1. The usual difficult load in and out, due to drunken punters gathering around the doorway and in a little narrow corridor, which is just about wide enough for my cabs. We played well, although I had a couple of brain blanks, strangely, in the numbers that I've played countless times in just about every covers band that I've ever been in. I'll put it down to the strong pain killers, combined with Sudofed and Imodium Getting a bit jaded with the pub scene. Roll on next Saturday when we do it all over again in another pub just down the road.
2. The position of the pups has a big impact.
3.
A set of Slade and a set of other 70s/glam material for a tribute band gig on Sunday.
Great fun I should think

6. Phil Jones Bighead Headphone Amp. In almost perfect condition, other than a little dink to the top front edge, which can be seen in the pic down below. Here is the blurb from the Phil Jones site. Product Description The PJB BigHead is not big at all. In fact it is barely larger than an iPhone. The “Big” is about the sound. It functions first as an awesome bass headphone amplifier with 2 band EQ ( +/- 18db @ 60 Hz and +/- 18dB @ 5KHz) set for optimization of all kinds of bass instruments. Unlike consumer electronic MP3 players and smart phones that have very small power output of around 20 milli-watt to drive headphones, the BigHead has more than 10 times the power. This contributes to a far more exhilarating listening experience with increased resolution and dynamics. Even if you are just listening to music, the BigHead will be a great improvement to your regular headphones, adding more listening pleasure. A more important function of the BigHead is being a recording tool both in digital and analog. As an Analog Digital Converter, it has the finest BURR BROWN digital components. The USB out is 48KHz 16Bit digital conversion. In other words, recording your bass onto Pro Tools will give you exactly what you wish for and absolutely nothing else. Maybe you need an analog pre amp. The Big Head can do that too. It will provide up to 12dB of gain and better than 96dB signal to noise ratio. Just use the headphone out jack to feed an amp or mixer. It has an internal lithium-ion rechargeable battery that is fed by its USB jack, so any computer or appropriate cell phone charger can charge it in less than 3 hours, but it can play for up to 8 hours. I purchased this very recently when I was recovering from surgery and suffering from insomnia. I thought that it would be brilliant for nocturnal use and that I would be able to practice without disturbing anyone else. Anyway the insomnia has gone away and I’m back to playing during daylight hours when my wife is at work. So rather than hang on to it, it makes sense to move it on and put the dosh towards an amp purchase. Complete with the carry case, instructions, various cables and original box. £120.00 inc p&p. Payment by bank transfer preferred or cash on collection, less a fiver for postage.
7. My 9lb 6oz of Wal loveliness. No neck dive, no neck twist and I happen to think it's a loverly bit of wood This will be my one and only contribution to this thread.
8. No argument from me.
9. He is a very fine fellow, who makes great wiring kits and is a forum member.
10.
Sorry to report that he was ever so slightly patronising about string tensions. And further to previous comments the 'lad' in there didn't seem to have much of a clue. I'm guessing from the amount of music shops I've seen disappear its a very tough business - you need to be polite with well trained staff.
Think he can maybe get a bit over enthusiastic for some Our very own Marcus Bell is a staff member, well he was when I paid a visit.
11.
They're a bit pricey but I've been thinking about getting one of these. Being PJB I would think the build quality is good. Are you happy with it? Did you get it from Bass Direct?
I think they are pricey but then the quality is good. I didn't get it from Bass Direct as I bought it used.

Splendid looker, welcome to the world of the P
13. Recently and for the foreseeable, I will mostly be taking the lightest.
14.
Aged blonde and proper tort.
I'm with Discreet on this one More importantly though, it has to be what you like, not us lot.
15.
Put it between two heavy sheets of glass in the sunlight. Leave it a while. Sorted.
Might have to wait until next Spring though
16.
How about the scratchplate though? Seriously though, did you heat it whilst it was screwed to the guitar or off the guitar with some freestyle bending? (if that's a thing)
No, you certainly want it off the guitar.
17. I had success using a hairdrier and some gentle persuasion .
18.
I like the look of those, how does it sound?
I'm impressed with it Rob. It certainly gives IPads and IPods etc. a boost. I've tried a little bit of recording my bass using it onto Audacity on the P.C. which worked well. When using it to play bass and listen via headphones, I've found that I have to back off the volume and gain and also keep the bass lowish, otherwise there is a little too much distortion. Be interesting to know whether things can be turned up more, if using the Phil Jones headphones.
19. I just treated myself to a Phil Jones Headphone amp. Covers all the requirements that you listed.
20. Another BC'er that I'm happy to recommend. Very helpful, friendly and a man who knows how to pack a bass for safe transportation.
21. I guess if it was me and really couldn't decide, I would be making a list of the pro and cons and considering practicalities. Also I would be thinking about where I would most likely be using it the most e.g. If I knew that most of my gigs were to be in cramped pub type situations, with difficult load in/outs, then I wouldn't be going for a big valve amp and an 8x10" set up.
22.
Fingers, strings, pickups/electrics, amp, cab. I agree quality cables are important, which is why I buy from obbm, a member of this lounge. But do cables have a major influence on tone? In my opinion, no.
Same for me. Purchase from obbm. I also agree that that cables don't have an influence on tone. Although of course, a decent cable will accurately transmit the lovely tone, generated by your choice of instrument and strings etc.
