1. 99% sure they are on mine. Will get it out later to be 100% sure
2. I'm all for it. Surely I can't be the only bassist who also doubles up on Stylophone Disclaimer Apologies to anyone under 45 who has absolutely no idea what a Stylophone is.
3. Absolutely stunning and I am so tempted but so uncertain about the next few months wage. What do I do
4. Tried my utmost to swop shifts but we have spent a small fortune on a promotional weekend so it's all hands to the pumps and no bassbash for me that weekend Have a brilliant time everyone and hope to make it to the next one Tony
5. Sunday night depping gig with Funkifive ( some of my ex band mates from SOUL7 ) so knew most of the stuff without needing to rehearse at the Duke of Leeds at New Mill near Holmfirth ( last of the summer wine country ) Nice chilled out gig with a reasonably receptive crowd and it was so nice to be a "passenger" in set up and strip down instead of rushing about for an hour to sort PA, lights, sound etc
6. Friday night at the Cross Keys at Morley and it was the last gig with our guitarist and we had a cracking night with two hour long sets finished off with about six or so function songs ( Shout, Do You Love Me, Twist and Shout etc ) with the audience utilising chairs and tables etc for dancing Belting gig at a brilliant venue
7.
I love the Duck and Drake - proper pub and a great venue.
Yes, it's a great place to play with a lovely load in and decent stage ( for a four piece ) and the audience always seems to be in to the music.
8. Duck and Drake in Leeds last night and we played well and had a decent sized crowd who seemed to really enjoy it. According to legend Mark Knopfler used to play it regularly when he worked at the Yorkshire Post in Leeds. Last gig next week with our guitarist who is moving on ( to do what I am not really sure ) but we have been very lucky and have been approached by an awesome local legend ( at rehearsal last week he was doubling up on keyboards and lead/ryhthm at the same time !! ) who will take us up several notches when we start gigging with him the week after. Should be fun
9. Hi and welcome to the forum. Its packed with brilliant advice and humour What church do you play at ??
10.
My band Delirium are playing Montey's Rock Cafe in Harrogate on Thursday 18th February from 9pm, most drinks are 2-4-1 all night. Songs by: AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Audioslave, Black Sabbath, Foo Fighters, Greenday, Guns'n'Roses, Hoobastank, Hundred Reasons, Iron Maiden, Jet, Kings Of Leon, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Moore/Lynott, Nickelback, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Puddle of Mudd, Rainbow, Skid Row, Stone Temple Pilots, System of a Down, the Cult, the Darkness, Van Halen, Whitesnake. I hardly ever play in Harrogate so any support would be most welcome! Jon
Have a great gig Jon and thanks for coming last night. Sounds like a nice and varied set list. I wll try to get over but will probably try for a more local to me Friday or Saturday gig. We are back in Harrogate next Thursday at the Alexandra ( I think ) and apparently it's another good venue. We called round the Blues Bar in the break and it was packed to the roof with Chantelle playing. Tony PS Thanks fror the review on the ROTN site
11. That looks a decent list I was playing in a trio last year and the songs we tried with a little finesse just didn't work in a noisy pub My thoughts would be to keep them powerful and fast ( ish ) to keep things moving
12. Bigger house ?? Impractical probably but it would work
13. It's even inspired me to have a go as it is a song I have purposefully ignored previously and left it on the "too difficult to even contemplate" shelf ( it's a big shelf )
14. Brilliant, loved the show at the time and when they did the updated one about the bridge I thought it was even better
15. Many thanks for the response so far and very pleased to have prompted some basschat members to think about running such an adventure It would be very nice if something could be arranged. I am certain that there would be plenty of bassists on the site who would be interested in a weekend or so of playing, learning, socialising etc Looking forward to hearing more
16. Just been having a bit of a wild idea and wondered if anyone knows of a place that does something like a "summer school" camp for bass. Thinking down the lines of somewhere for a long weekend or week when all you do is eat, sleep, drink and play bass. I always seem to be playing what I need to for the band but a few days away learning things from different genres etc could be great fun and a brilliant way to make some more bass playing friendships. Anyone know of somewhere that this happens ??
17. Hi Sue Welcome to basschat I am sure you will enjoy the forum and find numerous threads that are informative, amusing and quite often both Tony
18.
Actually I can see more probs than I could write down. Put him through the PA!
+1 to this I just take one 15" cab now for my bass set up but it's almost only in use as a monitor for me as most goes through the pa so assuming the pa will take it just mic up the drums and put them through the pa
19. Just introduced the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" in to the set, very easy to play and always goes down well
20. Last Saturday at the Old Pack Horse in Cleckheaton and it was not looking good at 6.30 pm with heavy snow coming down and as the pub is in the process of changing hands they had done no publicity at all ( not even put the posters up I took them two weeks previously !! ) I was half expecting a complete washout ( and to be honest I wouldn't have blamed anyone for not going out that night ) but with ten minutes before the first set the pub started filling up with loads of friends and family I had invited and we ended up having a brilliant night. Finished with Slades Merry Xmas Everybody which went down a storm
21. Friday night was the Cross Keys in Morley and after a literally empty pub sound check things were not looking too good but people started drifting in and by the start of the first set we had a reasonable crowd to play to considering the horrendous weather outside. We had a young local lad called Dylan playing a few numbers as support and he is going to be a star of the future. He has now "opened" for us a few times locally and I would definitely recommend it as he brings lots of friends and family with some staying just for our first set and others all night so it's good to help the bar takings as well. Second set and things livened up more and by the time midnight came and we were on the first encore the landlady requested "Do You Love Me" from Dirty Dancing ( me and the singer have played the pub in previous band Soul7 and always finished with this ) we duly obliged and the place went crazy so we continued the theme with Twist and Shout, Lulu's Shout, Merry Xmas Everybody and then finished on Living on a Prayer and Paradise City !! Great pub and brilliant start to our three part Xmas weekend gig schedule !!
22. We do Living on a Prayer and You Give Love a Bad Name and they go down really well ( we also have a sexy female singer )
23.
I laughed my head off at a friend's status on Facebook last night. He was arguing about why such an amazing music icon should be on such a show that idolises karaoke and non-originality (his words not mine) when a young girl he obviously knows suddenly wrote: "Karaoke? Well Macca is no better. He got up and sang a Guns 'N' Roses song". At first I thought it was sarcasm, until I read her responses when people tried to correct her. Classic! EDIT: Sorry corrected it to Guns 'N' Roses, rather than "and". I'm just not down with it!
PMSL
24. Bugger, had to sit through it all night then nipped out for ten mins to collect oldest daughter from a party and missed Paul McCartney
25. Friday night and the Bold Privateer in Wrose near Bradford A few steps from the car park to carry the gear up but a nice set up area sectioned off from the audience which is always nice Very receptive audience that stayed all night and the new songs seem to be flowing better now and went down well Looking forward to next weekend when we have three pub gigs ( Fri, Sat, Sun ) so quietly confident that we will be playing to packed out pubs with audiences really getting in to the xmas spirit
