Hi Anna welcome to Basschat

Welcome Mike There's one or two of us from Nottingham here.

Rotosound, 105 - 45 all the time.

I've heard plenty of dodgy stories about Music Ground over the years from very reliable sources. They should have got at least 3 years each. I always said they were crooks.

We wear what we want (rock band) so usually a T-shirt, jeans, trainers for me.

Our guitarist uses Digitech. He has two identical, (one as a back up) he loves it. I personally don't like multi effects much as I prefer old analog units, but that's just me. I'm sure you will find the sounds you are after with that unit. Good luck and have fun!
Fantastic band. Shame he is no longer with us. Last album was also very well finished even though Gary was already suffering from terminal cancer during the making. Thanks for posting this particular band. Fond memories of them in their early days. Dave
You are welcome. I never saw or met them but I do have the first album fully signed. It was sent to me from a friend in the USA and I treasure it, as Gary Strater is another fave bass player. In fact I lost out in a bid for one of his Ricky basses a while back on Ebay that was being sold by his estate. He's a tragic loss and a very underrated player IMO. -
Hi all. Tony sold me a 1974 (after a closer inspection) Fender Jazz. He came up from St. Albans for me to try it and check it out. I can whole-heartedly recommend him to anyone who wishes to deal with him. He's a lovely guy, honest and genuine. The bass is fantastic, the genuine article and it sounds lovely, plus it was exactly as described. Cheers Tony!
They're cool and all, but they don't have the classic precision look
A Squire Precision then? or a Japanese made one? Good luck with the search!

As I said in my previous post, try a Precision Lyte there's always some on ebay such as.......... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision-Bass-Lyte-Lightweight-Plays-Beautifully-Fantastic-Condition-/270916509394?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f13e1ded2 or this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision-Lyte-Bass-Japanese-1993-1994-Red-Burst-Flame-/260962293969?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3cc29098d1 I know these sound good cuz I watched a guy playing one locally a while back playing a tobacco sunburst one and he got a great sound from his.....Tony.

Delivering a bass in a large flightcase - cost and wrapping?
clarkpegasus4001 replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Have you tried UPS Clarky? I work for them. I will try to find out tonight (I work nights) approx shipping costs, insurance cover etc.... for you if you like? it's no bother for a fellow Basschatter. -
For not being able to cope with basses much over 8.5lbs? I find that 9lbs is my absolute maximum (partly due to back trouble and partly because I'm a weakling girl), which hasn't really been a problem in the past. But now that I'm looking for a Fender Precision I find that anything that I come across that's in my price range, in a colour that I like and with a maple fretboard is between 9-10 lbs, sometimes even more. Has this been a problem for anyone else, or should I just "man up"?
You are not a wussy at all. I've suffered with back and shoulder problems so I know it can be VERY painful indeed. Try using a wide strap or a cushioned one (or both) if the bass is a bit heavy. Or has been suggested, raise your bass up on the strap a bit. You can get light weight Fender Precisions anyway such as the Japanese made Precision Lyte amongst others.

I've always preferred lightweight Alder myself. The feel of the neck (and set up) matters more to me to be honest. There's nowt wrong with exotic timbers if that's your bag though.
actually, i love short scale, AND I don't want a back-breaking bass. I'm 15, and I'm not very tall.
I would suggest something like this: http://www.thomann.d...b6532c1c40d7b57 If money was no object i'd go for an old Gibson EB3. Loads of low end warmth and vintage tone.
There is no 'rule' for that i think, but if you want to create one, here is my experience. The tele made of ash is mostly heavier than alder, but this depends on what kind of ash is used. The 60s p i have held and own are really light, as well as the earlie 70 ones. Following the timeline in the 70s the basses get more heavy, but as i said before, there is no asolute rule about that. Against the myth, that a bass that weighs a ton has also a tone of a ton is not right. The best sounding basses i have heard are the light ones, They are more resonant. But to make my words senseless, i have heard also amazing basses which seem to be made of ironwood
Absolutely spot on, this is also my experience. Best bass i've ever played was a very light 1961 Precision.

FENDER 1974 all-original JAZZ BASS (authentic CLASSIC)
clarkpegasus4001 replied to cameet's topic in Basses For Sale
Wow, if this is all original then it's a good £500 under-priced, maybe even more. I've seen refin 4 bolt 70's Fenders priced at clost to £2K. Looks like a '73 to me, can't remember when the long G bridge saddle was removed?
Even i'm not 100% sure on that although I think it is original. However, this guy on Talkbass has a 73 precision and his has the long G by sounds of of, so it looks correct to me. I have underlined his quote Here: Quote: Originally Posted by JTE Other than the date-codes on the pots and the dates on the pickups, these items simply didn't change for a LOT of years. I don't understand why anyone would WANT to, let alone be able to, tell the difference between a '73 thumbrest, PUP cover, or bridge versus a '74, or a '76. Heck, most of those are so generic a current replacement would generally be indistinguishable. John I just got a 73 P and have been doing some investigating on the parts used that year that differ from later years. First thing is the thumbrest. Its not black like the one used in later years, its a very dark brown/maroon color. On the P basses, their pickup and bridge covers have more angular bends than later years as well. I dont know if its the same for Jazz basses though. ****The bridge has the long g screw, so a reissue bridge or later 70's bridge isn't exactly "correct"***** Also if you're looking for a pickguard, i believe 73 was the last year they had celluloid tortoise shell. My P-bass has a celluloid guard that's shrunk over the years and developed a tiny crack. I will say that it is still the nicest looking tort I've seen, even though its got plenty of wear. Good luck with your search. Ebay seems to be your best bet. I myself only need a thumbrest, pickup and bridge cover, and possible a case. Everything else on mine is all original. Last edited by thisSNsucks : 01-20-2011 at 09:59 AM. -
FENDER 1974 all-original JAZZ BASS (authentic CLASSIC)

And here is another....... http://www.normansra...9&cat=45&page=1 I'm pretty sure you can't always authenticate a basses age, based on where the thumb rest is. Tony (cameet) is correct about the neck date it is from 1972 and is typical of Fender using older parts. -

Sort of Parker Fly-ish, but a bit too weird for me.
