weeks back. Did you really have to start another Barefaced thread though
12. I've been learning Locked out of Heaven today, in readiness for next weeks band rehearsal. Most enjoyable.
13. I had a Bass Collection that would certainly fit the bill in terms of sound and weight. Don't know if the look would suit but don't see why not. Recently I've needed to go lighter for gigging. Due to the nature of the venues that I'm currently playing, not keen on taking along my lighter vintage Fenders or my very lovely Dingwall. So, I've put together a P bass, with G&L pups and a Fender Japanese neck. The lightest P bass body I could find was a Squier, so that's what I went with. Sounds great and is only slightly over 8lb.
14. Another BC'er I am happy to recommend. A pleasure to trade with, thanks Bill
15.
Please run back and construct that sentence so it can be understood by humans.
16. Not experienced it myself, so can't offer any reassurance but do wish you well mate. Hope you are out of pain and on the mend very soon.
17. Having met Chris a couple of nights back, I'm very happy to start a Feedback thread for him. He contacted me, we agreed a price and a time for collection. Just the way it should be. Another of the good guys, great at comms and no messing when it came to payment. Deal with confidence Bass Chatters
18. I sold my Markbass 2x10 HF cab a couple of nights back. Before it went, I thought it would be good to hear it one last time and so I hooked it up to Handbox 400. Happy to report that it works very well with Markbass. I've been around this forum for a long time and I'm pretty sure that up until now I've not used the "heft" word. It's time for me to use it now, this amp has HEFT
19. I've had a few of them from the Ebay seller, Guitars Electric. I've fitted them on Squiers and Japanese Fender bodies, these were the thirteen hole P bass ones, fitted perfectly, with no alterations or drilling of holes.
20.
Nothing goes much lower than a standard BBOT. Shimming is the answer
Also if the saddle screws are protruding and shredding your hand, maybe purchase some shorter ones or cut down the existing ones.
