1.
They were on the line up at knebworth in 79
That's right, they were playing as I arrived. In fact they were near the end of their set as I recall.
 2. Not er....exactly last night, but my last gig was a blast. I stood in for the bass player in Sack Sabbath (Black Sabbath tribute) last week at MFN Club in Nottingham. Great turnout and a great time had by all three bands who played. I only had one rehearsal so it was a bit testing! lol Here is a bit of footage for your amusement........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoJLuE7nPXM
 3. I've been lucky enough to see Francis Dunnery playing with It Bites and one of his solo gigs too, he's a wonderful guitarist. I also saw him once when I was on holiday in Rhodes Town. He was wearing a black leather jacket (looked like the same as the one on the Once Around The World album cover)......on the beach front!
 4. Myself, ("Diamond" Geezer Butler) will be covering for my mate Dan Bird (Geezer "I Can't Believe It's Not" Butler) on bass in the Black Sabbath tribute band Sack Sabbath, this Saturday. 5.
Of course you don't have to be in a trib exclusively, as Tony C pointed out he was doing other projects at the same time as the Budgie trib so if you happen to pick a more obscure band that you mainly do for th elove of it then with the right logistics the various band members can still do other covers or originals bands and maintain a full diary. I think some people might actually prefer this, I would. The thought of doing just 1 trib act all the time and nothing else wouldn't keep me interested for very long, probably go a bit mental actually.
Well i'm not actually playing live in any tribute band now. I'm only doing a covers band although I do have a dep gig next week for a Black Sabbath tribute band. I agree with the points you are putting across here.
 6.
That would probably be 'Hell bent Forever'? I didn't see them when they last played the Greyhound (never was a big JP fan tbh) but I'm reliably informed they packed the place so the demand seems to be there at least for the time being. Hope it comes together Tony. Some of the biggest crowds I've seen there in the last couple of years have been for rock tributes.
Hi KevB, yes I think you might be right it probably was them. Oh, and thanks, i'm hoping it comes together too! Rehearsals have been great fun, and it's been cool just learning the songs.
 7.
Without wishing to sound harsh, to be honest with you, I cannot see a Budgie/ Wishbone Ash/ Judas Priest tribute act packing in the punters. In fact, I am really struggling to think of three bands that would have less appeal to the average punter. A Judas Priest tribute act could potentially be amazing, but extensive leather gear would be essential, and everything would hinge on getting a good Rob Halford. I actually saw the real Judas Priest live in around 1980 and Rob Halford came on stage on a Harley clad entirely in tight black leather gear, with a little leather cap and wearing shades . The funny thing is, back in those days , no one thought this was in the least bit camp. It was just "heavy metal" . But then again, Freddie Mercury was straight back then and the world was a different place.
Quite true, but we wasn't doing it for the money. If it was just a money making exercise then we would have picked much bigger bands. Almost all the gigs I did was free entry anyway, apart from the Budgie fan club gig (Bandolier), or shared gigs. Again, the current Priest tribute i'm rehearsing with just loves playing the music. The amount of punters we got in at gigs was hit and miss TBH. You are right though, there's not as much interest in those bands as they once were, but a Priest tribute band played locally (free admission) and it was rammed apparently.......so there you go.
 8.
Three words I thought I'd never see in a sentence in 2014... ...."Budgie tribute band" Please don't take that as a slagging - my current band does "Breadfan" and I love every minute of it. Maybe the time is right to start up that Be Bop Deluxe trib....?
I did a Budgie tribute because I/we love the music, always have. Not lookalikes, or dressed like them etc.... just played their music for the love of it. I did that for about 5 years and had a great time for the most part. My current covers band also play Breadfan. Funnily enough, not at my suggestion! Be bop Deluxe huh? good band, i've met their original bass player, he seemed a nice bloke.
 9.
Tony. You need to support your Budgie band with the Judas Priest one and re-create a gig I saw in Nottingham, at the Sherwood rooms I think it was ,....who'd have thunk it ...Budgie supported by Judas priest......my head never stopped banging all night!
Ha, that would have been good fun! However the Budgie tribute band has finished. It's quite true that Budgie and Priest toured together in the early/mid 70's, even jamming together at gigs. I didn't see Budgie until 1978 myself. I've never seen Priest unfortunately. I would have liked to have seen them after Sad Wings came out like my mate did at the Albert Hall, Nottingham around 1976.
 10. I've played in a Wishbone Ash tribute, a Budgie tribute, and I am in the process of forming a Judas Priest tribute. I also dep in a Black Sabbath tribute. I also play in a rock/metal covers band and I write my own stuff which will probably never see the light of day. The thing is, i've never done any tributes for the money, it's purely because I enjoy playing the music. Also i'm 100% certain that it's made me a much better player. Another point is, (round here anyway) that pubs don't want to book bands playing their own material. Nobody is interested it seems, it's a shame but a fact. Pubs/clubs in general want to book cover bands and the odd tribute act. The fact is i've played some big venues doing tributes so there's clearly a market for it. At the end of the day, folk will vote with their feet and their wallets. If the band play to a decent standard, and play what folk wanna hear they will come to watch and hopefully enjoy themselves, which they seemingly do.
 11. Here is my black 1974 Fender Jazz bass just back from a set up. http://s935.photobucket.com/user/clarkpegasus4001/library/Fender%20Jazz%20Bass%201974?sort=3&page=1
 12.
just me so far then,
Nope, it's not just you, I hate jamming too! I find it dead boring.
 13.
Full, I control any louder/softer bits by playing dynamics.
Same here. The amp is always less than half way as it's loud anyway, and the Rick cuts through the mix easily.
 14.
I have same I run it into either a barefaced compact or barefaced S12t sounds great with either and if anyone wants a compact I got to sell mine
I have since sold the Tecamp rig. I'm now using a Epifani PS400 (Performance Series) head and 2 x 2x10 Epifani Epifunky cabs. The cab pictured below is exactly the same as mine except both of mine have steel round carry handles like Marshall type. 15.
I bought Tony's 'spare' Epifunky 210 cab, and he was incredibly helpful, even arranging for delivery on a day of my choice! Great cab, great guy to deal with. Thanks!
Thanks for your feedback Dave, I hope you enjoy the cab, as much as I love the two that I still have. It was a real pleasure to deal with you and i'm glad I could be of help regarding the delivery day. Many thanks for your purchase!
