Bass Player Required for North West based Rock Band
tonybassplayer replied to guitarman8's topic in Bassists Wanted
Hi Paul, pretty sure you have arrived at the right place to find the person you need. Some cracking bassists on here and plenty damn fine chaps too ( and chapesses too ) -
Basschatters and their gear in Bass Guitar Magazine
tonybassplayer replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
That's the one. So little live video footage of Slade around. Guess in that respect they were a little too early. -
On me and Debs bucket list and gutted when we couldn't get tickets but not quite as bothered now with the bad weather situation. Going to try again for next year. Plan was to hire a motorhome for a week and make it part of the holiday Hardly anybody on the bill I am really bothered about seeing but think its worth doing once in a lifetime ( still getting over the knebworth zeppelin gig in the mid seventies and only getting one junction up the motorway before sleeping in the car lol )

Cheers Stu, great story and looks an amazing bass. I was just imagining that Jim Lea growling bass when he used to play his bass solo as I was reading the story -
Bugger! My main bass had a full page piece in "Guitarist" 13 years ago; which Jimmy Lea saw, signed a copy & sent it to me - which was nice. Nothing else of note since then.
Any chance of seeing a copy of the mag ? Love anything to do with Jim Lea -
Never heard that phrase before. What exactly is ringing out the room ?? Guess it's sending different signals to see where the limits are but like I said that's just a guess. Intrigued.

Another amp, my god how many does the man need lol And he only lives six doors away down the street !!

Slightly bemused at some of the comments on here regarding the actual band. I grew up with them and on the early albums were many cracking rock songs. The next few were amazing blends of rock, pop and ambitious and at the time very unique adventurous songs which included many world wide hit singles. They then became, at the time, the biggest band in the world selling millions of albums and singles and performing live to literally millions around the world. I saw many of those concerts and there was no one live to touch their shows in those days. Then just when everyone thought they were yesterday's news along came Live Aid and the slot they did is legendary. All four wrote some amazing songs that have all stood the test of time. I sometimes wonder what a band has to do to impress some people !!

This is a good place to start, excellent information and I think many of us have invested in the sonic port already. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/230948-ios-for-the-gigging-bassist/page__fromsearch__1

Not playing live much myself at the moment so getting the chance to see more live music and the noise level ranges from too loud to stupidly loud !! Saw a band last year in a pub where the bassist had an ampeg 8 by 10 cab and the guitarist a full " Ritchie Blackmore" sized Marshall stack !! Literally nearly knocked me over when they hit the first bar of the first song. It's starting to put me off going to live music venues rather than attracting me to them !! Rant over, my apologies.

Used to play it in my old band and always loved playing it. A sure fire audience winner as well. Being saying for a couple of years now that one day Dire Straits will hop on the " reunion tour" bandwagon and I would certainly be up for a few hours of nostalgia. Listened to Alchemy at the weekend, cracking live album.

Yes he got them both up to sing some backing vocals and they did very well Is it Liz from Motus ? -
So what's the bass angle? Who's on bass? Were they good?
Was an American guy I believe. Nothing too fancy but every note just right and good backing vocals. Just what you need from a good bassist. -
Long story short, my mate's 60th birthday treat last night from me and Debs was to see Francis Dunnery at the Wardrobe in Leeds. He's quite in to It Bites and she likes his solo stuff. I have never heard any of it but what a cracking gig. Brilliant songs played superbly with a wide variation and very entertaining banter in between with a great rapport with the audience Payed about £75 for three tickets and was the best value for money gig wise I think I have ever spent Not seen or heard of him ?? Go see him. A true talent and seems like a very nice bloke. Well recommended.
No. It's one of those things that sounds like it shouldn't work but does. I have a couple in my house. They plug into to mains sockets and actually use the mains wiring to send your connection that way. It means everything is wired (which I prefer to wireless), but without having to have loads of cabling round the house. The boxes have Cat5 on the end to connect your devices.
I see. This may help us though to hard wire up to our skybox. Must look in to this soon.

Anyone use any of the stomp box bass drum gadgets ?
tonybassplayer replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
nowadays for band stuff our banjolele player uses just the 'brain' and kick drum from a Roland leccy drum kit and it sounds huge!
I had a Roland TD3 set up about a year ago and had that idea with another kick pedal plugged in to the snare socket but never thought I would use it so sold it :-( -
Starting doing a few covers and originals with a singer/guitarist recently and we are looking to add a little percussion and I am quite impressed by the stomp box drums ( which seems to be the generic name for all bits of wood etc that you tap with your feet ) that seem to be about. Anyone use one of them currently or previously ? Tony

Lovely stuff Mr Tayste. Out rehearsing tonight but looking forward to reading those later.

Has anyone posted their own personal favourite settings on the Jamup site ?? If so if wonder if it is possible to set up something like a "user group" to share sounds ?? Whilst it's fun to play around with the sounds it would also be good to have a group of fellow basschatters suggesting their recommendations.

Pretty sure it has to go in to an amp ( or the amp part of a combi ) prior to a cab.

Good thread this. Bought a sonic port and downloaded software recently and this is helping on the practical application side Any suggestions as to a good value for money mic stand holder for an iPad ?
-
Nearly bought a used one for £1000 a few years ago but sensed ( correctly ) work was a little wobbly. One day I will resolve not making that purchase. They all just look stunning to me.
