I really can't get past the scratchy sound.
Have you exhausted all avenues regarding your technique and EQ ?

Sad news alright. Here's wishing you well, Victor.

Welcome...from a fellow Dubliner.
Don't worry about it
+1. Good (or great...) players don't have a monopoly on owning nice basses. Just enjoy playing your bass your way and don't be letting such trivial matters upset or embarrass you.

Bass Player Competence Study - for my PhD research
Coilte replied to EvilSmile's topic in General Discussion
I can't even open the link.
Managed to open the link after five attempts. Now I can't get past the 1st question, just like TheGreek. -
Bass Player Competence Study - for my PhD research
I tried but I wasn't able to get past the first question
I can't even open the link. -
How do you justify having more equipment than you actually need?
Why the need to justify, if you want...and can afford it ?
I've had conversations (PM's) with several TB members from the US, South America and Hong Kong. I have never been in a fight with anyone on TB. My experience is that everyone I've talked to and posted with has been a regular, helpful, normal guy
Got to say that this has been my experience also. You'll always get ***holes on ALL forums and I think it's unfair to tar the whole of TB with the one brush.
Yet another bassist proving Ashdowns aren`t woolly.
I was thinking the same thing myself.
I remember teaching the guitarist how to play a song in my last band. This was after he had spent about 40 minutes setting up his new pedal board. It took 10 minutes to learn the song at home. Do your homework!
Yep...sounds familiar.

I quit two bands for the one reason...people thinking that the rehearsal room was for learning the material. A bit frustrating when I have done my home work. In another band people simply did not give a damn. If they turned up at all for a rehearsal...it was late. Life's too short for this sort of thing.
I love off topic on here but only use TB for bass info (I dont even know if they have an off topic) . I find it hard enough to be taken as meant by fellow countrymen , so Im bound to get into trouble if I go OT overseas.
Being from neither country, I find I can adjust to the idiosyncrasies of both forums. Each has it's place.
TB is fine for me, plenty of good chaps and lasses over there who know their stuff.
+1. I'm quite happy to frequent both forums.
and moved my thumb to the ringfinger and it seems to be a lot better. Thanks everyone.
Let the thumb go to where it naturally wants.. or needs.. to go. Even with it behind the ring finger, the CT is narrowed. It's not a sin. .(though I'm sure some will disagree..) to point it towards the head stock.
You should be careful with any overly repetitious finger-per-fret exercise down on the lower frets as they can be quite a stretch.
I agree. OP...use the ring and little finger together and/or use the thumb as a pivot to move the whole hand instead of stretching. I would also advise against having the thumb level with the middle finger. This constricts the carpel tunnel, through which the tendons that move the fingers pass. This in turn can lead to all sorts of injury problems over time. Keep the thumb in the neutral position. Check out this clip ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRkSsapYYsA
DR Sunbeams
+1. Don't know how they compare to the Fenders, but great strings IMO.
Sometimes, deleting the link and then pasting again without the 's' during an edit works
Thanks. I'll try to remember that. I am long enough posting, that I should know. Does not seem to be much interest in Mr Tyner anyway.

Thanks Lowdown. Tried editing my post and left out the "s" as TheGeek suggested. Did not seem to work though.
Remove the "s" in the "https" part of the address..
Thank you.

Was chilling out listening to this album earlier. Had not played it in a long time and had forgotten just how nice an album it is. The bassist is John Lee. You don't often hear electric bass on albums such as this. Come to think of it, you don't hear much about Lee either. He wrote this track. Sorry..cant remember how to embed... I have two G&L SB2's. I think I am a rare breed in that I like flats and rounds in equal measure, so I have one bass strung with flats (the one in my avatar) and the other with rounds. I love the SB2 tone with both types of strings, so I alternate as desired. It's definitely the SB2 for me.
The absolutely key thing, though, which is an instant win, is A-framing. Works immediately and works every time.
I have always been keen to physically look after myself both generally and especially while playing the bass. I have seen a lot of tips/advise on the internet, but have never come across the above excellent advice. Thank you.
Yeah Jack. Curse you and your free invaluable advice!
I acknowledged that advice in post number 6.

Great clips Jack ! The reason I posted, is that I think people don't pay enough attention to these things....often until it's too late and they end up having to pay for the advice by attending sessions with a physiotherapist. Prevention is better than cure !!!
