1. My new rock band have played a couple of gigs using my function bands mixer amp etc but time has come to purchase our own and I was just about to purchase a second hand mixer amp when the singer informs me that she has a Yamaha MG16/6FX mixer from a previous band so we have decided to add a power amp that will give us the opportunity to "grow in to" when we can eventually afford higher power speakers etc We have a budget that is around £200 to £300 and would appreciate some advice as to what we should be looking for ( and what to avoid etc ) many thanks
2. Another wedding gig last night, same band and same set but hard work to get them up and when they were up most wanted to be sat down but the singer worked very hard and the dance floor was full in the second set. You just never know what sort of audience it will be !!
3. Went to check my Fender this morning and very disappointed to not find a 1963 priceless loft in it, not sure I quite understand this game yet but happy to become a member.
4. Last night was a wedding gig with my function band and it was a cracker. Everything ran over as seems to be the norm for weddings but we had time to sit and chill out and decided on a ten o'clock start one long set. We were less than 20 seconds into our first song, Valerie, and the dance floor was rammed and stayed that way until we played our last note at about 12.15 !! Brilliant gig with superb "up for it" guests Another wedding tonight so hoping for more of the same PS We also broke our "amount received" by a £100 so good news all round
5. Hi If no one has beat me to it I will take it for £80 posted up to sunny West Yorkshire please Thanks Tony
6. Sunday night was second gig with new band EMPRESS at the Cross keys in Morley near Leeds The pub is a great live venue with a recently built spacious stage area and the difference in confidence and playing etc from our first gig was immense. It was an early ( 6.30 ) start and as the pub are encouraging families to come along I took my girls ( 7, 9, 12 ). Half way through Muse's reasonably bass intense Plug In Baby my 9 year old walked on stage with with a bag of recently acquired sweets indicating for me to take one. She stood there quite perplexed as I tried to tell her that "no, dad didn't want one", a minute or so later she left the stage very puzzled as this was the only time in her life she has witnessed her dad refusing food !! Two weddings this weekend with SOUL7 bring it on !!
7. Not quite last night but last Saturday at the Barge in Brighouse with my new band EMPRESS. Only formed 6 weeks ago with the singer from my function band and a couple of other guys who I had never met before. The first rehearsal went so well that we took a gig offer that night giving us 6 weeks to learn two sets and encores ( 26 songs ) Well we managed to pull it off with not too many mistakes but I really felt out of the comfort zone of the function band ( four years and about 130 gigs together ) but that is the reason I did it as I was getting stale. We have our second gig this Sunday with a rehearsal planned for later today so hopefully we can make some improvements Big thanks to Jon from Angel of Sin ( Adrenochrome on here ) for coming along and supporting us
8. I have shyed away from this song but I have been looking for a little "project" song that would make me work hard so I am going to give it a go with the assistance of the notation provided....many thanks
9. Great thread, please keep sending in the examples
10. Decided to purchase, anyone have one they want to move on ??
11. Excellent, thanks very much I will go put my bid in on ebay now ( unless anyone on here has one for sale of course ) Tony
12. Hi, I have the Behringer Bass V Amp Pro that I just essentially use as a tuner but two of my bands have new songs that need more than a straight forward bass sound and rather than go out and buy stomp boxes for chorus, flanger etc I was looking for a foot controller to move between sounds mid song. Does the FCB1010 do this ?? It keeps mentioning midi all the time in the manual and that is making me think it can't be just used to switch between the different pre-sets or is it me reading too much in to it Many thanks Tony UPDATE Decided to purchase one. Anyone got one for sale ??
13.
I want you back - Jackson 5 Z x
We play this every gig and I love it Last one for me was No Doubt's Don't Speak which isn't as difficult as I thought it was the first time I listened to it.
14. Had a similar experience playing my Yamaha TRB for years then decided on a whim to buy a Geddy Lee Jazz and wow it's so much easier and i love playing it. The Yamaha in comparison has strings on that seem very thick combined with a very high action so I suppose when I re-string and sort the action it will be easier but it took a new bass for me to see how bad the other was set up.
15. With our first gig in only six weeks we need a name !! Four piece with a female vocalist playing rock covers ( predominantly originally done by female vocalists ) but we are looking towards weddings etc by summer so we need to choose wisely Any ideas ??
16. Sounds like fun and with such a wide repertoire to choose from their is plenty of excellent songs available, good luck with the band Tony
17. My soul/funk function band also seems to be going through a bit of a bad patch but the last gig we did was awesome and made us realise what a waste it would be to lose it all. I am doing new projects now to get my "new music" fix but think we will keep doing two or three a month with SOUL7 as it is great fun.
18. Just heard from the singer and she has booked us a gig on Sat May the 2nd so we have 6 weeks from first meeting to first gig !! looks like I am going to be busy
19. Had an email from a local band whose bassist is moving away so they are looking for a replacement for a covers band playing predominantly Wishbone Ash ( couple of gigs a month ) I wish I was available as I love WA songs but three bands at the moment and 60 hours a week at work so not really any more time Anyone interested and I will put you in touch I believe they are quite a mature band and from what I have heard they sound superb Tony
20. It was absolutely cracking and very confident that we will be gigging soon !!
21. Hi Will, How does a wishbone ash covers band in Otley sound ?? I had an email today about it but I am already in 3 bands and think a 4th might be too much. They sound like a friendly bunch and playing wishbone songs sounds great to me with plenty decent bass lines to play ( wishbone were doing the twin lead guitar set up years before lizzy etc ) Let me know and I will forward you the details Regards Tony
22. The singer from my function band wants to form a rock band so we have our first rehearsal tonight with a drummer and guitarist we have yet to meet so could be a fun ( or rubbish ) night Had to spend the last week or so watching youtube vids of scantily clad ladies ( Pink, Skunk Anansie, Cheryl Crowe etc ) to learn the set so could have been worse Need to get back to practising and will let you know how it goes
23. Used the BA115 and BA210 for over two years and they have been excellent cabs and awesome value for money with plenty of volume available ( must admit though that i am looking forward to being able to upgrade to something lighter )
24. Saturday night we played at one of our regular venues for my 50th birthday to a packed out pub full of friends, relatives, work colleagues and pub regulars. First set was played much earlier than normal at about 8.45 allowing time for my trio to play live for the first time. I was very unsure about our ability to pull it off and with the song choices but I had nothing to fear as we really rocked and had the whole pub buzzing with songs from the Foo Fighters through to Joe Jackson. Loads of great feedback so looking forward to the first full gig. Second set with the function band was very chilled with loads of dancers and guests musicians playing through till midnight. Great gig and really wish I had bothered to video it.
25. This is more of a "How was your gig (s) last weekend" as life has been hectic since going back to work on Monday. Saturday night was one of our regular pubs, the Barge in Brighouse and it was a cracker with a very lively audience dancing the night away from the first bars of the first set through to midnight. Sunday night was a wedding at Berties Banqueting suite in Elland which is a very nice venue for weddings and functions with a large stage area. On arrival we were met by a professional videographer who had been commissioned by the management to make a video to feature on the website and would it be ok to film us. Sensing a nice opportunity for potential clients to see us when visiting their website we quickly agreed so he spent the first four songs taking video footage on stage with us !! Looking forward to seeing the results. Another absolutely cracking gig finishing with seven encores !!
