I love their Pro Steels, great strings. I had given up on Nickel strings in recent years, due to getting an allergic reaction when using them. My Jazz got a set of the D'addario nickels at the Herts Bass Bash and I was pleased to find, no allergic reaction and they sound and feel just lovely. Also their customer service is first rate.

Thanks for all the favourable posts gents.
How does the sound of the single PUP passive version compare with the twin PUP active? I find myself horribly drawn to this
In answer to your question Chris, I've not actually ever played a twin pup Wal, so I can't properly answer your question Being serious though, plugged in there's no mistaking that it's a Wal. I'm really not sure about moving this on. If I'm still as uncertain in the morning I suspect it might get withdrawn.

Wal Pro 1 1983. Four string, fretted. After much deliberation, I’ve decided it’s time to move on this lovely bass, although I reserve the right to change my mind. I’m not gigging with it and only get it out periodically to give it a polish and a play. I’m in no rush to sell and if it doesn’t go, well it’s not going to be a hardship to keep it a while longer, even it only gets occasional use these days. It was originally supplied by Wal to the shop, Gigsounds on the 26[sup]th[/sup] June 1983. I have owned it since around 1990/91. It is a passive bass, with the single Wal pick up and a series/parallel switch. Paul from Wal tells me that the body is Ash with some sort of Rosewood veneer. The fretboard is a lovely dark Indian Rosewood. As far as I know it is all original, with the exception of the bridge securing screws. I replaced them, as someone had managed to burr and damage them. For a Wal it is very light at just 9lb 6oz. Currently strung with a new set of D’Addario Pro Steel Rounds. Nice low action and buzz free. Frets are all good. Controls and electrics all present and correct. I’m selling with a decent quality hard case, although it is not an original Wal one. A previous owner did not treat it with kid gloves, so it does have some dings and signs of wear. Visible in one of the photos is an area of wear by the pickup and a couple of holes, presumably from a thumb rest. There are a couple of cracks within the lacquer on the rear of the head stock, this is fairly typical, I believe, on Wals of this vintage. There are also a couple of areas to the front of the bass that periodically fade. Not sure what has caused this but it is easily remedied with a quick wipe with Lemon Oil, I do this every few months to keep it looking good. There are plenty of photos down below. I haven’t got any under the pick guard or neck pocket pics but if required I can strip it down and take some. My price is a firm £2,100 Collection much preferred from my place in Herts. I will post if required but only with proper insurance and via the courier of my choice. Let me know if you want this option and I will provide a price. Any other questions or to arrange a visit please pm me. Now for the pics:

I was planning on buying a Fender Mexican P bass as a back up but I just find G&L's too hard to resist Happy to have another in the house, an 89 SB2
They're undoubtably great basses. I've played one, but I like to play chords, so they don't work for me.
chords Fortunately they work for me but then I only play chords on my mandolin and acoustic guitar

Fender Reissue Tolex Case I've knocked a tenner off, so now its £105 Made in the USA by G&G For Jazz or P bass. As new condition, genuine Fender vintage reissue case, with keys. I can only spot one very slight blemish, which is on the underside and probably there from new. It is just visible in the second photo, just below the handle. I’ve only had this a few months and it’s not been out of the house. Purchased with a particular bass in mind but that has now sold. Price is £105 Collected from me in Herts. Or I can box it up and post. Charge will be an additional £15.99 Bank Transfer or cash on collection. Pay Pal if you’re willing to pay the fee. I'm not usually a fan of pointy basses but have to say that one is a handsome beast

Very happy to recommend Mark. No messing about, good comms and a great chap to deal with.

The usual difficult load in and out, due to drunken punters gathering around the doorway and in a little narrow corridor, which is just about wide enough for my cabs. We played well, although I had a couple of brain blanks, strangely, in the numbers that I've played countless times in just about every covers band that I've ever been in. I'll put it down to the strong pain killers, combined with Sudofed and Imodium Getting a bit jaded with the pub scene. Roll on next Saturday when we do it all over again in another pub just down the road.

The position of the pups has a big impact.

Phil Jones Bighead Headphone Amp. In almost perfect condition, other than a little dink to the top front edge, which can be seen in the pic down below. Here is the blurb from the Phil Jones site. Product Description The PJB BigHead is not big at all. In fact it is barely larger than an iPhone. The “Big” is about the sound. It functions first as an awesome bass headphone amplifier with 2 band EQ ( +/- 18db @ 60 Hz and +/- 18dB @ 5KHz) set for optimization of all kinds of bass instruments. Unlike consumer electronic MP3 players and smart phones that have very small power output of around 20 milli-watt to drive headphones, the BigHead has more than 10 times the power. This contributes to a far more exhilarating listening experience with increased resolution and dynamics. Even if you are just listening to music, the BigHead will be a great improvement to your regular headphones, adding more listening pleasure. A more important function of the BigHead is being a recording tool both in digital and analog. As an Analog Digital Converter, it has the finest BURR BROWN digital components. The USB out is 48KHz 16Bit digital conversion. In other words, recording your bass onto Pro Tools will give you exactly what you wish for and absolutely nothing else. Maybe you need an analog pre amp. The Big Head can do that too. It will provide up to 12dB of gain and better than 96dB signal to noise ratio. Just use the headphone out jack to feed an amp or mixer. It has an internal lithium-ion rechargeable battery that is fed by its USB jack, so any computer or appropriate cell phone charger can charge it in less than 3 hours, but it can play for up to 8 hours. I purchased this very recently when I was recovering from surgery and suffering from insomnia. I thought that it would be brilliant for nocturnal use and that I would be able to practice without disturbing anyone else. Anyway the insomnia has gone away and I’m back to playing during daylight hours when my wife is at work. So rather than hang on to it, it makes sense to move it on and put the dosh towards an amp purchase. Complete with the carry case, instructions, various cables and original box. £120.00 inc p&p. Payment by bank transfer preferred or cash on collection, less a fiver for postage.
Sorry to report that he was ever so slightly patronising about string tensions. And further to previous comments the 'lad' in there didn't seem to have much of a clue. I'm guessing from the amount of music shops I've seen disappear its a very tough business - you need to be polite with well trained staff.
Think he can maybe get a bit over enthusiastic for some Our very own Marcus Bell is a staff member, well he was when I paid a visit.
They're a bit pricey but I've been thinking about getting one of these. Being PJB I would think the build quality is good. Are you happy with it? Did you get it from Bass Direct?
I think they are pricey but then the quality is good. I didn't get it from Bass Direct as I bought it used.
