1. Good advice from the Chilmiester I agree that it is overpriced, although I guess it depends just how good it feels to play. If I found a 66 P that was a refin but sympathetically done, I could live with it, so long as everything else was good and most importantly it played well. I would probably be willing to pay about half the price of an all original example, so nearer to £2,000.
2. Another cracking looking instrument Si, I'm tempted but all spent out. Good luck with your sale
3. Welcome back Pete, you're in the right place
4. Just learnt one of his numbers for a recent gig.
5. Well done Mick, look forward to seeing you there.
6. Do you mean an artificially reliced instrument or a naturally road worn example? I've only had the natural variety and I still treat them in exactly the same caring fashion as I would a brand new unblemished example. Having said that, I guess it wouldn't be so upsetting if one of my already worn models did pick up some new marks.
7.
Out of interest, how do you older guys (older age bracket, not older than me ) get on with finding people to play with; I am struggling a bit.
It can be difficult. If I look at ads put up by players of my sort of vintage (50's) they almost always seem to be blues, classic rock or very middle of the road, none of which interest me.
8. I need to get myself along to one of these sort of geek fests Looks great and some lovely kit on show.
9.
Sold.
Excellent, can't believe it was here for so long.
10.
Oi certainly do Mr.Gary Mac! I went for about 30 years doing the day job with short, neatly trimmed hair and no sidies then, just prior to retirement in 2010 a couple of photos, including this one, were discovered and my sons and colleagues dared me to grow them again. So I did....and b*ll*cks to the lot of you! Yesterday I went to the barbers for a tidy up and I will admit that even after the haircut, my hair and sidies are longer today than they are in that photo. However, all is now silver and grey, a small area of thinning at the back of the scalp and the length of the sidies has increased on account of the fact that the curvature around my face has increased due to serious fatness.
Good for you, what's the point in growing old sensibly My area of thinning at the back is expanding at a fair old rate, almost as quickly as the bloody stuff grows in my ears
11. That is a great pic. Don't you still have those side burns Mr. Jazzneck?
12. I've used a fair bit of this since having it recommended to my by BC'er Grand Wazoo and can confirm it works a treat.
13. Shonks, I've moved this to GD. For what it's worth, I think sellers should put a location, particularly if it is collection only. My feeling is that it should not be mandatory though.
14. Good advice from ras52 but it wouldn't be natural to stay out of the Market place Welcome to the forum and to the world of bass, enjoy your journey.
15. You promised not to tell.
16. What Discreet said, including the gross bit
17. My white G&L SB1 has become known as the bra worrier
18. Well seeing that it's withdrawn, I had better do my modding duty and close it down
19. Well if you are happy to wield the soldering iron, take some close up pics first, which will help massively if you forget what cable goes where. Check out which pot you need, there will be a set of numbers on it as identity. Order yourself a replacement pot, cts are great and not much dosh. Fire up the soldering iron. If you are not concerned about keeping all the rest original, you could get a drop in, complete new wiring loom and controls from our very own Kiogon, no soldering required.
20. I do the same as PaulWarning, sound check without ear plugs but then use them for the gig. I enjoy playing at what I feel is a sensible volume, if the band really gels and is a tight unit, then it will sound powerful, which to my way of thinking is much better than just being loud.
21. Very authentic looking, love the level of relicing.
22. Happy to recommend Tim as another of the good guys to deal with.
23. Good day Rich. Does this happen with one particular make of string?
24. Looks great, a very tidy job and the photos aren't bad at all
25.
I agree with the above, but unfortunately there are songs I just will not play and so I don't 'do' covers bands. They include, but are not limited to: Sex On Fire, All Right Now, Mustang Sally, Mr Brightside, Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Home Alabama, All The Small Things, Get Lucky, Honky Tonk Woman, Brown Sugar, Play That Funky Music, Creep, Smoke On The Water, Hotel California, Superstition, Proud Mary, Wonderful Tonight, Born To Be Wild, Wonderwall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Moves Like Jagger... and yes, bleeding Summer of Fecking 69. There you have it. There are lots more but I can't think of them right now...
I guess I won't be asking you to dep for me then
